RACHEL'S POV

I waved at the driver as I hurried got down from the car. The was traffic on the way tight as usual and i was already getting agitated. I was five minutes late for the meeting with the girls.

Seeing the familiar tall blue and white buildings, the warm breeze and the students dressed in either long white shirts with either bow or tie, short pleated blue skirt or blue trousers. Feeling the warm tiled ground under my feet made me feel fuzzy.

I quickened my steps imagining Josephine's pouring insults on me. I soon got to senior block and I hurried walked towards my class.

I almost ran inside and as expected the girls were already talking, they didn't wait for me, as usual.

"Hey guys" I greeted as I sat down trying to sound casual.

"Didn't you hear me mention 7am yesterday night?" Josephine asked as I managed a smile.

"There was traffic" I replied and Ganiyat scoffed.

"Traffic my ass, just say you were up watching some stupid cartoons that made you sleep late" Ganiyat said hissing.

"Its animes" I replied pursing my lips.

"So?" Temiloluwa started. "A 15 year old still watching cartoons? Aren't you ashamed of yourself?" Temi asked as I chewed on my lower lip.

"Guys, can we focus on what's at hand?" Kunmi asked as everyone turned to her.

"The party is on Saturday, so let's start making preparations" Kunmi said with a big smile.

Her birthday was in few weeks time. Gani, Temi, and Josie had already celebrated their sweet sixteen birthdays. And it would be an understatement if I said it wasn't grand.

Temi's was the grandest, her dad had rented a whole event center for her. She had wore a breath taking armless red gown that day. She was so happy and I shared in her happiness not like she was happy to share with me.

Gani's had a simple and yet elegant birthday party in her compound. Our classmates and the whole SS2 block had been invited. A lot of people came and it was really fun.

Josie's birthday was huge. Her brothers helped her celebrate it in an hotel. Many of our classmates came and her brothers friends. I remember Josie getting drunk that day and Snr Judas dragging her off to God knows where.

It was Kunmi's sixteenth birthday in a few days and mine in few weeks. I and Kunmi had been both in June, Kunmi was early June while I was born late June.

"So its going to be a very huge party" Kunmi said bringing out her small pink jotter.

"Okay, where are you doing it?" Temi asked crossing her legs.

"My house. You know my compound is very big" Kunmi replied.

"So I'll just tell my elder cousin about the cake" Gani said.

"Don't forget o" Kunmi said as Gani laughed.

"I won't nah" Gani replied.

"What am I doing?" I asked seeing that Kunmi had left me out in giving out things to do.

Kunmi glanced at me and scoffed "I'll bring the invitations tomorrow, you'll help me share them in the block" Kunmi replied as my colour drained from my face.

I was terribly introverted. I couldn't even make a proper conversation with my desk mate, how would I be able to share the invitations to about six classes.

I gritted my teeth and nodded solemnly. If I voiced out now, they were going to heap loads of insults on me.

The bell went off for the first period as I walked to my seat. Gani and Kunmi were deskmates while Temi and Josie were also deskmates. They also sat behind each other.

My desk was few seats away from them making me always miss out in the small talks and gists that happened within them. Most times during class, I always looked at them to pick one or two things so as to be able to say something during lunch.

My desk mate didn't bother to say a word of greeting knowing fully well that I wasn't going to reply or rather I would stutter out one.

The Maths teacher walked inside and slammed his textbook on the front desk.

"Good morning sir" the class echoed.

"Good morning people" Mr Afolabi replied waving our second test scripts in his hands.

"You guys crashed the tests, so proud of you" Mr Afolabi added as he passed the test scripts to the class captain.

"Share it" he told him.

I played with my fingers nervously as Patrick walked over to my table and dropped two scripts on the table and walked away. I quickly grabbed both scripts and passed the other to my desk mate.

I opened my script and sighed. The moment I saw zero written in a red pen. I pursed my lips.

I had zero, again.

It wasn't my fault I hated Maths. I just never remembered excelling at it. I folded the paper neatly into my locker and watched as Mr Afolabi taught us.

I yawned in between because hell, I could swear I didn't understand one bit of whatever he was saying. I placed my head on my table and slept off, one thought on my mind.

I can't kill myself.

It was time for break and I was on the line. The girls were already sitted and chatting while I queued to get us our snacks.

I quickly grabbed a large tray as I got to my turn. I placed drinks on the tray. Sprite, Coke, 7up and Bigi Chapman according to their preferences. I also grabbed Gala, Yum yum and Rite. I grabbed a potato snacks and hollandia yoghurt for myself as I swiped my meal card.

Everyone was looking at me weirdly as I walked to our table. The cafeteria workers were used to it and didn't say a word.

I placed the tray in front of the girls as they picked their share.

"Why didn't you bring an extra tray? You know I eat my snacks halfway. You don't expect me to put it on the table bah?" Josie asked looking irritated.

"Sorry, I'll go get one right now" I said as I quickly walked towards the counter and grabbed two trays.

I walked back to the table and dropped the trays. I had teared the nylon on my potato chips before Gani started talking.

"Where's my own tray? Abi I don't deserve one?" Gani asked as I quickly stood up and took another tray before running back and giving Gani a tray.

"Did you see the new trousers online yesterday?" Temi asked excitedly.

"They are very expensive" Gani grumbled.

"I'll just tell Judas to get me one" Josie replied with an air of importance.

"Dare told me yesterday he's broke, so I can't ask him" Temi replied with a scowl.

"He's always broke" Temi added hissing loudly.

I chuckled inside, someone that got you a 12K set of bags not less than two weeks ago.

"Dump him nah" Gani sneered.

"I'm thinking about it too" Temi replied pulling down the nylon of the Yum Yum.

I pursed my lips not saying anything. Temi and Kunmi had boyfriends. Gani had a massive crush on Snr Tobi but he wouldn't even look her way. I remembered her saying she wouldn't date anyone except him.

Na sister you go be las las.

And as for Josie, her dream guy and her crush was well my crush too.

••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Remember Tobi? Toke's Assitant Class Captain?

Yeah, that's him.

Some characters in THAT GUY may appear randomly in this book.
