Dust in the Wind
"Mommy, I want to give you you're mother's day gift!" Little Chloe yelled. Her mother, Melane, was getting ready for the day. She had striking red hair and lovely blue eyes.
"Don't worry Chloe, I'm almost ready. Remember, I have a lunch date with some people. They are going to help me plan your birthday." Melane walked out of the bathroom looking lavish, as usual. She smiled and walked over to Chloe.
"My little baby's turning five." She said. Chloe smiled at her, stars in her eyes. Then she looked down at her gift. She felt a little silly. Her mother was one of the most well known women in Paris. Her mother would want something more expensive than a homemade gift.
"Here. I made it at school for you. I hope you like it." Chloe handed the poorly wrapped gift to her mother. She had made it with her babysitter, who she considered was a school teacher. She looked at her mother, who seemed to have a forced smile.
"I love it honey." Melane said. Her words were lies, of course. Who would like a homemade card and potholder? Not Melane. She still didn't want her daughter to know that. She loved to see the oblivious smile on her face. Chloe was small, she wouldn't know. Not a single thing. Not why her mom was always glowing, or why her dad always tired. Hopefully, in the future, it would all be just dust. Dust in the wind. Far, far away.
