⋡14. Registration
Author's POV
Both amigos were somehow inside the impossibly huge registration office. What was amazingly weird was that it was so freaking big that you could put thousands of people here. It wasn't like the normal registration centres we see in the human world. It was a gigantic skyscraper that was 10 times bigger and taller than the Empire State Building.
Another thing that was surprising was the number of people that were there. Namjoon and Jin could easily see like a hundred people right in front of them. And there weren't only Korean people, obviously. There were also people from all over the human world. The workers who were working behind the desk and operating other people were flawlessly speaking all the languages. Namjoon was more than shook after looking at all of this.
"People from all over the world, who have died, come here. The helpers speak every language that exists, actually. And the thing is that there is a spell that allows us to understand the other person in real-time. Unlike the AI, you don't even have to wait for a second to fully understand what they are saying. It's as if you know their language pretty well, even if you don't," Jin explained. "Really? Wow!" Namjoon exclaimed.
As they were both looking around, a man who looked like one of the workers came to them. "Hello! I see that you have just died, sir," The worker said, pointing to Joon. "Can you please tell me how you died? Because then we will be able to send you to the type of Registration Department that fits your cause of death." Jin sighed. "He is a living being!" He said. The worker's eyes widened. "Wait..really?" "Yes, I am a fresh, living, breathing, and not dying human," Namjoon added.
"Oh my God! For that, you will need to go to the special incident registration department. But, you will have to wait a little longer because the chief Angel is in a meeting right now." "Oh... oh well. Then where do we go for now?" Joon asked "You will have to wait in the waiting area of our chief. It's located on the 233rd floor. I will register your appointment." " Is there like a lift or something?" Namjoon questioned again. "you can take the teleporter for a quick trip or, if you want to enjoy the view then you can take the glass lift."
Namjoon looks at Jin. "let's take the elevator. I wonder how this whole place will look like from a height." He said. "yeah sure" The helper showed them the elevator. After that, they were on their own. Namjoon looked out the glass lift and was amazed by the beauty of this world. "This is so beautiful!" He squealed. "I agree. Also random question, but do you like night or day?" Jin asked. "Night!" "Why is that?"
"Well, the night is the time when most of the hidden beauty of nature appears. It's the time when you are able to enjoy the peace and comforting quietness of the dark. I don't usually like quiet, but the night just brings out the best of me. The beauty of the moon along with its stars just glorifies the whole sky. It's like one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen on Earth. The moon's basically another reason I like the night so much. It's like a shining diamond in the darkness. The night and its moon and stars are just so amazing. "
"Well, they are. But only if you know their real owner." Jin mumbled in slight wrath while looking out of the lift as well. "What? What did you say? I didn't quite hear you. Sorry." Namjoon asked apologetically. "Oh, um...I was saying that you must really like the night and the moon" Jin nervously laughed. Namjoon was slightly suspicious of him. "Oh look, we arrived!" Jin said and got out. Namjoon was still looking at him weirdly, but he let go of the thought when they walked out.
It was quieter on this floor because there were fewer people here. Though, the floor was still very big and looked so majestic with all the chandeliers and stuff. Before Namjoon and Jin could walk any further and lose their way, a worker stood in front of them. They were actually in front of a huge door. "Your name, please. Only the designated ones are allowed here." She said while looking mostly at Namjoon.
"Kim Namjoon. I think a worker on the first floor set an appointment for us." Namjoon said. The lady looked through her smart glasses and found their appointment. "Oh, I see, well, please come with me." She brought them through the door to a luxurious lounge. "Please wait here. We will call you when the chief arrives." "Ok thank you," Jin said.
They both sat down and Namjoon started talking. "Bruh, how come they are only asking for my name and not yours?" "Because, first, they already know me, second I have already got registered, you dumb ass bitch!" "O-oh, that's why" Namjoon rubbed the back of his neck. "Also, why and how do you think I got here? Because you said that it was basically impossible." He asked again.
