Chapter 31 - So ship Finn and Brynn

The weekend went by rather slowly. It was a black out as far as Brynn was concerned. With no cell and I'm guessing her being at her father's she had gone incommunicado.

I was so looking forward to Monday, it couldn't get here fast enough so I could see her again... okay, yeah I'll admit it. I have it bad. Serious crush issues here, but there is so much to like, her smile, her laugh, even her crazy way of talking that I don't always follow. I miss her and it's only been two days.

My Mom had informed me that she will be driving me to school to keep me off the ankle which sucks because then I won't be able to meet up with her at the bus stop... not that, that plan has had a high level of success or anything but I do like sneaking in our time, whenever I can. Now I'm stuck in limbo waiting.

My phone rings, I leap for it which is a mistake with my foot and I come crashing to the floor.

"Finn? You okay?" my mom hollers up the stairs.

"Fine Mom. I'm good!"

I missed the call however and curse under my breath. As I reach for my phone I see Missed Call Tyler. We've talked several times this weekend. He was happy to hear the injury wasn't as bad and he was in a much better mood because Sierra had agreed to see him. (After receiving a dozen long stem roses and a long apology from him).

They were meeting today to iron out the details of how this or if this relationship could really work. I have a sneaky suspicion they are going to find a way to be together. I still feel a pang of guilt over not giving my Mom a heads up but I'm banking on Tyler keeping his word, that this will come nowhere near her. Stupid maybe but I need to trust him, he's my best friend.

Getting up off the floor and hitting the call back button on my phone it rings only once and I hear, Tyler's voice on the line.

"What took you so long?"

"Not moving as fast, remember?" I say in defense of his tone. What was wrong now?

"Get on Facebook, you are going to want to see the message I sent you."

Tyler knows I don't do Facebook, it's a venue for people to either spam you with what they think are funny cat videos or a place for people to intrude on or judge your life and what you are doing with it. So, I steer clear. I do however keep an account so I can follow my video game sites and see the developments in the latest console games.

I open my laptop and click on his message, what I see makes me want to fall over, all over again. "Oh, this is SO not good!"

"What are you going to do now?" Tyler asks me.

I have no freaking clue as I've had about .5 seconds to absorb what I'm looking at and my brain still wants to deny it.

"You know that Jessica is going to freak out when she see it. And Brynn is going to be getting far more attention and not the good kind from it."

Tyler keeps talking and my brain is fried.

Damn, damn, double damn. I can't even warn her. She is out of my reach. She is going to be walking into a field of landmines Monday morning.

"Who posted it?" I ask.

"That's all you've got to say?" Tyler asks shocked.

"Maybe I can ask them to take it down?"

"Good luck with that," Tyler says, totally unconvinced, "It's Stephanie Wallis, school gossip and newspaper editor. She must have been at the game and has a really good phone to get such a clear shot."

There it was in vivid color Brynn in my arms and us kissing with a heart drawn around us both, with the tag line:

"So ship Finn and Brynn"

I cringe as I realize our names rhyme and that will make prefect fodder for the morons at school to have a field day with. Then there was the dilemma of Jessica. I had no doubt that she had seen this knowing she followed Stephanie's page religiously to see how many times her name was mentioned.

"There's going to be an article in the school paper tomorrow about the game... you know this will be the highlight don't you?" Tyler says breaking into my musings.

"Shit, I have no way of talking to Brynn. I can't warn her of what she will be walking into. I should have done a better job of protecting her. I haven't even warned her about Jessica's vendetta yet."

"We need the team," Tyler said.

"The team?"

"Enact the pact," Tyler said.

"Really? You think it's as bad as all that?" I ask getting a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach, he may be right.

"The more eyes and ears the better. One of us can always be around to make sure Jessica or her cronies don't get anywhere near Brynn. With luck we can buy you some time to warn Brynn and let her know not to travel without one us around."

The sick feeling I felt in my stomach traveled down to my feet that now felt like two lead bricks. "She's going to hate this. She's going to hate me for doing this to her."

"Technically she had done it to herself with her over enthusiastic kiss. She jumped into your arms, remember?"

"Not helpful, Ty."

"Look, I'll call the team. I'll let them know what's up. Maybe your Mom has Brynn's grandmother's number and you can talk with her about it. She can warn Brynn before she gets to school."

I had to admit that was a good idea.

"Okay, I'll talk with my Mom and you talk with the guys. Thanks, Tyler for watching my back."

"Hey, it's what's best buds are for, right? Talk to soon, Finn."

"Bye, Ty."

I no sooner hang up the phone and my Mom comes into my room no doubt to check on what caused the loud thump earlier. She peeks her head in my door first and I wave her in.

"You okay?"

"No," I say honestly and turn my computer around for her to see the picture.

"Oh my!" she says, appropriate as it was it still felt a bit of an understatement.

"Yeah. Brynn won't know about this, Mom. She's not exactly up to date technology wise. She's at her Dad's and I don't want her walking into a time bomb that will blow up in her face the moment she comes face to face with Jessica."

My Mom frowns and is suddenly stern. "What does Jessica have to do with any of this?"

Did I mention my Mom really doesn't like Jessica?

"She's hell bent on that if I'm not dating her she will destroy whoever it is that I am dating."

"Then how could you let this happen?" my Mom said and started pacing the room.

"Really Mom? What was I suppose to do, drop her like a hot potato when she jumped into my arms or pushed her away when she tried to kiss me."

She stops pacing and looks at me for a moment, "No, I guess not. I just know Brynn is a very private person, even if she is a bit impulsive."

"I know, which is why I need to ask you a favor? Can you give me her Grandmother's number so that I can warn her?"

"No."

Not what I was expecting. "Why?"

"Besides the fact that it's against policy rules, it's impossible I don't have access to that information until I am at the school."

I didn't think of that.

"Hasn't Brynn called you at all from her Grandmother's house before?," my Mom asks.

"That's right! I would have the number in my recent calls list from the last time she called." Whoa, why didn't I think of that? My brain is too fuzzy being on this pain medication.

"Thanks Mom!" I say giving her a quick hug. "I'll call her grandmother, maybe she can give her a heads up."

"Smart thinking," my Mom, says grinning at me.

"Mom, can I start taking Tylenol or something and get off these pain meds, they're dampening my ability to think properly and I have a feeling I'm going to need my wits about me for the next couple of days."

My mom looked at me concerned, "Are you sure?"

"Oh, yeah! I'm surer then sure."

"Alright then. I'll see if the Doctor can prescribe you a stronger version of the mild stuff," she leans over and kisses my cheek, "I'm proud of Finn. That was a pretty adult decision you just made."

"Thanks, but it won't mean a whole lot if don't stop get a handle on this and soon."

Mom tried to give me an encouraging smile but I could see even she was worried. "I'll leave you to your phone call," she said and left my room.
