(58) Ruining Dinner
Izzy's POV
The three of us sat at the dinner table eating in awkward silence.
The air was so thick that you could try and cut through it with a knife, but would only make it so far through. I had questions I wanted to ask about my
de-missing twin brother and I could feel that they knew it.
They should have known I would ask questions. Since there is no easy way to start off this conversation, I just do.
"How come I was only just about to meet him on my seventh birthday?" I ask.
When I had walked in on them talking about it I had heard something about cheating, but wanted them to tell me the story themselves.
"Um," Dad sets his fork and knife down on his plate.
Even with him lightly setting down his silverware, it still made a clanking sound.
"Your brother looked nothing like me. Your mother had cheated on me and in return had one twin of another man."
Mom glares at him with hatred burning behind her dull brown eyes.
"That is not true." She said, her voice quiet.
I turn to her.
"How would you even have twins with different Dads?" I ask.
She shakes her head.
"I would had to have been with another man less than hours after getting pregnant. Which I didn't do because I loved your father." She replies sternly.
"Then why did 'our' son look nothing like me?" He asks her.
"He did look like you! Pretty much exactly like you! He got your eyes and both of our hair! What more do you want?! Him to be obsessed with trying to find a reason to get away from me like you did?!" Mom bursts.
Dad sits there silently.
"I'm here with you now, aren't I?"
He mumbles under his breath, but we can both hear him clearly.
"You weren't there when I needed you most James!" She starts to cry. "Our son, my son, had gone missing, murdered, and you weren't there for me! You were there for the case and completely ignored the fact that your own son had gone missing." She almost whispers the last part.
"Dad?" He turns to face me, looking like he want to bawl his eyes out.
"I don't look like you or Mom."
I tell him.
He smiles.
"You've got my Mom's hair and my Dad's eyes." He says, a tear finding its way out his eye.
"And then the brown and purple in your eyes come from your mother and I."
Tears are now pouring out of his eyes and Mom has gone silent.
"Why was the case closed?" I ask.
Mom's head perks up.
"Yeah, why was at closed?" She looks angry again.
Dad swallows, there's probably a huge lump in his throat.
"Because there wasn't enough evidence and we couldn't waste officers and investigators on a car with no evidence."
He uses the same tone of voice that I hear him use when on the phone with his cop buddies or at work.
"Why did you stop looking for him Dad?" I ask.
Even more tears cascade down his face.
"Because-...because......I couldn't deal with the pain!" He admits.
"I wasn't even allowed on the case because he was family.
"That was the day I had realized that I needed to grow up and give my son a father and to give you your mother. But of course life always has a different plan."
He's sobbing now with his face in his hands. Mom looks surprised.
I think I've ruined this evening long enough.
I clear my throat, getting their attention.
"May I be excused?" I ask politely.
Dad nods.
Getting up from my chair, I take my plate to the kitchen and clear it off. I then set it in the sink and head to my room.
The second I close my door, I sprint to my computer and log on.
Where the heck is that stupid search thing again?
These things are still new so I'm trying to get use to it.
They're pretty expensive so I was surprised when Dad bought me one and said I could have it in my room. After a minute I find the search engine and type into the searchbar,
Claire Afton
Tons of results come up.
My Mom was pretty popular around the world when my brother and his friends died.
I spot a website called,
'Claire Afton's Family Story'
Being the curious child I am, I click on it and begin to read.
19XX Claire Afton's
Family Story
Everyone around the country has heard the story of Claire Afton and what happened to her son and his friends on his seventh birthday at a local Freddy Fazbear's Pizza.
We still do not know exactly what happened, but some think that Claire Afton herself killed or kidnapped her son.
I for one deny this claim based strictly off what I know.
Now today I don't want to talk about what happened then; I'm hear to talk about her past.
Claire Afton is the daughter of William Afton and sister of Aphmau Afton. (I could not find their mother's name)
When Claire and her sister were very young their mother left them because of their father being too into his work.
Later Mr. Afton strangely disappeared, leaving the young girls all alone to take care of themselves.
When Claire was twenty she gave birth to her twin children, Andy Afton and Isabelle Carmichael.
The father, James Carmichael, left soon after, claiming that their son Andy wasn't his and took Isabelle with him. He ever signed Andy's birth certificate which is why he has his mother's last name.
I've heard that Isabelle and Andy never had the chance to meet before he sadly went missing. I don't know if that is true or not though.
Isabelle, also known as Izzy, has never met Claire. That I know for sure.
Detective/Officer James had closed the case less than a year after it happened.
I will update when I get more information on the family.
I write down important things in a notebook, like Mom's dad's name. I also write down that Dad closed the case quite soon.
Then I write down how Mom's mother left when she was young and her Dad mysteriously disappeared also. Scrolling down, I see the man who wrote this article has updated it recently.
Let's see what else this man has got to say.
