[ Justin's POV: ]
The bell rang, signaling class was finally over and, seeing as it was Friday last period, everyone gathered their books and practically sprinted out of the room without another word.
“Kirsty!” I called out, swinging my bag over my shoulder and running towards Kirsty, making her stop and turn around.
“What?” she asked in annoyance.
“Want to go grab a burger and milkshake with me?” I asked, adjusting my book-bag strap within my shoulder.
She paused to think about it before answering me, “No, I don’t think I’m hungry. Thanks anyway.”
“Come on-”
“-I said no thanks,” she finished sternly before turning around and walking away, probably to find her best friend, Carla.
I let out a frustrated sigh, stomping one foot on the ground before feeling a hand touch my shoulder. I turned around to see Ryan staring at me.
“Did you ask her out again?” he asked.
I slowly nodded.
“Did she reject you.. Again?”
I nodded once more.
“Bro, just give up already. The girl’s too busy with work and outside activities and she’s not looking for a relationship. It’s not worth chasing after her for this long, she’s probably annoyed with you,” he sighed.
“I don’t understand why she doesn’t give me a chance. I swear, I won’t break her heart,” I mumbled.
“She’s too stubborn to listen,” he shook his head, “Just stop trying.”
“I can’t,” I whispered, but of course, Ryan heard it.
“Yes you can. This is just a stupid crush. You’ll get over it,” he said, patting my back. “Now let’s go.”
“Where are we going?”
“To Disney World,” he said sarcastically.
“No way, can we actually?!” my eyes lit up, and then I rolled my eyes to show him I was also being sarcastic. He just sighed and began walking towards his car. I followed right behind him, still confused as to where exactly he was planning to take me. “Ryan,” I groaned, as I took my seat on the passenger side, “You know I hate surprises, bro. Just tell me where we’re going.”
“Dude, you need to chill,” he chuckled.
“But-”
“-Justin, I swear, I will rip your dick off,” he joked, turning on the ignition. My mouth froze in place and I closed it after a while so that my lips were forming a thin line.
“Remind me why you’re my best friend again?” I teased.
“Because I’m just too darn irresistible,” he praised himself. I rolled my eyes and lost the interest of asking where we were going again, since I had a feeling there was no point anymore. He just wouldn’t tell me.
Instead, I got comfortable on my seat, buckling my seatbelt and resting my arm on the armrest of the car door. I began having a million thoughts at once, and all of them were about Kirsty. I know she’s the type of girl who focused more on her schoolwork and sports, claiming she doesn’t have time for a boyfriend, seeing as practically every guy in the school wants her. I think that, by now, she probably finds me a little annoying. I mean, I only asked her out about seventy-billion times. That’s not too much, is it?
But even yet, no matter how hard I try, she still wouldn’t even go on a date with me. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Maybe I seem to obsessed, but I’m really not. I just really like her, and I think I could be good for her. She should just take a chance, or she’ll never, ever know.
I began to shake the thoughts away and, when I looked out the window, I realized Ryan was driving us past a very familiar path. Maybe a little too familiar.
“You shit, you’re just driving me home,” I rolled my eyes, “You could’ve just told me and not leave me in suspense.”
“I may be driving towards your house, but it doesn’t mean I’m dropping you off there,” he retaliated.
“Then where are you taking me?”
“No use in asking, bro,” he shook his head and bit his lip to hold back his laugh. I shot him a frown, crossing my arms and leaning back on the chair.
“I hate you.”
“Love you too,” he winked, and I instantly realized what everyone meant when they said he and I had a strong bromance. ‘Cause it’s true— Ryan and I are pretty close.
After another few moments of silence, the car came to a halt and we were parked right outside my house. I looked out the window and blinked several times just in case I was hallucinating or something. When I realized my house was really there, I slowly turned towards Ryan, gritting my teeth.
“You’re such a liar,” I snorted.
“No, I’m not,” he smirked and, suddenly, the car door in the back opened and my mom sat inside. My eyes widened in complete bewilderment as I turned around to face her.
“Mom?!” I asked, beginning to get way too confused.
“Hey sweetheart,” she smiled at me. I couldn’t help but smile back.
“How was the first day on your new job?” I questioned, interested to see if she finally got a job she enjoyed.
“It was ah-mazing! I met this woman, Nicole, who was extremely nice and we instantly bonded. She likes so many things I like and we’re practically twins! We got along so well that she invited me over for dinner. She said that her sister’s kids were also coming over but agreed that it was fine to let me come,” she explained, and everything clicked. I’m assuming Ryan’s our ride to this woman’s house.
“And why do I have to go?” I mumbled.
“Because I mentioned I had a son and she really wants to meet you. She thinks you’ll get along with the teens over there anyway.”
“And Ryan..?”
“I asked him if he could give us a ride. He can actually stay too, but he told me he couldn’t,” she shrugged, and my eyes traveled to meet Ryan’s.
“Why not, bro?” I asked him.
“My parents are taking my sister and I to my uncle’s birthday party,” he explained with a sigh, “I can’t really miss it, you know.”
