I dreamed of a future,

when we no longer had to worry,
about what society wanted us to be.

I dreamed of the day,
you got down on one knee, 
held out that diamond ring,
and whispered "Marry Me."

I dreamed of those moments,
where nothing kept us apart, 
you'd whisper sweet nothings in my ear,
planting hot, burning kisses in the dark.

I dreamed of a life,
where I'd always wake up with a smile,
and you're lying there right next to me,
ever since you walked me down the aisle.

and I dreamed of a perfect family,
hoping that it would one day come true.
but as the years went by, so unexpected,
I saw something change in you.

the sound of broken lamps,
and vases crashing against the wall,
and the endless fighting and screaming,
reverberating across the halls.

and the venomous sound of your voice,
as you pinned me up against the wall.
regretting the day you married me,
and the day I gave you my all.

and the sound of children screaming,
crying, "Mom and Dad, please stop!"
but I couldn't bare to look at them,
when the room turned silent as a pin drop.

now I dream of a day,
when I no longer have to feel this pain,
and these scars on my back can finally heal,
and I'd no longer be your slave.

I dream of a brighter future
of only me, myself, and I.
with my children safely under my care,
and you no longer part of my life.
