Chapter 8

"Hey Jaaaaan?"

"Yeah Rem?" Janus asked, sparing Remus a glance.

"How much would you say-"

Janus sighed. "No, I will not be betting you on anything to do with the bet."

"But-"

"No." Janus said. "I find the whole idea of betting on someone's heart barbaric to say the least."

"But Jan-"

"Rem. No." Janus said, sighing and looking at his boyfriend. "Why did you have to choose Virgil? Out of everyone?"

Remus shrugged. "He came through the door first."

Janus rolled his eyes. "Bullshit." He said simply. "The door must've opened at least, I don't know, five times before Virgil came in. And I know for a fact that he wasn't the only boy our age the-"

"Because he'd be good for Roman." Remus protested. Janus looked over at him.

"Really? Really?!" He asked. "Explain to me, just indulge me for a second, how would breaking my best friend's heart be good for Roman?"

"Because he's a stupid prick." Remus said. "I hate him. And I want my old brother back. The brother who I could actually get along with at times. And he's not your best friend." He added. "Not anymore."

"Yeah but this isn't going to help."

"Since when did you want to reconnect with Virgil?" Remus asked sceptically. Janus shrugged and crossed his arms. He checked his phone in a way of avoiding answering Remus.

"Oh shit." He hissed. "You need to go."

"Huh?" Remus asked. "Why?"

"My dad's coming home in five minutes and I am not allowed anyone over. Boys, girls, no one."

"I'd like to meet the fucker." Remus decided. "Just to talk to him."

"If he finds you in this house, he will kill you and then me. So you need to leave. Come on." He grabbed Remus by the arm and dragged him along the landing to the loft. Remus looked from the window to Janus.

"You've got to be joking. Why can't I just leave by the front?"

"Because when my dad says he's coming home in five minutes, he means he's already at the bottom of the street. He's got magic eyes, I swear to God. He will see you leaving by the front door and question me about it." Janus rubbed his arm as a way of trying to comfort himself. "I may be good at lying, Rem, but not about you. I'll slip up, I know it."

Remus looked back at the window and sighed. "Fine."

"Thank you, Rem."

"I need a kiss first." Remus said, grinning. Janus sighed.

"We've got no ti-"

"Kiss." Remus insisted. Janus laughed nervously and kissed Remus quickly.

"There. Does that sufice?" Remus grinned and nodded. "Good. You'll need to go down the hill and over the fence. There's a path. You'll get to your street at the first turn."

"Okay." Remus said, nodding. "How do I get out, though?"

Janus rolled his eyes. "Hitch yourself up onto the window and jump. It's not that far of a jump and the grass should cushion your fall, okay?"

Remus nodded. Janus grinned but stilled as the door opened downstairs. He started shoving Remus towards the window. "Go, go, go."

"Okay, okay." Remus said, clambering onto the window. He kissed Janus swiftly and grinned. "Bye Jan." Janus watched him jump out the window and run off down the garden. He let out a sigh of relief once Remus was clear of the fence.

"Janus?" Peter asked, poking his head into the loft. "What're you doing here?"

Janus closed the window quickly and turned to face his dad. "Nothing dad. Just trying to find something."

I'm probably gonna have the scene where Remus meets Janus' dad soon because that kinda kick-starts the rest of the story. DoN't RuSh Me!
Bye,
Blaize
