(63) Setting Him Straight
Izzy's POV
"Huh?" I ask, not really believing the words that just came out his mouth.
"You're father; I'm surprised that he didn't really care when your brother went missing."
He takes the last sip of his coffee.
I take a deep breath and push my plate to my right so my elbows can rest on the table.
"Think before you speak Sir."
I growl.
He raises an eyebrow.
"I did think. My thinking reminded me that your father is a terrible man."
My hands ball into fists.
Calm down.
If you don't, then you might never get that name and phone number you want.
Swallowing my anger, I plaster a smile on my face and giggle.
"Oh he just gets a bit moody every now and then. He isn't a bad man at all!" I say.
"Are you going to answer my other questions?" He asks, rather harshly.
I nod.
"My mom cries a lot and my dad wishes that he could have done more." I tell him.
Silence.
"Are you going to continue?"
He asks.
This dude is getting on my nerves.
"Of course!" I say.
"I was just collecting my thoughts."
He nod and places the last bit of bagel into his mouth.
"They sometimes get into fights because whenever my dad doesn't do something, mom brings up Andy." I say.
"That's to be expected in a home as broken as yours."
Irene!
I know my home is broken, but that does not give him the right to point it out!!!
"Yes." I agree through gritted teeth.
"Your check." The waitress magically appears out of thin air and places the check on the table.
She then grab our plates and cups before walking away.
I reach into my backpack for my money when Brenton stops me.
"No, no, no, we can't have you paying. This is on me." He says.
Good, I didn't want to pay for you anyways.
I place a fake smile on my face as the waitress reappears and takes his credit card to cash is out.
As she does so, both him and I stand and gather our belongings.
"Well it's been nice chatting with you Izzy." He says.
"Are you going to give me that man's name and number?" I almost snap.
He better have it to me.
He frowns and pull out a pen, grabbing a napkin.
"His name is Jeremy Fitzgerald."
He tells me while scribbling on the small white napkin.
When finished writing, he hesitantly hands it to me.
"I'm not to sure he'll be willing to talk though." He warns me.
"It took a lot to get him to even say one thing to me."
I roll my eyes as the waitress hands him his card back.
"Farewell Izzy. I hope your Dad pulls himself together and realizes he shouldn't be ignoring the world and its problems."
Brenton smiles and starts to walk for the door.
That's it!
I'm sick of this random guy acting like he knows everything!
I already have the number and name, so I don't have to worry about not getting to for doing this.
As he's about to walk out the door, I yell to him.
"Hey Brenton! You British
jerk-wad!!"
All heads in the diner turn to me.
Brenton stops dead in his tracks and looks at me, surprised.
"You know nothing about my family!" I yell.
"Just because people make mistakes in the past, doesn't mean it's what their whole story is about!!!"
He looks taken aback.
"Yes, my Mom's depressed and my Dad made a terrible mistake all those years ago!
But that doesn't mean you can act like you're so much better!"
The whole diner is silent.
"You say awful things about my family, especially my father, like you live with us and know what goes on in their minds!!"
Even the waitresses and cooks seem too busy eavesdropping to stop my rant.
"Well you don't! They realize their mistakes and people like you keep holding them back from becoming better people and learning from their experiences!!!"
The look on his face is priceless.
"So why don't you crawl back into your hole and die for another ten years until a new 'story' comes up for you to talk bad about!!"
With that, I go directly past him and stick up my middle finger as I walk out the door.
As the door shuts I hear people slightly clapping and saying, 'You go girl!!!'
I chuckle and head off to find a payphone so I can call this number.
+++
It didn't take long for me to find one very close by.
I take some change out of my bag and pop it into the slot before putting in this man's digits.
One ring, two rings, three rings, fo-
"Hello?"
A confused sounding voice comes through the black phone.
"Hi, is this Jeremy Fitzgerald?"
I ask in the nicest tone I can muster. I'm still a bit angry from back at the diner.
"Yes? Who is this and what do you want."
His tone changes from confused to serious with a hint of irritated.
"Sorry to interrupt your..."
I look down at my watch to see it's only 11am.
"...morning activities, but my name is Isabelle Carmichael.
I am the niece of Aphmau Afton."
The line goes silent.
"Sir?"
I question, concerned the phone cut off on me.
"Aphmau didn't have a niece."
He says.
"She did."
I assure him.
"I am Andy Afton's twin sister and I'm looking for information about him and my Aunt."
The man grunts.
"Tell your news friends to stop harassing me."
He growls before hanging up, leaving the line dead.
He thinks he can just hang up on me like that?!
I am not in the mood Jeremy.
Putting in a few more coins I calm back.
"What?!"
He shouts angrily into the phone before it can even ring once.
"Sir, I can promise you that I am telling the truth. I just need to find out more about everything that happened."
I say, very calmly.
"My parents never even wanted me to know about it."
Silence.
I hear some clicking sounds and then a sigh.
"If you really are who you say you are, then alright.
Meet me tomorrow night downtown at the park.
If you don't show up or are late, you get nothing."
He makes it clear that I only get one chance.
"Of course Sir. Is eight o'clock an alright time?"
I ask.
"It's fine."
He then hangs up.
Putting the phone back on its holder I throw my fist in the air with victory.
And a step closer I'll get.
