Chapter 28

"How is he?"

Remus shrugged and looked up at his brother. "He's finally asleep. He's really scared, Ro."

"Are you going to call the cops? Janus' dad deserves it."

"I don't know. Jan was crying over it. And I don't want to upset him."

"If the thought of reprimanding his dad is making Janus cry-"

"It's not that. He thinks the cops won't believe us and that's what he's scared of."

"But the cops are still likely to make an investigation. Child abuse is a very serious thing to accuse someone of."

"Yeah but he says that his dad's a better liar than him and if he's been keeping himself and me in the closet for the past two years, he's got to be a pretty damn good liar."

"So your saying that Janus is scared the cops aren't going to believe him because his dad's a good liar?"

"Yeah. And isn't that how, like, Ted Bundy got away with some of his crimes? By lying his way out of them?"

Roman sighed. "Look, I don't know, Re. You're the one with the freakish amount of knowledge on serial killers, work that out for yourself."

"Jesus, fine. Just thinking aloud, didn't know that was illegal now." Remus hissed. There was silence for a while.

"So... are you going to call the cops?"

"No idea." Remus sighed. "Jan's on the fence about it and it's Jan's problem, anyway, don't really want to get in the way."

"Yeah but we're kinda already in the way, aren't we? He came to this house cause he could trust you. Pretty sure that warrants you being able to call the cops."

"Pretty sure it doesn't."

Roman rolled his eyes. "Whatever. I've given my point, I'm going to bed. Going to an audition tomorrow."

"You're going to a lot of damn auditions."

"This one's for the local Nativity show." Remus made a quiet gagging noise. "Oh shut up, Re. I'm going to play Gabriel. If I get the part I'll get a solo and everything."

"Does Virgil know about this?" Roman didn't say anything. "Thought not. Stop prioritizing acting over your newly found relationship with your used-to-be-ex."

"Can't you just call him my boyfriend? I don't call Janus your used-to-be-friend."

"Yeah but that's because I didn't lose his trust because of 20 qui-"

"You bet me!"

"Keep your voice down, you idiot!" Remus hissed. "And yes, I did bet you. Didn't know there were gonna be tears over it."

"Oh shut up. And leave Virge out of this conversation. This is about your problems, not mine."

Janus turned around in the bed yet again. It wasn't his bed, it was the bed. The bed he had been given to use while staying here. And he wasn't going to stay here for long. So, no, it wasn't his bed. It was just the bed.

Janus sighed and ripped the pillow out from under his head and hugged it to his chest. He was bored and he was scared and he felt alone. Even though the one person he could trust was around the corner, Janus didn't think he'd ever felt so alone. Maybe it was because the fact that he could never go back to his - the - house had just sunk in. There was a quiet knock on the door, making Janus jump.

"Sorry." Remus hissed.

"Rem, what d'you want?" Janus asked, rubbing his eyes.

"Well, I was thinking that if you're going to live here for the time being, we're going to need to get you your stuff."

"How though? I'm not allowed back at my house and you're definitely not."

Janus could almost see Remus' cheeky grin in the dark. "We're going to steal it. Tonight."

PLOT POINT! Also, Peter might get what's coming for him..... maybe.
Bye,
Blaize