"Well, from what I know, there are only two types of people that can make it through. The first one is someone that has the strongest of strongest and bravest of bravest souls. The second one is someone that the Lord, Mother Nature, and all the angels had pity on and decided to bring in."
Namjoon was in disbelief. he definitely didn't have a strong or brave soul. So it meant that the Lord pitied him. "Bruh! So are you saying that the Lord let me in because he pitied me?! Bro! The Lord noticed my existence!" Namjoon said with excitement. "The Lord is aware of everyone's existence," Jin said blankly. They both also continued talking until the same worker came back to them, told them the chief is here, and then brought them to another office.
Namjoon and Jin sat behind a large modern and futuristic desk. The whole room looked like the place of a billionaire. In front of them sat the Chief angle on her huge black puffy chair. Behind her was a wall-sized window that showed the view of the ghost city.
"So you're telling me that you brought a living human being with you?" The chief angel asked. "I mean, I thought you knew about this already cause there was a meeting between the angels." Jin shrugged his shoulders. "I wasn't in that meeting. Only the higher-ups were allowed. Also, why did you bring him here?" "Oh well, because I need to find my thing...so yeah. Now I will kindly ask you to move to the main topic." Jin said.
"Fine" She sighed and started talking again. "Ok, Mr Kim, since you are here in the ghost world 'willingly', we will have to put you through the soul reader. There is nothing to be scared about, it's just like a human MRI machine but just more advanced and made in a slightly different way. After that, we will be able to get the data of your current life deeds. For example, what you have done in your life, what is your current situation in life, major events and any other information.
Though, your good and bad deeds will be the most important information because-" "I already told him about that." Jin said with an unbothered face, cutting her off. "...I see. Well, anyways, so after that, there will be some documents and agreements that specifically will HAVE to sign. "Ok...I guess," Namjoon said. "The worker outside will show you the way to the soul reader."
Namjoon was now inside the soul reader room. It was a dark room that had a lot of blue neon lights illuminating due to all the tech stuff. Inside there was what looked like a cylindrical alien machine from one of his favourite K-dramas. Namjoon's imaginative mind started coming up with so many weird ideas of what might happen instead of just soul reading.
'What if they are trying to make me an alien and then send me to another planet? What if they are tryin to harvest some of my organs and then sell them to the demons for their feast? What if they are trying to make a clone of me like Dolly the sheep. Or what if...they have a situation going on and they have to sell someone's soul to the Devil and they are selling mine instead?!' Namjoon thought while they were putting a vest on Namjoon.
"Stop thinking about dumb scenarios. Your soul is being read, not sold!" Jin said from behind the glass wall that separated the soul reader and the workers. "How did you know?!" Namjoon yelled back. "I know you well enough to guess that you are making up stupid scenarios!" Namjoon just rolled his eyes.
At this point, it seemed like everything was ready. "Are you ok with me being here and seeing all your deeds and stuff?" Jin asked one last time. Because behind the glass wall there were huge monitors which will start showing up Namjoon's deeds and stuff as he got scanned. And these are some informations that no one wants other people to know about. So Jin was making sure that wasn't invading Joon's privacy.
"You are my BFF, of course, I am fine with you being there" Namjoon said and gave a small smile. The sentence warmed Jin's heart. "Ok, then!" "Sir, we will begin now. I am sure that you may start feeling slightly claustrophobic and then even feel nauseous but that's just the way it is. You don't have to worry about anything. We are here watching you." The worker said. Namjoon nodded and took in a long breath.
He spread his arms and legs like a start-fish because that was what he was instructed to do. Soon the lady pushed the button of the operator. The machine turned on and gave out an even more intense neon blue light. The cylindrical machine started moving round and round with Joon in it. The blue laser started painlessly stabbing through his body. It went up and down. Namjoon was getting nauseous from all the movements happening to his body.
