Chapter 4
WARNING: Not nice parenting? I don't know what it is but it's not good
Janus poked his head around the banister and looked around for his dad. He spotted him on the couch in the living room. He gulped as he recognised the look on his face. Carefully, he padded down the stairs.
"Hi, dad." He said cautiously. Peter didn't look around. "I did yell when I came back home. Perhaps you didn't-"
"Perhaps nothing, Janus." Peter snapped, making Janus jump. "You did come home on time and I did hear you come in." Another short burst of silence filled the room and Janus could actually feel the waves of anger coming off his dad like waves of burning, scorching heat. "Who was that on the phone with you?" So that's what this was about.
"Just a friend, I told you dad." Janus said shakily.
"Really?" Peter asked. Janus nodded. "Because you seemed to be having an awful lot of fun talking to him."
"Stop assuming pronouns." Janus snapped in his head. "It's not nice."
"We're just friends, dad." He said instead. Peter glared at his son.
"Friends don't talk to friends like that, Janus." He hissed. "Give me your phone. I want to see his contact name."
Janus had guessed that this was coming and had made the proper modifications. He handed his unlocked phone over to his dad. Peter scoured the contacts list for about a minute before grunting slightly and giving Janus back his phone.
"Just a friend, dad." Janus mumbled as he slipped his phone back into his pocket.
"Fine." Peter grumbled and Janus wondered if he could slip away, back up to his room. "Janus?"
"Yes dad?"
"Is there anything you want to tell me?" From any other parent, the question might've been kind and open but it was more accusing coming from Janus' dad. Peter knew his son had a secret, he was just to unbothered to dig it up for himself.
The unwelcome thought of telling his dad he was gay sprang to Janus' mind but he quickly pushed it away and met his dad's eyes, which were an even lighter blue than his. "No dad." He said, trying to keep his voice even and slow. He'd gotten so good at lying that it was almost second nature to him now. Peter held Janus' gaze with his own for a few seconds more before dropping his eyes. Janus took this as a sign that he could go.
"That was close." Janus thought as he closed his bedroom door. "Shit, dad, why can't you just leave me alone for once?" He felt a buzz on his phone. It was Remus, asking if he'd gotten into trouble. Janus bit his lip and texted back 'no'. Because, to most people, he hadn't. He knew he had but to an outsider, it would just look like an over-protective dad and a deceitful son. He didn't like lying to Remus, he didn't like lying to anybody, but it was so he could keep everyone safe. His dad was stronger than he looked. Janus didn't want anyone to get hurt because of him. Ever.
Ah yes, the angst. *sips angst tea*
*coughs because it was too hot*
Bye,
Queenie
