Before the Social

"Where are they?!" I hissed, shoving things around my bathroom as panic grew in my chest.

I'd lost my lenses. Sure, I despised them, they made the world all pixelated so I couldn't make out fine details, but Mother was going to kill me. I needed those lenses. I was going to a social event, and it was against the law to go without them.

A voice from behind made me jump. "Looking for these, Meredith?"

I turned around and saw my little sister, Isabella, leaning against the doorway, holding my light-blue lenses case.

"I found them on the kitchen table." Isabella relented as she tossed me the case, "You're lucky Mother's not home yet. You'd be so dead if she was."

I caught the case and let out a sigh of relief. "Thank you so much, Izzy." I gave her a quick hug, "Are you ready yet?" I asked her, noticing that she hadn't done her makeup or put on a fancy dress.

My sister blushed, and looked down, ashamed. "Um, no. Not yet. I was busy explaining that we needed our homework done to M1 and I1."

M1 and I1 were our clones. They were currently locked away doing the homework we were assigned. They were there whenever we needed them.

I shook my head, letting out a sigh of frustration. "Quick, Mother will be home soon. I can do your makeup."

I remembered her normal attire and clapped my hands. Almost instantly, R13, a robotic servant, was in my doorway. "Go get Isabella dress #347," I ordered it. "I want no wrinkles or spots on it."

R13 left, and the 12-year old smiled. "Thank you."

I said nothing and started picking out colours for Isabella's makeup. She had a pale complexion and platinum blonde hair, along with dark, green eyes. I chose a metallic purple eyeshadow, a gold glitter shadow, and a bright red lipstick to make her lips pop.

R13 was back within minutes, the dress neatly on a hanger. I took the purple and gold dress from it and shooed R13 away.

It wasn't long before Isabella was ready and Mother was calling us.

"Isabella, Meredith, come down here at once!" Mother's sharp voice hollered from downstairs. "It's time to leave!"

"Coming!" we yelled back in unison.

I popped in my lenses and followed Isabella down the staircase.
