Chapter 25

WARNING: Janus' dad, homophobic slur, getting kicked out of the house

Janus swallowed. "H-Hiding things?" He asked.

"Don't stutter, Janus." Peter snapped.

"Dad, I haven't been hiding things from you." Janus looked down at the ground for a second before looking back up at his dad. "Are you sure your friend saw m-"

"Before you even finish that sentence, yes. She gave a description of both of you, as I asked, and the description of you was almost down to a T. Apart from one thing." Peter reached out to point at Janus' face and it took all of his will to not flinch away. "You wore your scars like a part of you, not a punishment. You disregarded everything I have taught you about how people who are ugly should be ashamed and get their comeuppance."

"What's happened to me isn't a punishment." Janus muttered.

"What sorry?" Peter put his hand behind his ear to show that he couldn't hear Janus. "What did you say to me?"

"What's happened to me isn't a punishment. It's just how I am."

"Just how you are?" Peter repeated. "And who put that stupid idea in your head? Wait, I think I can guess who put the idea that you are anything less than a monster in your head." Janus curled and uncurled his hands into fists. He was used to horrid comments about his face but never from his dad. "It was your boyfriend, wasn't it? Remus or, what did you call him? 'Rem'?"

"Remus isn't my boyfriend." Janus said. "And I didn't mutter this time, dad, you should be able to hear me."

Peter didn't make a comment, he just glared at Janus. "What does he want?" Janus thought. "If he wants to kick me out, he could just say and this would all be over." But Janus knew that his dad liked mind games. And he was playing one right now.

"I disagree, Janus, and there's not point hiding the truth from me." Peter's mouth turned upwards in what Janus thought could have been a smile but it really just looked sinical and scary. "The woods out back? You thought that was your safe place? I heard you talking to him, Janus. I heard you talking about calling the police on me. And I saw you. You said that years of living in this house has taught you to always check. But never double check?" Peter shook his head and made a tutting sound. "I saw you, Janus. I saw you kiss him. I know what you are. But, I'm getting ahead of myself. Let's dissect this 'Rem' character, shall we?" Peter shook his head. "Even for a pansy, you've got poor taste, Janus."

Janus swallowed again. "What do you want?" He asked, his voice quiet. This time, Peter seemed to hear him fine.

"All in good time, Janus. Right now, let's see... What attaining attributes does 'Rem' have?" Peter looked at Janus expectantly. Janus didn't say anything. "Come on, Janus, the clock is ticking." Janus still said nothing. He wasn't going to play his dad's stupid game. Not this time. "If you don't answer, we'll have to go for the default. No? Very well then. Hm, 'Rem' has-"

"Don't call him that!" Janus snapped.

"Excuse me?"

"Don't call him Rem." Janus said, slower. "That's my name for him and I won't have you taint it."

Peter glared at his son. "Get out." He said, his voice soft and dangerous. "Get out of my house right now!"

Janus didn't need telling again. He ran around his dad and out into the garden. He didn't stop running until he got to the turn-off to Remus' house. Although it wasn't a long way to run, Janus was panting by the time he stopped. He felt around in his pockets, trying to find something that might be useful. The only things he could find were his phone and a crumpled £5 note.

"Where am I going to go from here?" Janus thought. "Rem said I could call him if anything happened but..." There was nothing to finish that sentence with. What excuse did he have to not call Remus? Biting the inside of his cheek, Janus dialled the number and waited for something to happened.

"Jan? Are you okay?" Remus' voice came through almost immediately, panicked.

"I'm... yeah. Rem, could I maybe stay with you for a couple of days?"

"Um, I guess. Why? What happened?"

Janus wiped his eyes, surprised that tears had appeared. "I got kicked out."

FINALLY SOMETHING INTERESTING HAS HAPPENED! Also, this is nearly the end of the story and Peter probably isn't going to get a piece of Remus' mind because A, I have no ideas for that and B, the only way I can see it ending is with Remus getting hurt. And that would not be good for anyone.
Bye,
Blaize
