"Runaway" - Chapter 5

Adrien sighed as he watched Ladybug jump away swiftly. Her ponytails flying behind her. He turned his attention towards his door, hoping to see Nathalie or someone else. He wasn't hoping to see a man with a mask covering almost all of his face but his eyes and mouth. In a purple suit this man would look very mysterious, if it weren't for a fact that Adrien knew, somewhat, who he was.

"Hawk Moth," Adrien whispered just loud enough for the man to hear.

"Adrien Agreste, nice to meet," Hawk Moth paused, "actually no, I'm surprised that the Chat Noir is... my son."

Adrien stared at Hawk Moth, he can't seriously be telling the truth. Don't villains usually lie? There's absolutely no way that Hawk Moth could be Gabriel, Adrien's father. Right? Adrien looked back at the open gate of the Agreste estate, it would be a good run. But if Hawk Moth is lying he would be running away from home without reason.

Without another word a beep went off, but it couldn't of been his miraculous. After all he was Adrien, not Chat Noir. He turned his attention to Hawk Moth, just at the right moment too. A purple swirly wisp surrounded him, kind of like when he transformed into Chat Noir, and probably Ladybug as well. His suit went into a white one, with a red and white striped handkerchief. (is it a handkerchief or tie? I can't tell)

Adrien stared at the man who he had called father for so long, the man who also would do anything for his miraculous and Plagg. Gabriel opened his mouth, probably to say something, but Adrien wouldn't let him say whatever he was going to. Instead he ran, ran away from the man he had called father, the man who might even kill his own son for his miraculous if he needed.

He peeked into his vest (jacket?) and saw Plagg, quietly eating a piece of Camembert. Probably his second piece as well. Without looking back, at his old house or Plagg, he yelled.

"Plagg, claws out!"

Good thing he wasn't out of the open. But where would he go? He couldn't go to Nino's, especially not as Chat Noir. Alya would probably record it thus letting Gabriel know his whereabouts. He could go to Marinette's after all she was really close friends with Ladybug so she could probably inform her that he was there. He would probably be welcome there as well and maybe trust her...no. He promised Ladybug he wouldn't tell anyone, not even her. Although he would like to.

Jumping across the rooftops towards Marinette's. After all where else could he go, everyone would probably make him go back home once he had accidentally transformed back into Adrien in front of them. Marinette probably wouldn't although she might freak since she always stuttered when he was around.

Around fifty rooftops later he had finally made it to Marinette's rooftop balcony. Knocking on the window hatch probably woke Marinette since it had gotten late but she might of been working on homework they were assigned. Marinette had usually worked on it late. She gladly came to the window hatch, opening it for Chat. Allowing him to come in a bit.

"Chat," she yawned, "what are you doing here?"

"Sorry Princess," he apologized, "I -er- need a place to stay for the night, I guess."

"What do you mean, you guess?" Marinette asked, getting just a bit curious.

"I-I ran away," Chat answered, a bit nervous about what Marinette would say.

"Why?" She asked, "it's okay if you don't want to tell me."

"Family problems," that wasn't quite it but it was close enough that it would work.

"What if your transformation wears off?"

"I was kind of hoping you wouldn't mind, after all, my father kind of hates me right now," Chat chuckled near the end hoping he wouldn't give off too much information. But if he were to tell Marinette that he was Adrien it wouldn't be hard telling her that his father was Hawk Moth, if she even knew who he was.

"What would Ladybug say?" Marinette asked, sitting on the edge of her bed.

"I don't know, I don't exactly know where or who she is," Chat answered leaning against the hatch's outer rim.

Marinette patted a spot beside her on her bed, "what about school?"

"I could always walk," Chat answered , sitting down beside Marinette with his legs pulled up to his chest, "it's not that far."

"Are you sure you trust me with your secret identity?"

"Yeah, your kind of my second Ladybug," Chat admitted, "it's nice having someone to talk to that actually knows me, for well, me."

"Second Ladybug," Marinette muttered. If only he knew.

Marinette looked towards Chat, his blonde hair had spread out across her bed, his eyes close. He had fallen asleep. Ruffling his hair she gently kissed the top of his head, a small smile spreading across his face. Marinette didn't notice but she gently placed her light pink blanket over him. Surprisingly Tikki wasn't under it this time but on her pillow. Good thing Chat hadn't noticed.

"Tikki, what am I supposed to do?" Marinette asked her little red kwami.

"I don't know, he did say he ran away didn't he?" Tikki asked, trying to recall the moments she had overheard while she was asleep.

"He did, but what about him transforming back?"

"He said he trusts you Marinette, you, not Ladybug you, Marinette you," Tikki told her, gesturing  to her with her hand.

"Well, I guess I do trust him enough for me to tell him my real identity but not now, not after today," Marinette sighed as she looked towards the pile of work she had to do for her project with Adrien, "my question is where did Adrien go after Chat put him somewhere safe."

~|~|~

Adrien woke the next morning, the pink blanket Marinette had laid on him all tangled up around his feet. He knew the blanket was from Marinette, because why would her parents come and put a blanket on him. They'd probably try to shoo him out. He sat up and rubbed his eyes, looking around for Marinette, who was practically no where to be found. He got out of bed, in the clothes he was wearing before. He would have to go back to the Agreste estate to grab some more but that should be fine he'll just bring a backpack.

