DRAMA

A bird woke me up.

Anyways, I have a tendency to envision my life as one of those TV dramas where the story takes place at least a hundred years ago and everyone talks in British accents and there is intense violin music. Yeah, I'm exaggerating a little, but that's the point.

But there has been a lot of drama in my life lately.

Mainly friends arguing. So I don’t use their real names, I am going to call them

Friend 1
Friend A
Friend Alpha
Friend Mercury
Friend Do (as in Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Ti Do)

(If you go to my school and are in drama club, you will know what I am doing here)

But basically it all started when Friends Alpha and Mercury both went away for a while. When they came back, Friend Alpha was mad at Friend A because they thought Friend A was ignoring them.

Let me say now how agonizing it is being stuck between two friends arguing. You kind of have to choose a side, otherwise you're stuck in the middle with no one with you.

A good metaphor for this is leaving the choir room to go to your next class. You and a friend are about to leave the room, but then you want to wait for another friend. The first one is waiting for you, but then they give up and walk away. In an effort to catch up, you hesitantly walk away, leaving the other friend in the choir room. When they leave, you're walking alone in the middle. Both friends are mad at each other, so it doesn't feel right to choose a side. You try to be on both sides, but you wish they would just resolve the conflict because you don't know how long you can keep up being on both sides.

Back to the story. Then Friend A and Friend Alpha kind of did start ignoring each other because they were mad at each other. But the next day Friend Alpha apologized, and it was better. For a little while.

Later, Friend Alpha was mad at Friend A again, for pretty much the same reason, but not so mad to ignore her. I don’t remember this part as much, so I don’t know how long it lasted. Probably until I sprained my ankle.

Throughout the year, different friends started sitting at a different table at lunch. I still sat at the original table because I knew that someone thought the people sitting at the other table were traitors.

Friend A and I got an invitation to a birthday party. This was the only time that one of my friends has been mad at me. The birthday party was on the same day as Friend Alpha and Mercury's birthday. I had thought they were not planning anything, or I obviously would have chosen theirs over the other one. At first, it seemed like Friend Alpha did not mind, was just a little disappointed but understood. Friend Mercury didn't know yet.

After recess, Friend Alpha yelled at Friend A and I. I was confused. I saw Friend A telling Friend Mercury, and Friend Mercury seemed sad but not mad.

All throughout the day I was worrying about how long Friend Alpha would stay mad at me. I tried to find them and talk to them but they walked away. During choir class (Friend A, Alpha, and 1 are all in that class with me) Friend Alpha would not talk to us.

Luckily, Friend Alpha sort of forgave us through texting. The next day they were perfectly normal toward us. But that helped me recognize my worst fear.

You know that boggart thing from Harry Potter? Yeah, I have been trying to figure out what it would turn into for me. I thought at first it would be an uncurable disease, such as cancer. Then I thought it would be having no friends, because even if I did get an uncurable disease, my friends would be there to help me through it, and I would do the same for them. But then I figured it out: my worst fear is all of my friends- all of them- being mad at me for something I didn't do. And me not being able to convince them that I didn't do it.

Maybe this is why I reacted a certain way to this last piece of drama that I will share now:

My whole grade went to a water and theme park at the end of the year. My friends decided to all meet in this tent thingy, then those who would like to ride roller coasters would do that (Friend A and Friend 1) and those who wanted to most certainly NOT ride roller coasters would meet them at the wavepool.

This is what actually happened:

Another school that had people we knew in it also went to the same place. Friend A and I were hoping to be on the same bus, but it was decided by alphabetical order 😑. We were planning on going on a ride that was like flying over the wavepool. It was kind of a larger version of the Flying Squirrel in gym class. But MUCH larger.

Instead, I sat by Friend 1, which was fun because at least one of my friends was on the same bus as me.

We did meet at the tent once we got there. We did not see Friend A at first, but then they came to the tent. They said hello and immediately dashed off with Friend 1 for roller coasters.

Friend Alpha, Friend Mercury, and Friend Do went away to the wavepool. I should probably mention I did not like the wavepool. Getting dunked underwater for a few seconds by a nine-foot wave was not my idea of fun. Everyone else seemed to like it though. They kept begging me to try it. I stubbornly refused.

While they rode a huge wave every two minutes, me and two other friends (I don't have any more "first" things to call them, so I can't name them by not their real name so I won't name them at all) went to a new pool on the other side of the wavepool. It was cold. When I tried to swim it hurt my ankle though, so I pondered that for a while.

We went to the wavepool to wait for Friend A and Friend 1. My two friends that I was with went to go in the front of the wavepool. I would have liked to stay in the shallow end and be swept away by a two-maybe-three-foot wave, but my ankle prevented me from doing that. So I waited, alone, for Friend A and Friend 1. They did not show up. Then the two friends who were in the wavepool came out. We decided to go on water slides.

We saw Friends Alpha, Mercury, and Do on the way there. They were going somewhere else. We tried to go on this big, yellow waterslide, but it was time for lunch and the line was long. So we went back to the tent, stopping to pet the goats on the way.

We ate our lunch with Friends Alpha, Mercury, and Do. They had been waiting for Friends A and 1. They had been there since 11:30. We waited until about 1:00. I was not that hungry, but I ate my lunch anyway.

Friend Do then went on a roller coaster.

Finally, Friend A and Friend 1 came back. Friend A was in conversation with friends from the other school. Friend 1 was trailing behind. Friend 1 came over to us, and Friend A found out they had missed lunch and walked right back out without saying hello, still talking with another friend from the other school.

Friend Mercury was frustrated. But not directly at Friend A. Mainly at the friend from the other school. I am not saying why because that would probably not be good.

I was not mad. I was a little hurt that Friend A did not even say hello, but I was not mad. Because then nearly everyone in our friend group would have been mad at Friend A and I know I would not want everyone mad at me, so I was not angry. It makes sense to want to hang out with other friends once in a while. However, they could have said hello and let us know where they were going. We would have guessed the wavepool, but Friends Alpha and Mercury and 1 didn't really want to find Friend A. I would have been glad to find Friend A. They later explained that they were waiting for us at the wavepool.

Instead, we went to the new pool with all the fake islands and ruins. IT WAS FREEZING! We felt like we were doing the ice bucket challenge, except with a pool and not a bucket. I tried my best to swim without using my injured foot. I mostly just walked around the pool. We made our way all the way to the ruins. It was kind of a sprinker park at the ruins. Then we went to go on waterslides. Sadly, it was time to go so we had to get back to the buses. I never did get to go on the flying ride, but oh well.

The next day was the end of school. It is all fine now. No one is mad at each other anymore. As far as I know... but I would certainly not like the friend drama to start again when next year does.

I know they are reading this. A note to my friends: I did not use your real names and did not say things that any of you don't already know (I hope) except for my thoughts on the matter. This my have been a bit melodramatic lol, but my thoughts do tend to be melodramatic.

And for the rest of my readers: Thanks for letting me rant ☺

WAIT I JUST REALIZED I DID SOMETHING ALEXANDER HAMILTON WOULD DO- I WROTE IT SO THAT MY FRIENDS WOULD KNOW WHAT I WAS THINKING, BUT IT IS NOT UNLIKE HAMILTON WHEN HE TRIES TO PRESERVE HIS LEGACY SORT OF BECAUSE I WAS BEING HONEST BUT THIS IS PROBABLY NOT MAKING SENSE BUT IT DOES IN MY HEAD

okay. If that made any sense to you, I give you a round of applause lol

Well. I realized my parents might be reading as well. Um... yeah. That.

Anyway, see ya next time my readers!

That sounded like a line from a cliché TV show for little kids lol