“But I don’t want you to leave me alone with… With… Whoever the fuck is going to be over there,” I whined.
“Justin!” mom scolded, “watch your language.”
“Sorry,” I apologized.
“No, I’m sorry,” Ryan butted in, referring to the fact that he wasn’t going to tag along to keep me company. I crossed my arms once again and slid back on my seat.
Just. Great.
----
“I’m so glad you guys made it! I’m making just enough food for everyone,” a woman, I assumed was Nicole, greeted us at the door.
“Why would we miss such an opportunity like this?” Mom winked, giving her a quick hug, “I would love to help you finish cooking.”
“That would be lovely, Pattie,” Nicole smiled. It didn’t take long for her gaze to switch towards mine and her smile widened. “This must be your son!”
“Yup!” Mom confirmed proudly. “Nicole, this is my son Justin. Justin, this is Nicole, the woman I met at work.”
“Hey ma’am,” I said politely, holding out my hand towards her. She locked hands with mine and we shook them before letting go.
“He’s quite handsome,” Nicole playfully grinned, causing mom to laugh.
“Why thank you!” Mom giggled before adding, “Didn’t you say you had a daughter around the same age?”
“Oh yes, I’ll call her down here,” she nodded, turning back before shouting, “Kirsty, come down here, the guests have arrived!”
My heart stopped.
Kirsty?
Kirsty is Nicole’s daughter? My mom’s new best friend is the mother of my crush? Holy crap… I’m shitting my pants right about now.
“I’m coming!” I heard her voice from upstairs as Nicole turned back around to face us.
“Well, what are you two waiting for? Come inside!” she welcomed us, and we slowly stepped inside before she shut the door behind us.
Just about then, Kirsty came downstairs looking as cute as ever and going straight to her mom, not even noticing us yet.
“What took you so long?” Nicole asked her.
“Sarah was touching my stuff again,” she rolled her eyes.
“Whatever, just come say hi to the guests,” Nicole dismissed the subject, walking over to us. “This is Pattie–the new woman from work– and her son, Justin.”
Kirsty’s eyes looked at my mom and then locked on mine as her mouth gaped open.
“J-Justin?” she frowned.
“Kirsty…” I mumbled.
Mom’s eyes widened. “You two know each other?”
“Of course,” Kirsty threw her hands up in the air, as if it was obvious, “We go to the same school together.”
“Ah, well that’s nice,” Nicole smiled.
“Not really,” I heard Kirsty mutter low enough so no one could hear it. Of course… Except for me.
“Kirsty, why don’t you go keep Justin company and introduce him to your cousins upstairs? I’m sure you’ll all get along,” Nicole suggested, and I almost screamed in victory.
Now’s my chance to get her to like me.
“Mom, I-”
“You’ll be fine,” she gave her a reassuring look before turning to my mom. “Pattie, why don’t we go get dinner finished up?”
“Sounds great!” Mom immediately agreed, sending me an encouraging smile before disappearing into the kitchen with Nicole. Kirsty sighed, running a hand through her hair.
“Listen, Justin, my cousins are annoying as it is, I don’t need you to add on to my stress,” she explained.
“You won’t even know I’m here,” I raised my hands up in defense, letting out a small smirk.
She eyed me carefully before groaning to herself and stomping upstairs. “Follow me,” I heard her murmur, and I didn’t hesitate to obey.
She led me past a few doors until we reached what I assumed was her room. As soon as we walked in, I noticed two guys already inside Kirsty’s room. One of them looked around my age, while the other one was definitely younger. I’m pretty sure these two are Kirsty’s cousins.
“Michael, put my iPod down right now,” Kirsty commanded, pointing her finger at the oldest one, who indeed was messing with her iPod.
“I was just looking at the songs you have,” he defended himself.
“No one gave you the permission to,” she bellowed. Michael immediately dropped the iPod onto her bed, in realizing how serious she sounded.
“Can I play games on your iPod? You know, since Michael can’t use it?” the younger boy asked. He looked like he was about 10.
“No, Nick. It’s called an iPod, not a share-with-everyone-Pod,” Kirsty rolled her eyes. Right about then, a cute little girl— definitely the youngest— stepped inside and sat next to her brother, Nick. She held a barbie doll in her hands and stroked her hair before looking up at Kirsty with a smirk. She stared for a few seconds before shifting her gaze over to me, her eyes widening. She was the first out of all three cousins to realize my presence.
“Whoa!” she gasped, “Kirsty, is that your boyfriend?”
Kirsty’s eyes widened and she and I looked at each other. I let out a small grin and she slapped her forehead.
“No, Sarah, he’s just visiting.”
“Who is he?” she asked with interest.
“My mom’s new friend’s son,” she explained. “But I know him because we go to school together.”
Suddenly, Michael and Nick noticed my presence and they couldn’t stop staring at me. It was making me a little uncomfortable.
“What’s your name?” Michael asked.
“Justin,” I simply answered.
“Justin?” Sarah said, as if to test out if she liked my name or not. “You’re cute,” she giggled, her cheeks blushing a light red.
