Part 14: The Body
Thud.
My hands slammed the hard ground. By the texture I could tell it was probably dirt. I tried blinking multiple times, but the darkness was overwhelming. My knees ached, as I had probably scratched them up.
Suddenly, a cold sensation flooded my body. I was filled with fear as an icy hand covered my mouth. I bit down. Hard.
"Ow! What the heck?" A familiar voice yelped.
"Huh?" I stammered, standing up from the kneeling position I was previously in, still, not seeing anything but darkness.
"Lemme find the light switch," He said, shuffling soon followed.
Click.
Light bounced off of various surfaces, some beams accidently hitting me in the eyes. I squinted in the direction of the figure. My eyes adjusted, and when the person came into view, I swear my heart stopped beating.
"Lesley?!" My dry lips drew in a sharp breath. "I-I... I saw y-you,"
"Shhh! They can hear you!" He covered my mouth with his hand firmly. I was so in shock that I couldn't move. "That was me... But that wasn't me." Lesley whispered, staring right into my eyes, dead serious. I managed to pull his hand away.
"What the heck, that doesn't make any sense!" I started to back away from him, and I could feel the cold cement wall behind me. I took a moment to look at the surroundings. Small wooden shelves lined the wall opposite from myself, and on every ledge was a mirror. Eerie. The ceiling was most likely asbestos, and I was cautious not to bump my head on it. The one thing I noticed most, though, was that there was only one way out, and Lesley was blocking it.
"Okay, I know this sounds weird, but poltergeists can be controlled. Almost like possession." He sighed, and sat cross legged on the ground. "That's what happens to me." I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
"Alright," I paused, and pursed my lips. "Then how am I supposed to believe anything you've told me? K.E.P probably doesn't even exist! Heck, maybe I'm not a poltergeist!"
"Hey, calm down. And be quiet! They can hear you!" Lesley looked very concerned.
"Who can hear me?!" I got mad. Nothing was making sense.
"K.E.P." He replied in a hushed tone. "We must hurry."
"I can't trust you," I said.
"Who else do you have? Nobody can see you anymore except me." He had a point. I rolled my eyes, sighed, and then nodded. I watched for his next move, but it never came. "You have to lead the way. I don't know where it is."
"Where what is?"
"Your body."
