Chapter 2
The beginning of term began rapidly approaching, bringing all the new students and their families to King's Cross Station, platform 9 3/4.
Ted, his brother Deacon, and Captain Logan were all there, ready to meet up with Bill and his family. Ted had his large suitcase with his tawny owl, named Keanu, in a cage, strapped to the luggage cart.
Deacon was starting his first year, as well as Ted entering his fifth. That meant that Ted would be taking his O.W.L.S.
He wasn't looking forward to the responsibility, but he was looking forward to doing it all with his friends.
Almost on cue, just like every year, there was a young wizard standing there--muggleborn, no doubt-- clutching his ticket to Platform 9 3/4, looking terrified at the people around him.
"Hey little dude," he said kindly. "First year?"
"Yeah," he said awkwardly. "Gordie Lachance. Can you show me where Platform 9 3/4 is?"
He was carrying a heavy suitcase with him, as well as struggling with his owl in a cage, which was attracting a lot of attention from Muggles around him.
"My parents didn't bother taking me. It's like I don't exist," he said, downcast. Ted felt bad for the kid and took his suitcase from him.
"Hey, dude, it's okay. Hogwarts is a great place. Cmon, I'll take you to the platform. You're gonna love this." Ted put his hand on Gordie's shoulder.
Ted walked with his family and Gordie to the barrier between platforms 9 and 10.
"Now, you gotta take it at a run, like this, otherwise you might freak out and you won't get through," Ted instructed, putting an arm around Gordie and clasping the handle of his luggage cart. They both began to run at the brick wall.
Gordie made a noise of discontent before they sailed easily through the wall and into a new platform.
Ted broke away from the boy and grinned down at him.
"See? Nothing to it!" Ted grinned, throwing his arms in the air. Gordie panted nervously.
"Woah.... thanks, thanks a lot,"
"No problem, dude! Here, I'll help you get your stuff on the train!" Ted picked up Gordie's suitcase, using the moment that his dad was occupied with Deacon to slip away onto the train.
They scoured the train cars, looking for an empty spot. There was one available with a few first or second years.
"This good?" Ted asked. Gordie shrugged.
"Fine by me. Thanks. What's your name?"
"I'm Ted 'Theodore' Logan. I'm in Hufflepuff, so I hope you join me and my friend Bill," Ted nudged him a little and watched him sit down with a fond smile, remembering his first year.
"Hey!" A kid in the cart was saying. "Is it your first year too? Wow, that's cool. People call me Chunk, what's your name?"
"Gordie, Gordie Lachance," he smiled shyly.
"Cool, nice to meet ya! This is Chris Chambers, and this is Mikey, Mikey Walsh. You're gonna love Hogwarts, it's a lot of fun, or that's what I've heard. See, I was talking to my dad--"
Ted chuckled to himself as he went back to get his stuff and find his friends. He hoped Deacon would be able to make friends quickly. He found Bill easily, and they'd been friends ever since.
"We should've enrolled you in Durmstrang," Captain Logan was saying to Ted as students bustled by. Ted grimaced. On today of all days, his dad still had to act like this.
"Yeah, I know, dad," Ted huffed. "See you at Christmas."
Deacon hugged his dad, while Ted awkwardly half-hugged him. He never had a good relationship with his dad, what with everything he wanted to change about Ted.
Ted expected Deacon to linger on him and try to sit with him, but much to his surprise, Deacon picked up his toad and ran off through the train compartment to find his own friends. Last he was able to see of his little brother's dark hair, he was off talking to a second year, Mouth, as well as the first year he had seen in Diagon Alley, Vern.
Ted shrugged and headed off to his own cart, where Bill was saving him a spot.
Although Hogwarts train cars predominantly held four people at a time, the group insisted on fitting more inside, with the addition of Ricky Coogin, a Slytherin sixth-year that Ted only sort of knew.
He was leaned up against the window of the car, looking out with a bit of a bored expression on his face. He reminded Ted a lot of Bill, but with more of a knack for trouble, and a bit testier. Also, with black hair.