I let out a small smile. “You think I’m cute?” I cooed.
She nodded her head cutely.
“Guess what?” I asked her, walking closer to her and leaning down so we were at eye level.
“What?” she giggled.
“I think you’re cuter,” I winked at her, reaching my fingers out to her side and giving her a few light tickles.
“Stop!” she giggled harder and I leaned away from her, finding her absolutely adorable.
I looked back over at Kirsty, who’s eyes were shooting holes into mine. My smile dropped and was replaced with a smirk.
“What?” I asked her.
She shook her head, rolling her eyes before walking back over to her bed. She stopped about midway and began to frantically look for something. I was about to ask her what she was looking for but she suddenly stopped, giving Sarah a deadly glare.
“Sarah…” she spat in a warning tone. “What did you do with my homework?”
“Your… homework?” Sarah played dumb.
“Yes. I was doing my homework before I left downstairs to greet our guests.”
“And why do you think I have it? It could’ve been Michael or Nick,” she shrugged.
“You hid it somewhere,” Kirsty growled.
“No, I didn’t.”
“Yes, you did.”
“No, I didn’t.”
“Yes. You did,” Kirsty said in annoyance. “I can tell because you were the last one to come in here, and you had a mischievous grin on your face.”
The room fell quiet as Sarah continued to stare at Kirsty’s deadly glare. It was beginning to get a little uncomfortable, so I did the unexpected. I spoke up.
“Tell you what, Sarah,” I blurted out, causing all eyes to fall on me. I began to pull out my wallet and slip out a small coin. “If you give Kirsty back her homework, I’ll give you my lucky penny as a gift,” I gave her a sincere smile as I leaned down towards her.
Her face lit up as she stared at the coin in my hand. “Is it magical?” she drooled.
I chuckled. She’s way too cute. “Of course, why do you think I carry it around with me every day?”
She stared at the penny, admiring its features before shouting, “Deal! But only because I actually like you.”
I let out a grin in satisfactory before handing over the penny. “I’ll be right back,” Sarah announced, before exiting Kirsty’s room to go get her homework back.
Kirsty’s eyes were on me the entire time and I simply smiled at her before turning over to Michael and Nick.
“You two play XBOX?”
----
The rest of the day actually went by fantastically. I got along so well with all three of Kirsty’s cousins, making me have a hard time wondering why she despised them so much. The more minutes that flew by, the more fun I had. I earned this special bond with Sarah. And as for Michael and Nick, we all bonded intensely when we played video games. After a while, we all decided to play a board game and I immediately noticed how much better the cousins were getting along with Kirsty while I was here. We played fair and we had a lot of fun doing so. We were laughing practically most of the time, and by the time dinner was ready, we all came down talking to each other about the games we had just finished playing.
At dinner, I got to bond more with Nicole, and everyone else got to bond with my mom. It was amazing how we would speak with each other as if we were old friends who we haven’t seen in a long while.
I can honestly say it was one of the best days of my life. It was seriously that good.
“You need help?” I asked, leaning on the doorframe of Kirsty’s room as she cleaned up the board game we finished playing. Everyone else was finishing up dinner downstairs and I decided I should probably at least help cleaning the mess we made with all the fun we were having.
“You don’t have to, I got it,” she threw me a smile and, for the first time ever, it was a sincere one.
“It’s fine, I want to help,” I said, standing straight and walking over to help pick up a few pieces. At first, we remained silent as we worked on putting back all the pieces into the box. Once we were finally done, Kirsty picked up the lid and sealed it.
“Thanks,” she mumbled, brushing a strand of hair over her ear.
“No problem, it w-”
“-No,” she interrupted, “I don’t mean about helping me clean up.”
“Then what do you mean?” I asked curiously.
“I meant thanks for… Bringing my cousins and I closer. I actually had a lot of fun today and, to be honest, I thought today was going to be absolute torture.”
I let out a small smile. “I just wanted to prove to you that I’m not really such a bad guy. I do mean well, Kirsty, and I really like you.”
“I know you do,” she blushed. I stood back in awe at how well that smile fitted her. She should smile more often.
Without thinking, I reached over and took her hand in mine, caressing her thumb lightly. “So…” I began, “The pizzeria near my house is having a special tomorrow…”
She looked up at me, “And your point is…?”
“Would you like to go grab a slice or two? It’s all on me,” I smiled at her. She paused, looking down at our intertwined hands before biting her lip and looking back up at me. I stared back at her as she tore her gaze from me, scanning her room as if to think about my offer.
I waited for what felt like hours before she finally locked eyes with me, her lips curling up into a smile.
“That-… That sounds nice.”

Just to clear something up, I am doing all the songs in Believe, so you don’t have to ask me to do a specific one. If you’re wondering what order I’m posting them in, I’m doing them in the same order as the official Believe track list.
If you’re still wondering what order that is, go to iTunes, search up the album and look at the order they appear in. All Around The World and Boyfriend are the first ones which is why those were the first two I posted. And if you want to know which one I’m posting next, the answer is in the track list!
See you guys soon with the next one! :)
What’d you think of this one?
