Chapter 30 | Cameron
I think I can honestly say this was the best weekend I've ever had. A weekend away with my two favorite boys was all I could've ever asked for.
Hayden and Asher completely rocked my entire world. I don't think I've ever laughed, smiled, or come as hard as I did this weekend.
I haven't stopped smiling since this weekend has begun. Just to think that this will be a daily experience in our new house together excites me to no end. This is my reality. How wild is that!?
The drive back home was also fun. Hayden let me put on my playlist, and I had fun rocking out in the front seat to Tate McRae and Harry Styles.
I like Hayden even more when he's all lusted up. He's all lenient and less "get the hell out of here". It's nice.
We had to drop off Asher at his house sadly, since he had to leave for work. Saying goodbye sucks but he assured as he'd come over after work.
I pull into the driveway of our house and an unsettling feeling lingers in my gut. My parent's car is waiting in the driveway. They're almost never
"Should we just go? I don't feel like dealing with this right now." I huff, preparing myself to back out of the driveway.
Hayden places his hand over mine on the steering wheel.
"No, we should do this. Let's just...rip off the bandaid." He shrugs.
I nod my head. I know he's right. They're still our parents after all.
We take our time picking up our duffle bags from the trunk and carrying our belongings into the house.
"Oh, that must be them. Children! Children, come in here please." Mom's voice echoes through the hallway as we step inside.
I look at Hayden and sigh when I see his already defeated gaze staring back at me. There goes my plan of just slipping in and out.
We walk over to the living room and see Mom and Dad sitting there. Dad has his glasses on his nose, looking as stern as ever while Mom looks nervous. She's fiddling with her hands in her lap and I can tell that they've been waiting for us to get home.
"We hoped we'd see you. Both of you. Please, sit. We need to talk." She gestures to the couch across from her.
I swallow harshly and look over at Hayden. He shrugs his shoulders at me. I nod my head taking that as a "let's hear them out" shrug and walk over to the couch where he sits beside me.
Mom takes in a big breath. "First off. Let's just get it out of the way - yes, I know you two spent money on the family credit card and bought yourselves a weekend at The Pier. Fair enough, you were mad at us and needed to get away, we get it. We're not angry." She exhales.
My eyebrows coax up. Do they forgive us for skipping town and charging their card? What's the catch? I look over at Dad who still hasn't said anything.
"Okay..." I mutter.
Mom looks over at my Dad and they share a concerning look until she turns back to us. "Your Father and I have been speaking a lot about what you told us Cameron about your future. We know you want to...become a veterinarian and we understand." She sighs. My eyebrows shoot up. Seriously? Will it be that easy?
Hayden tenses beside me.
"I don't understand. Why would you accept that? Hayden simply wanted to start school a month later than me and you two were giving him hell." I huff.
Mom purses her lips. "Hayden also didn't take his schooling as seriously as you did which resulted in him not having the choice." She leans back in her seat.
"What your mother is trying to say is we're okay if you want to pursue your doctorate degree, however, you choose." Dad finally spoke up. I turn my attention to him as he slides his glasses off and cleans off the lenses with his sweater. "We'll continue to pay for your life. Your bills. Your car. Everything you love."
"As long as..." I breathe.
"As long as you cut your brother off. For good."
I burst out in laughter. "Oh, Jesus. You two still don't get it." I look at the ground. "I'm actually not even shocked." I shake my head.
"What the hell is wrong with you two?" Hayden asks beside us.
"Watch your tone with us, Hayden. You've been nothing but trouble since you were younger and now you're dragging your brother down with you." Mom says shaking her finger at him.
"No, I'm done," I say getting up.
"Cameron–" Dad starts.
"No. You pretend that you're so smart but you don't recognize or understand anything. You don't know me and you definitely don't know Hayden. If you did, you'd know that he's my other half. My everything. What don't you get about that?" I tug on Hayden's arm for him to stand up.
"And honestly, I feel bad for you both. You've never gotten to know Hayden like I do and now you never will which sucks for you. Good fucking job."
"Cameron! Stop, son. We're sorry." Mom rushes after us.
"Too late. Now you've lost us both. Congratu-fucking-lations." I run up the stairs. "Hayd, grab what you can. We're not staying here. Not anymore. Not ever again." I bite.
I rush into my room and grab everything that matters the most to me. Which I realize isn't really anything except for some clothes and textbooks. Hayden and Asher mean everything to me. That's all I need. That's all I've ever needed.
Hayden rummages around in his room and I know he's grabbing what he can.
We both rush out of our rooms and meet in the center of the hall. He's carrying his notebooks tucked under his arm, a duffel bag thrown across his body full of clothes, and his guitar cases in both of his hands.
I nod my head. "Good. You good with this?" I breathe.
His expression softens as he looks at me. "I'm so good...thank you. Thank you so much, Sunshine for not leaving me." I can tell from his glossy eyes that he's holding back tears.
I step over to him and lean my head on his forehead. He closes his eyes and breathes in deeply.
"I will never. Till the end of the world, big brother," I whisper.
He closes his eyes and breathes in deeply. "Till the end of the world, baby brother."
I snag a quick kiss off his lips, pulling a small smile from his lips.
"Let's get out of here," I say turning to walk out the door with my love following close behind me.
A/N: Needed to happen. BYE toxic parents that don't know how amazing Hayden is. We won't miss ya!