"Marinette," he muttered, searching around for the black haired maiden. Although she would probably freak when she found out he was Chat but that didn't matter right now.

He went down the small staircase to the bottom of her room and there she was, asleep. Her face on her tablet and her eyes closed. He couldn't wake her, besides she looked cute while she was asleep, to Adrien at least. He hadn't noticed but Tikki had taken shelter from him under her desk, peeking out from under it to see what he was doing.

Adrien found a sticky note pad not far from where she had fallen asleep, saying that his school started early or something like that. But what would he do once he got to school, his father probably sent someone to look for him. Maybe his chauffeur to search for him, and maybe once he found someone, an Akumatized person. Since his father did know he was Chat Noir.

Marinette mumbled something but Adrien couldn't quite hear but it sounded like something along the lines of Akuma or maybe something else but Adrien wasn't sure. She probably heard a lot from Ladybug about the Akuma attacks and that's how she knew about them. Adrien swiftly wrote on a yellow sticky not and planted it right beside Marinette. It was just a simple note, nothing much just saying he had to go. But he couldn't go to school, could he?

No, if he did someone would be there waiting for him and if he didn't everyone would know something was up. He worked up the courage and shook Marinette from her slumber.

"Marinette," he whispered, loud enough for her to hear. But Tikki got a bit too curious and almost slipped off of Marinette's legs, she caught herself though.

"What time is it?" Marinette asked, half asleep, "Chat?"

She rubbed her eyes, yawning as she did. Instead of seeing Chat in front of her, like she thought she would, she saw Adrien Agreste. The person she had a crush on for the longest time.

"A-Adrien!" Marinette yelled, but before she could get anything else out Adrien placed his hand slowly over her mouth. Placing a finger over his own.

"Marinette, I need you do something incredibly important for me," he started, "say I had a photo shoot or something just please don't let anyone find out I'm missing."

Marinette just stood there, wide eyed. The person she had liked for a year was the person she had just started falling for. Adrien removed her hand but she couldn't speak, all she could was nod her head.

Smiling Adrien began to talk, "good. At least I know someone will help. And if Nino asks why I have one so early in the morning just say that, um, say something to get his mind off it. And please don't freak out, and I know that Ladybug wouldn't of wanted this I just, it's hard to explain. I'll see you later."

And with that he jumped out the window hatch above her bed, which had been open all night. Letting a cool breeze in. Marinette felt a sneeze coming but didn't know when. Instead she just got ready for school, grabbing her things, thinking about how Adrien is Chat Noir, fixing her hair, thinking about how Adrien is Chat Noir, okay most of it was thinking about Adrien was Chat Noir. She just couldn't wrap her head around it, the flirty Chat Noir was the Adrien. The Adrien she had had a crush on. He hid it pretty well though. Wait that means Adrien likes Ladybug! And Ladybug is Marinette so technically he likes Marinette!

Without a peep from Tikki nor Marinette Marinette walked down the stairs and to the bottom floor of her house, finally the sneeze had come. Almost sneezing her way out the door, her mother had come to check on her. But Marinette was out the door before she could talk to her.

"Tikki," Marinette started to the little kwami in her purse, "I don't know how I'm going to do this."

"Just be you!" Tikki suggested, "you were always you when you were around him when you didn't know he was Adrien why would know be any different?"

"I don't know," Marinette sighed, bumping into someone, "s-sorry!"

Looking just a bit up she started shaking, it was Chloe. But why was she walking? Marinette ignored her insults and just walked ahead. Sighing as she did, maybe she could let a little Ladybug out. But that might end up bad. Besides Chloe envied Ladybug, it was actually quite funny sometimes when she had caught her trying to be Ladybug.

"Hey girl!" Alya rushed up beside her, "your not late today!"

"Yeah," Marinette said, trying to sound excited.

"Girl, what's the matter?" Alya asked her best friend, grabbing her by her shoulders.

"N-nothing," Marinette answered, stuttering on her words. She couldn't exactly tell her best friend, the person who updates the Ladyblog, a blog dedicated to Ladybug, that she knew that Adrien was Chat Noir. That would blow his whole cover!

"Girl are you feeling alright?" Alya asked putting her forearm on Marinette's forehead, "your burning up! What did you do sleep with your window open all night?"

"Kind of," Marinette answered, letting out a sneeze right after.

"You have to talk better care of yourself Marinette," Alya said, giving Marinette a hug, "are you sure your okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine," Marinette could feel another sneeze coming on.

"Hey!" Nino yelled from behind them, "have either of you seen Adrien, I can't find him anywhere."

"I'm pretty sure he's at a photo shoot," Marinette lied, to her best friend and Adrien's. How long would she be able to keep this up?

"Really?" Nino asked, fishing out his phone from his pocket, "he didn't text me saying that."

"I met him along the way to it, told me to tell you guys," Marinette added another lie on top of another.

The bell rang and Marinette sneezed again. But that one thought was still on her mind.

Adrien is Chat Noir.
