Chapter 4 Sasaeng

Mae and Sikyeong sat in the VIP seating area, separated from the WT Bar members who were in the standing area. WT's music videos were being played on the wide screens as the enthusiastic fans sang along to the tunes.

When the music took a turn, they all knew who was going to appear before them. Waving their light sticks, they started chanting the members' names in harmony.

Sikyeong looked at Mae as she joined the massive crowd uttering the name of the members with them. The red light flickered on her face as she motioned her light stick back and forth. The universe in her eyes lightened up when the members rose up from beneath the stage. They were all wearing red suits with golden lines exquisitely embroidered on them, each suit with a different and unique design tailored for them and them only.

"Let's make some noise!" Baek Hyunjin shouted and the fans cheered even harder.

The members advanced towards the center of the stage and started to dance when the beat dropped. They were full of energy, their moves were sharp yet smooth, as if they were dwelling in the music and their bodies blended with the melody to create a masterpiece that was only possible through years of hard work. They knew all their sleepless nights trying to perfect each movement didn't go down in vain when they saw an ocean of red filling the whole stadium, scintillating for them, carrying all the love and support.

They were as thrilled as the fans to finally reunite and perform for them. They shared a mutual connection of something even words couldn't describe. It is enthralling for them to know that there's a nation of people who are being inspired by them and bettering themselves because of the message they transferred through music. Thinking about all these, they performed even harder, trying to show these adorable fans the best version of themselves.

After performing the intro and the first two songs, the boys finally stopped, being soaked in sweat.

"Everyone, did you enjoy it?" One of the members, Kwon Jae Chan, asked while others took a sip of water from the bottles handed by the staffs immediately after the performance ended.

"Yes!" The fans yelled back loudly.

Min Cheol's eyes explored through the huge crowd, seeking the face that was hidden deep in his memory for a long time. He didn't continue, knowing that it'll take forever. He simply handed the water bottle to Kwon Jae Chan and took over to communicate with the fans.

"It's been a long time since we held a concert in Seoul. It's still surreal how far we have come, which would have been impossible without you guys..." He spoke, his voice slightly quivering.

Mae listened carefully to each of the words he enounced as her eyes focused solely on him, tracing all the emotions he leaked unintentionally.

Sikyeong leaned back and observed her silently, the aura she once lost was now back. She looked like a teenage girl again with her eyes shimmering, reflecting the shadow of Min Cheol.

The concert ended in tears as their heartbeats synched to lament the bittersweet past. The fans sang along one of the songs they released in their first album. A song filled with dreams, hope, and struggles. Even Sikyeong couldn't help but hum to the soft music of piano and violin.

Mae's lips trembled, she rested her head on Sikyeong's shoulder, a teardrop slowly trickled down her cheeks.

It seemed to have become a tradition to pour their emotions out in every concert. WT couldn't be more grateful towards these strangers who loved them and supported them for so long while the fans - who longed for them, spent sleepless nights listening to their music and watching their videos - couldn't be more happy and sad at the same time. Happy, because they finally got the chance to spend time with them; sad, because one of the most beautiful moments of their lives almost came to an end. Soon, the emptiness will fill in when they have to wave each other good-bye, the lights will dim down and the hall will become vacant.

Mae exited the hall that day with a hoarse voice, they all did. Their voices became husky due to all the chanting and screaming for the seven boys they love so much.

Mae separated with Sikyeong right after the concert ended. If she was to make Sikyeong popular, she didn't want her relationship with Sikyeong to become a barrier. It was to protect both Sikyeong and her.

She reunited with the WT Bar members at the entrance. They waited to see off the members together. Although they all watched the whole concert, they still didn't want to miss the chance to see them again, even if it's just for a brief moment.

After half an hour, the members came out. Liu Qiàn brought out her camera stealing her chance to take the best shots of Kwon Jae Chan. He's not her bias but different admins are assigned with different members to focus on when they take pictures. It didn't bother her that much because she was not one of those "poisonous" solo fans.

After WT left, the WT bar members decided to go back to the hotel alone. They thanked the admins for taking care of them in this unknown land before leaving.

Mae and Liu Qiàn were the last ones left in the venue, so Mae turned to Liu Qiàn and suggested: "I'll drop you off, let's go back together."

"Dude, I live in Gwangjin and you live in Apgujeong, I should be the one dropping you off!"

"I have no rush, I can still drop you off. Besides, it's been a long time since I ever roamed the streets of Seoul. I would even suggest to go to Hongdae and have some snacks if I didn't know you are tired now. " Mae smiled at her as she linked her arm to go towards the road and hail a taxi.

Liu Qiàn sighed and let her. She was hesitating to say something, but couldn't decide if it was the right thing to say. Mae probably felt it, so she looked at her and asked: "Is there anything you want to say to me?"

"I am not sure if I should ask this." She looked at her, swithered.

"I don't mind any kind of question. What I do mind is that you have something in your mind that you want to discuss with me, but you are not letting me know." Mae became serious. Their arms still linked together, she could feel Liu Qiàn's muscle tensed up.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to look at the text you got. " She confessed at first, looking at her apologetically, and then continued, " But why would you get a text from someone who would give you information about Min Cheol?"

Mae's eyelashes shuddered. She could see the accusation from Liu Qiàn's eyes. She could guess what she was thinking of her, probably a sasaeng. She didn't answer her right away.

She only slowly opened her mouth when Liu Qiàn took her arm back and stepped a foot back: " I accept your apology. It was actually my fault, I wasn't careful enough."

She temporized to answer the main question. She wasn't sure if she can trust the person in front of her.

Liu Qiàn was still glaring at her.

"Min Cheol... He, he was actually my senior in school. I had a crush on him, but he never responded. We didn't even talk after he graduated. The one who sent me a text was our mutual friend. He's working in an agency as an assistant, so he knows a lot of stuff. He thinks I still like him that way, so he started sending me updates even though I never asked him to." She lied. She couldn't afford to risk it all.

"Why are you in the fandom then? If you didn't like him anymore?" She peered at her with suspicion.

"At first, it was because I still liked him. But slowly, I grew fond of everyone else, and I just couldn't leave them all." Mae tried to look as genuine as possible, trying to gain her trust back. If she didn't, she might be in a huge trouble.

The fandom is not just made up of a few teenage girls anymore, there are millions of people who could go against her if she missed a single step and some of them might even have a powerful background. She has seen way too many cases where a person's life is being ruined because they caused a fandom to hate them. Especially the Chinese and Korean fans, they have the ability to take extreme measures. Mae's parents might be able to help her, but that will mean they will never allow her to step inside Korea or China, her own country, again, at least not until she was forgotten by people. The internet today is so powerful that even before her parents can stop her personal information from being spread it will be everywhere.

Mae looked at her, gripping the hem of her dress nervously.

Liu Qiàn was still looking at her with her eyes narrowed and it caused chaos in Mae's mind. Still, she used all her strength and managed to look as calm as possible.
