After

Pass through the shadows,
A silver coin beneath your tongue,
A final word on your lips,
As you take the ferry across waters dark
To the final sentence upon your soul.

What lies in those hollow eyes?
What does that still heart hide?
What have those pale hands done?
Approach the judges with your head bowed,
The weight of your deeds on your shoulders,

And gaze out at a future unknown.
