Player's POV~

~

I wonder how the game is going.

I yawned, bored from waiting. I began to feel kind of sleepy. I must've dozed off because the next thing I remember was the sound of bean shaped astronauts respawning. I jumped up, startled.

Oh, the game must've ended.

I saw Veteran at the other side of the lobby and went up to him.

"Hey, Veteran!" I exclaimed. All I got in response was a cold glare. Then he turned and walked away from me.

Huh?

I decided to try again and caught up with him.

"Veteran?"

"Leave me alone, Player." He grumbled and made his way towards Greaser.

Why is Vet mad at me? Did I do something wrong?

I heard shouts coming from across the lobby. It sounded like TheGentleman and... MrCheese?! I turned around, and sure enough, MrCheese was standing there and fighting with TheGentleman. MrCheese was back?! Since when?! Where was MrEgg??

How much did I miss?! I was only gone for one round!

"Alright folks, time for the next round!" Captain announces.

Veteran's POV~

~

Imposter

I got imposter! With Player as my partner. Great. Just great. Out of 8 other people, the game chose him to be my partner. I swear this game is rigged.

"Everyone scatter!" Captain shouts, and all the crewmates run to do their tasks, leaving me and Player alone in Office. We stood there in silence for a few moments until Player took a stab at making a conversation.

"So... who do you wanna kill first?"

I knew exactly who I wanted to kill.

Captain.

But I just rolled my eyes and hopped into the nearest vent.

I wonder what he's trying to do, acting as if nothing happened. Who does he think I am, an idiot? He's the one who's being stupid.

I could hear Captain's terrible singing above me in Storage.

"Oooooh, Player, Player, Player, he's my best friend, best friend, best friend, best friend"

Gritting my teeth, I vented into storage. He didn't even notice and went on completing his task while singing. I took out my knife and stabbed him not once, but multiple times.

This is what you get for taking away my best friend.

I finally stopped, breathing deeply. Then I self-reported the body.

"Player killed Captain!" I accused. Player's visor widened.

"N-no I didn't!"

"Did too. I saw you!"

Player tried to defend himself, but in the end everyone voted him out.

Goodbye sucker!

I'm still broken up by the fact that Player betrayed me, but now I have growing hate for that little traitor. I'm in a rage, and I will get revenge for this. Mark my words.

Captain's POV~

~

Crewmates' victory! Take that, Veteran! We played two more rounds before dinner, and during the game I couldn't help but notice that Player wasn't into it much and was kind of gloomy. I decided to talk to him. Who knows, maybe I'll be able to cheer him up!

"Time for dinner, everyone! Into the cafeteria!" I yelled after the second round. I saw Player a little way ahead of me, so I called out, "Hey, Player! A moment?"

Player stopped and waited for me to catch up to him.

"Yeah, Captain?"

"Player... are you alright?"

"Y- yeah. I'm fine. Why?"

"You seem to be in a gloomy mood today. Is something wrong? What's bothering you? You know you can tell me anything, right?"

"Yeah, I know", he sighed

"Is it Veteran?"

Player seemed surprised to hear that. I guess he thought I didn't know.

"H-how-"

"Lucky guess", I replied with a shrug.

"I- it's just... Veteran seems to be cold shouldering me and I'm worried. Why is he mad at me? Did I do something wrong?"

"Oh... maybe he's just in a grumpy mood today. I'm sure he'll come around, especially since he's your best friend!"

Right?

"Yeah, maybe..."

Player still seemed unsure. I pat his back reassuringly and got a small smile in return.

"Thanks, Captain."

"No problem, bestie! Um... we are besties, right?"

I blurted out the question and instantly regretted it. Of course I wasn't his bestie, Player had Veteran already... I braced myself for the answer. Player seemed to be considering it. I wish he would say it already, I know I'm not-

"Yeah, I guess we are."

No way... I was Player's actual bestie! I felt a surge of happiness, this time stronger than before because the real Player himself was saying so!

"Yay!! I was afraid for a moment that I wouldn't be, when you didn't reply right away."

"Heh...", said Player, looking a little nervous, but I was too happy to care.

"Now let's go and get some dinner! I'm starving!"

And with that, I and Player walked into cafeteria together, me so happy that I could sing.

Player's POV~

~

Why did I say I was his bestie?! I really messed that up. But I just couldn't say that I wasn't, it would hurt him, and I didn't wanna let that happen, I didn't have the heart to, not after doing something to Veteran to make him angry, whatever I did. I doubt Veteran will 'come around' like Captain said, but I appreciate trying to help me feel better.

Today's games weren't the same with Veteran not talking to me. And it didn't help at dinner when he kept on shooting these angry looks towards me. Captain went on talking about something to do with a picnic, but I wasn't really listening. I was too busy wracking my brains to remember when I had done anything wrong to Veteran. The problem was, I couldn't remember any time as such. I was so focused that I even forgot to eat my dinner. I only snapped out of it when Captain tapped my shoulder.

"Huh?!"

"How much longer are you planning to stay here, Player? Everyone else is gone", he asked, indicating to the empty seats.

"Oh- um, I'm going right now!" I got up, flustered.

"But you haven't even eaten your dinner."

"I- I wasn't hungry."

"If you say so."

I decided I would go and try to talk to Veteran again. I knew my mind wouldn't be able to be at rest if I didn't. I slowly trudged up to the door of his room. I was going to make this work. I had to make it work. My heart beat faster with every step closer I was to his room. I reached his room, raised my hand to knock on the door, but then paused.

Should I really do this? What if it makes things worse?

...

But it won't get any better like this.

Taking a deep breath, I knocked on his door, hoping I could fix it all.