Across from Ricky was Marty McFly, who grinned and waved at Ted as he came in. He was already getting his tie in order, which Ted never did until they were pulling up to Hogwarts.
Bill was there as well, signaling Ted to sit. Ted took a seat across from Ponyboy, squeezing in next to Bill. Ricky didn't say much, but he did give a sideways glance at Bill, who was pressed up against him too much for his liking. He flicked his wand idly, but didn't move.
"So guys, check this out!" Marty said in a hush-hush sort of way. Even Ricky Coogin perked up at the prospect of secrets. Everyone leaned in, and Marty pulled a small golden contraption from within his robes.
"Look what Doc Brown got me," Marty was proud. He want bragging, just excited out of his wits.
"Whoaaah," Bill breathed, "...what is it?"
Marty scooted closer, so that everyone's knees were touching.
"It's called a time turner. Doc had to go to the Ministry to clear it, but he gave it to me to try out this year!"
"Excellent!" Ted commented, grin on his face. He could already see adventures unfolding, especially if Ferris ever found out.
Speaking if Ferris, the Slytherin Prefect knocked on the glass door and showed his new badge to his friends inside. The others waved, and Ferris grinned at them, continuing on, followed soon after by a couple of Ravenclaws he hung out with, Neo Anderson, Steve Randle, and Samantha Smith.
It was surprising to see Neo Anderson out and about, considering he usually kept to himself. He was a bit socially awkward, yet held that curious air to him that made Ted long to be his friend and open him up a bit. He would often see him in class, disconnected. He didn't have all that many friends, but he was mysterious and very talented.
Ted knew Ferris wasn't going to sit with them, and it didn't bug him too much.
The train was set into motion soon after, and that meant the snack cart came by.
All throughout the train, the students were pooling their galleons, including the first years, who were looking in awe at the treats available.
Deacon and his new friends, Vern, Mouth, and Sam Emerson had all bought more pumpkin pasties than they could ever eat in their life. Gordie, Chris, Chunk, and Mikey were trading Chocolate Frog cards down in their compartment.
The Lost Boys took up a few cars to themselves, not stirring up trouble, but not behaving, either. That group in itself just made a lot of noise, and something was usually exploding.
David, Marko, Paul, and Dwayne had a car to themselves, thinking up elaborate schemes to try on the new first years.
Ace Merrill, Dallas Winston, Michael Emerson, and Two-Bit Matthews were in the car next door, scheming and hoarding far too many Chocolate Frogs. Michael Emerson and Two-BitMatthews weren't entirely trouble, but they weren't the good kids, either. As far as anyone was concerned, David was a bad influence, and was slowly getting all the Slytherins under his wing.
About halfway through the (admittedly cramped) ride to Hogwarts, two sixth years knocked on the car door and held up Chocolate Frog cards.
"Wanna trade?" asked the dark haired one, opening the door. "My name's Wayne Campbell, this is my friend Garth Algar."
Bill and Ted were familiar with them. Garth was in their house. They talked a few times. Wayne was one of those faces that they recognized, but didn't really befriend. He seemed nice, though. They liked the same music and wanted to get famous. Why hadn't they talked much before?
Pony held up his cards.
"Sure thing. What do you have?"
Wayne and Garth made a few trades before Ricky acknowledged them, then finally fished in the pocket of his robes and withdrew a card of his own.
"Bowman Wright, inventor of the Golden Snitch. What'cha got in return?" He flashed a cocky yet charming grin in their direction.
Wayne and Garth looked at each other with shock and determination, digging through their collection together.
"Newt Scamander," Garth finally said, pulling the card out. Ricky took it out and inspected it. He raised an eyebrow, then gave a curt nod to the two of them.
"Pleasure doing business with you,"
"Thanks, man," Wayne grinned.
Ricky gave him a thumbs up, and the groups parted ways. Ricky then leaned against the window and rested until they arrived.
Disgruntled, cramped, hungry, but excited, the train finally pulled up to Hogwarts, and Bill jostled Ted awake from off his shoulder, where he'd been sleeping for about 20 minutes.
"Dude. Look! We're here!"
"We're home, dudes...,"