Jin and the worker noticed that. "Sir, I think it will be good if you talk to him and distract him." She said. Jin nodded his head and went to the mic. "Hey, Hyung, follow what I say and just focus on my voice. First, close your eyes." Namjoon did what he was told. "Tell me, how many episodes are there in the Vincenzo K-drama?" It took a while for Namjoon to reply because his head was hurting like hell. "T-twenty" "Good! What is Vincenzo's full name?" "Vin...Vincenzo C-Cassano"
"That's right! What was your favourite game in Squid game?" "What was your favourite?" "Red light...green light. Jin noticed that Namjoon was slowly getting back in a normal state. But he continued asking questions about K-dramas because that's what Namjoon knew the best.
"What is one K-drama that involves time travelling?" Jin asked again. "Sisyphus" "Who is the captain of the special force in the K-drama called, Decedents of the Sun?" "Yoo Shi-jin!" Namjoon looked like he was completely stable now. Though, the machine was still going on and more info was coming up on the huge screens. "How are you feeling?" Jin asked. "I am feeling fine now. Also, you know a lot of K-dramas, don't you." "Of course! Because I have watched more than like 50 K-dramas with you." Jin said while shaking his head. "True!"
The whole process of the soul reading was soon finished and Namjoon was escorted back to the Chief's office. Now that they were back they were going through the reports of Namjoon. "After much calculations and technical analysis, the system and our professionals have resulted that you will be given the Ultra-high essence." Namjoon was confused. "So is that supposed to be good or something?"
"You see, there are 3 categories to essences. Lowest, moderate, and High. Each category has 3 essences. The lowest essence is the minor extreme slave essence and the highest one is the Superior essence. Extremely few people get the Superior essence. Your essence is just a level lower than the highest one." Namjoon's eyes widened.
"How in the world? I don't remember doing anything good." "Are you sure? Because you have counselled more than 20 people, saved a few them from committing suicide, and in general have been very understanding of everyone's feelings. You have also followed all the good things that everyone should be doing. And your suffering just adds up to it as well. Now, onto the rules." The lady brought a clipboard with papers.
"You are not allowed to brag about your essence. You are not allowed to do anything bad using your essence. The rules are basically the same ones that applied to you when you are on earth so I am sure that I don't need to explain too much on that one. Though, if you ever need to ask questions, then just go to your nearby help centre. There are a lot around.
But anyways, here is the main thing. You HAVE to sign this contract or you won't have the privilege to come here. According to your essence and deeds, you can come here whenever you want. But...you are not allowed to tell any living human being about this world. If we hear you talking about it to someone else on earth, then the emergency eavesdrop operation will be operated on you and the person you told.
Our agents will first immediately have to cast an amnesia spell on the other person so they forget everything you told them, and they have to bring you here and a lot of your good deeds will be taken." "Oh really?!" Namjoon asked with a little shock. "Yup! Now you have to sign right here on this agreement. This will mean that you will not be telling any human about this world and will follow all the rules that exist here."
Namjoon looked at the paper and nodded. "So do I like to have to sign with a pen or put a thumbprint?" "Oh no, Mr Kim, we have a different way for you to sign." "Oh? And what is that?" "By using your Blood" For a couple of seconds, it was total silence in the room. Namjoon was staring at the Chief with a blank face. After a while, he turned his face to Jin. "Are you sure that these guys aren't selling my soul to the Devil?!" He yelled. "How many times do I have to tell you that they are NOT selling your soul!?" "Then why the hell do I need to sign this agreement using my freaking BLOOD?!" "That's because in this world your identity doesn't really specify who you are except for your blood and essence. But your essence will only be activated after you sign this contract."
Namjoon sighed while rubbing his temples. "Please, do it for me!" Jin showed his best puppy eyes. Namjoon rolled his eyes. "Fine! But you owe me a big one!" "Of course!" Jin squealed as the other agreed. "We can bring a sharp pin if you want-" Before the lady could say anything, Namjoon bit his finger and dropped the blood that was pouring out, ontp the weird type of paper." "I hope this much is enough. Now can we go? I am hungry!"
