Chapter 6

Janus hit the heel of his foot on the ground repeatedly, worried. Remus had always called him doing that 'Pulling a Thumper' after his favourite Disney film, Bambi. He checked his phone again, knowing it was pointless. He could feel the vibrations of the outgoing call as he tried for the fifth time to call Remus. He wanted to apologise. The call ended without Remus picking up. Janus sighed and turned his phone off. Texting Remus would be pointless, he wouldn't care and his dad would probably see if he went through Janus' phone. He'd just have to try again later.

Remus is calling you

Janus took a double take at his phone before picking up, grinning in relief.

"Rem, dear God, I'm so glad you picked up."

"What d'you want, Jan?" Remus' tone made everything inside Janus freeze.

"I, I just wanted to say sorry. For snapping at you." There was silence from the other end of the line. "Rem?"

"I need to go now, Jan."

"Rem, plea-" Remus ended the call. Janus sighed and put his phone in his pocket.

Remus sat, staring at the window, not seeing it or the view beyond it, the heels of his hand tucked underneath his chin and his hands curled up, his fingers just touching his neck. Guilt welled up and crashed over him in tidal waves. He shouldn't have cut Janus off like that. Janus had apologised, hadn't he? Remus sighed and dragged both his hands through his hair, closing his eyes and trying to decide what to do next.

"Hey Re." Roman said, sounding very happy.

"What Roman?"

"Guess wha- You okay?"

"I'm fine."

Roman let out a snort of laughter. "Yeah, like I'm gonna believe that."

Remus sighed. "How's the bet going?"

"It's going good." Roman said, grinning. "I managed to talk to him."

Remus sighed and got up, grabbing his phone. "Good for you."

Boyf riend is calling you

Remus took a breath and picked up the phone.

"Rem?" Janus' voice came through, slightly crackly. He sounded like he could've been crying. "Rem, are you there?" Remus didn't say anything. "I'm sorry, Remus. Really sorry. I shouldn't have snapped at you. You were being a good boyfriend and I shouldn't have yelled at you for it. Rem? If you're there, please can you say something? Please?"

Remus bit the inside of his lip. Janus sighed on the other end of the line.

"I really am sorry, Rem. I'll leave you alone. I... nevermind."

"Jan?" Remus whispered. "Don't go."

"Rem?" Janus voice was back on the line, this time with hope cutting through the sadness.

"I'm sorry." Remus said, a small crack breaking his voice.

"No, you don't need to apologise for anything. It was my fault, I really shouldn't have snapped."

"I shouldn't have pressed." Remus said quietly. "You told me it was a touchy subject and I didn't listen."

"It's okay, Rem." Janus tried his best to put as much reassurance in his voice as he could. "I know you just want me to feel safe."

"Of course I do. But I still shouldn't have pushed you for an answer."

"We both screwed up, huh?"

Remus let out a small laugh under his breath. "Yeah, guess we did."

"Forgiven?"

"If you forgive me."

"I didn't need to forgive you for anything, Rem. But yeah."

"Forgiven." Remus felt a grin of relief spread across his face. "I'll see you at school tomorrow, yeah?"

"Yeah." There was something at the back of Janus' voice that he couldn't place. "Bye Rem."

"Bye."

See, I'm nice?! The couple is over their fight. I'M NICE, RIGHT?!
Bye,
Blaize (new name, whatcha think?)
