MY BIRTHDAY IS IN 7 DAYS! (sorry)
I WATCHED as the man stood up from his seat and made his way down the street. The girl next to me was, by no coincidence, called away and we said our goodbyes. I made sure to follow him at a leisurely pace, not looking at all suspicious as I entered into the Starbucks. Before finding a seat, I sent a quick message to my partners on this assignment telling them that the package was on the move.
The 32 year old brown-haired man I was currently stalking had something of great importance. Something that wasn't his. And I was going to help get it back.
I took out my pink Pentax K50 and stole a few quick shots of him as he sat down. Of course, only taking pictures of him would be too suspicious, so I ordered a cinnamon melt and walked around.
"Um, hi." I stopped in front of a group of three people. A man, a woman, and a six year old boy. This is just a guess, but they're probably a family. "I'm, uh, doing a project fo- for school, so do you mind if I maybe take a few pictures?" I asked shyly, looking down at my feet as I tugged on the cord attaching the camera to my neck.
"Well of course it's alright sweetie. You go right on ahead." The woman gave me a kind smile and I gratefully mirrored her action. If everybody was as nice as her, this assignment would be a cakewalk.
While walking around the restaurant taking pictures, I noticed that the target had begun texting, and I stood behind him in clear view of the screen, talking to a young couple.
As I spoke, I began to seemingly fiddle with my camera, when in reality I was zooming in on his phone to take pictures. He seemed to be about ready to leave, so I knew it was time to make my move.
"Excuse me. Sir?" I asked timidly after gently tapping him on the shoulder, tears brimming in my eyes. He glanced up at me curiously. Something in his eyes akin to pity. "M-my brother took me here with his friends so I could do my project. But now I can't find them anywhere and I don't know how to get home."
The first tear slipped from my eye as he glanced nervously towards the doorway.
"Please sir. Please help me please." I could tell he was torn between wanting to help and knowing he couldn't. Not because there was no solution to the situation I was in. No. That wasn't it at all. The problem was that there wasn't enough time to get where he needed to be and take me home. "I'm scared."
And that was all it took to make the cookie crumble. The point where he broke his resolve was obvious. We would've been good even if I hadn't started crying.
He was a good man, who just got chained to some bad people. I hope they go easy on him when deciding his fate.
I watched intently with a curious gaze as he grabbed his bag and threw away whatever was left of the coffee, and followed him as he walked towards the door. "So are you sure you can't find him?"
I nodded as he led me through the parking lot. It made sense that he would try to get out of it in whatever way possible, and would actually have been more suspicious if he didn't.
"Yeah. We were in Target. Over there." I pointed towards the store across the street. "And I got distracted because I was taking pictures of things I wanted instead of the stuff for my project. . ." I let out a nervous giggle at this point. "Um. Yeah." Insert the sheepish smile. "So anyways, when I turned around they were gone.
"So then I went to Starbucks because that's where they go sometimes, but they weren't there either. So what's your name?" I finished, summing it all up with an abrupt subject change.
He sighed in defeat. Knowing that there was both no way to back out of the commitment he had made and that there was no way to get me to stay on one topic for very long. I think he had a little sister? But I'm not sure. I wasn't given much information on his profile.
"Mitchell." He hung his head. This was good. Now I could stop referring to him as him all the time. "Cool, now you can have a name in my head!" I cheered, doing a little fist pump which caused him to give a slight smile.
"Okay. Well if you don't know how to get home, how am I going to take you there?" This brought me back to the mission. Which had somehow managed to get lost in the forgotten memories drawer that is my mind.
I honestly don't even know they accepted me. I mean sure, I can act. But so what? Put me on T.V. And sure I'm smart. But that's just because I'm not an idiot. And sure I can fight. But that's just because I was taught well.
Right. Back to the conversation.
"Um. I didn't think of that." I murmured, staring at the ground. I stopped walking and to think for a moment. "Oh!" I perked up. Excited at the prospect of finding a way home. "I know the adress! So then you can find out where it is and take me home."
Mitchell looked over when he learned the adress. Seemingly unhappy.
"But that's far!" He whined. I giggled. It was fun watching a grown man act like a child. "Well I walked. And I have shorter legs than you. So I'm sure you can make it."
We talked for most of the way there before lapsing into a gentle silence. It wasn't long before I started complaing about being tired. The adress I gave him was almost 30 minutes away, and we had been walking for five. But somehow I managed to get him to carry me. Sucks for him, but I had been standing for hours.
By the time we finally made it to the house, I was pretty much asleep and Mitchell seemed really tired of carrying me. But he hadn't said anything about it, so neither did I.
"Look! There it is!" I exclaimed, pointing to the familiar house as I sat up straighter on his back. When we got a little bit closer, I hopped off and ran towards the building.
Halfway there I remembered Mitchell and turned back around. He was just standing there watching me. You know. Not creepy at all. So I ran back towards him and gave him a hug.
He stood in shock for a moment before gingerly hugging me back. "Thank you, Mitchell."
And with that, I ran back home.
Unlocking the door with my key, I grabbed my laptop and hopped onto the couch. By the time I pulled up the cameras, Mitchell already had the files out and was staring at them guiltily. It was pretty sad, that while he was in that state of remorse, the rest of my team came out.
That was when I heard the familiar line. You know it. The one I never get to say. Yeah. That one.
"FBI. You're under arrest."

YAYYAYYAYYAYYAYYAYYAYYAY❗ It's finally DDOOOONNNEEEE!!!
Well you guys. This took me FOREVER. But I'm done now so HOORAY! I mean, it actually only took me about a week. But still. It's done and I am happy.
I mean. This story was supposed to be about something completely different. And be a fanfiction. It even had a different title! But I changed it halway through so this will hopefully be my first REAL story.
Which means
No author's notes unless it's important (which it usually isn't)
Better written (hopefully)
Edited (I'll try)
Will actually follow some sort of storyline (maybe)
So YAY! And since I can't do author's notes like this after the prolouge (which is this) I will fill you in on my life that you don't care about. Okay. First off. I'm in the school play! (As a townsperson) It's the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. There's some really low-key murder in there. It's like'all we found was his hat' and then wedding scene amd then we talk and make jokes about his death (right after the wedding) and then 'HAPPY DAY!' So being cast means I get a costume and I can make people do my hair and makeup for me because I suck at that and we've been practicing since September but we start actually performing next Thursday (three day's after my BIRTHDAY(which no I don't get to have my archery party))
And since the last performance is on the 30th the cast party will be a costume party (first of both for me! Hehe... I have no life)
Oh! And I'm in ITS so I'm doing Halloween Hoot at Dinosaur Hill (hall?) On the 17th. And for our skit we're doing a thing where Hansel and Gretel are having a party and a bunch of fairy tale characters come (I'm probably a wolf) but they're all worried about the witch coming to steal candy. So then the witch come by and takes candy from the bucket twice but we don't see her because we're stupid. And the third time we catch her but it turns out she was actually the tooth fairy (when I told my 7 year old cousing that she was like WHAT! It was hilarious) So then the tooth fairy says that she will give the audience candy but only if they promise to brush their teeth. Because we're performing this for little kids.
Well. That's really all for now except yeah. No super long author's notes after this one except maybe intermissions.
Okay gotta edit.
BUH BYE!!!
