Chapter 25

*Location- Rooftop in Queens*

-Third Person P.O.V-

Peter sat on the roof, deciding to ignore his senses. He knew he wasn't in danger, and if he was going to be honest, even if there was danger coming right for him, he doubted he would have the strength to fight back.

He really shouldn't have gone patrolling the more he thinks about it. Every breath seems to now burn with a vengeance and every bruise on his body throbs in time with his heart. Peter could feel the blood slowly making its way down his face, making him feel just as he did when he had woken up the first time from Mays beating.

As whoever approached grew closer, his senses rung more and more. It wasn't screaming at him to put his mask back on, or get ready to fight. It was more like it was just warning him of whatever it was that was growing closer to him.

Peter had a bit of an idea of who it may be, well, there were two people it could be, but he thought it might be one more than the other.

The thought that it might be both made Peter want to run, having a strange, horrible feeling coil in his stomach that he couldn't shake. If it was both of them- then oh God, this was bad. A sharp pain shot through him, as though it were mocking him and reminding him of the state he was in and the whole reason he had yet to see either of them.

His thoughts were abruptly cut off when someone hauled themselves over the lip of the roof. It didn't take Peter more than a second to recognise who it was, and a small smile tugged on his lips as he saw his brother rise from the ground.

"Peter, jeez Kid what happened?" Bucky voiced as he quickly moved towards were Peter was sitting. To say he was shocked at how Peter looked would be an understatement, he knew the kid would probably a little roughed up (it was sadly becoming normal for Bucky to see him like his), but this- this was a whole lot worse than a 'little.'

Peter only smiled at his brother, albeit it was very strained. He was more than happy to see his bother there, and even more so when he saw all the other rouges pull themselves over the edge of the roof. He could see all their faces change when they saw him, but for the moment Peter didn't really care.

As much as he knew Bucky hated showing any form of emotion in front of anyone aside from Peter (and Steve), Peter moved forward a little, wanting more than anything to hug his brother. Before Peter could even move an inch though, Bucky was already there, kneeling in front of him and pulling him into a hug.

"Hi Bucky," Peter mumbled, as he leant into his older brother, happy to see he had brought his hoodie with him- sorry, Buckys hoodie.

Bucky carefully wrapped his arms around Peter, he held him as tightly as he dared. "Hey Pete, you doing okay?" Bucky asked quietly, worry making it's way through his body.

They could both hear the other behind them both, and were grateful when they kept their distance for a moment. However, what caught their attention was the sound of metal landing heavily against the ground.

Peter couldn't reply before Bucky was pulling away, standing in front of Peter with a protective look. Tony also hold the same look, electing to ignore the people behind him and instead focus on the two in front of him, he mask was down, showing the worry and anger on his face.

"Get the fuck away from Peter," Tony growled, moving towards Bucky.

Tony was more than shocked to see the rouges with Peter, worry that they were hurting him or forcing him to show his identity took over and all he knew was that he needed to protect the person who was like a son to him.

"And why would I do that," Bucky spoke back, his voice just as intimidating and angry. The others were all stood on alert, ready for the attack.

Tony responded but Peter couldn't hear a word he said.

This couldn't be happening, it couldn't. Because if it was happening, it meant Peter was about to lose everything. He had never wanted this to happen, but he knew he was playing with fire and was bound to get burnt. As soon as they came together, it would be a mess, Peter knew they had trusted him and he had all but chucked it back in their faces.

Every breath was short and ragged, his body throbbed in pain and his thoughts began to spiral.

'They're going to leave you.'

'You broke all their trust. They'll never like you now.'

'You'll be alone again.'

'May was right, you don't deserve any form of love or kindness.'

'You should have just died from that beating.'

Oh God, Peter couldn't breathe.

Tony was about to respond, his fists ready to make contact as he and Bucky moved closer. He was quickly broken from his spell when he heard Steve speak.

"Peter?" His voice was strained and worried, making both Bucky and Tony turn towards where Peter was.

Their hearts shattered when they saw him struggling to breath, his eyes screwed shut and tears falling down his face in obvious pain. Before Tony could react, Bucky was beside him, gently pulling him into his chest, Tony was about to shout at him and pull him away, not wanting him anywhere near him, but when he saw Peter lean into Bucky he decided against it, instead, going beside him to join the pair.

"Peter, listen to my voice okay, you're okay, everything's okay," Bucky spoke softly, shocking Tony to the core.

Tony had never seen Bucky like this, he had always known him as being rough, someone who doesn't like being touched, or showing any form of emotion. And yet, as he looks at him with Peter he can see just how different he is with him.

Bucky doesn't push Tony away as he moves closer to the pair, it seemed as though Peter knew Tony just as well as he knew Bucky, and he wasn't about to upset Peter more by pushing Tony away (Bucky also know Tony wouldn't let him, not with how protective he was looking at Peter).

"FRI, scan him," Tony commented as he knelt beside the super soldier, placing a careful hand on Peters shoulder as Bucky held him closer. Tony was more than relieved when he saw Peter didn't flinch, Bucky didn't even look his way, just continued to hold Peter and whisper reassurances to him.

Peter knew they would hate him.

This couldn't be happening, he couldn't lose his family. They were the only people he had left. He knew it was so God damn selfish, but he was finally feeling what it was like to have a family (more than just when he had Ben) and he didn't want to lose that. But now, it was all coming together in one big mess.

"I'm- I'm sorry. I'm so- I'm so sorry," Peter continued to repeat, his mind coming up with all the anger that is about to be thrown his way from everyone.

While FRIDAY responded to Tony, reporting all the injuries Peter had, Bucky was quick to support Peter and ensure he was okay. "Peter, kid, you have nothing to be sorry for, everything is okay," Bucky reassured him, being careful to pull him into his arms.

Peter, at first flinched at the contact, but after a moment, he relaxed against his brother, for the moment trying not to think about the repercussions about what had just come to pass.

"I'm sorry," Peter whispered before practically collapsing in his brothers arms, everything was in pain and he knew it was a bad idea deciding to come patrol today.

Bucky was careful when he held Peter a little tighter in his grip, not wanting to hurt his brother more than he already was.

Tony sucked in a breath after hearing FRI reel off all the injuries Peter had. "Jesus kid, what happened to you?" Tony wondered, looking at the boy who was now hugging Bucky tightly, Tony had to stop for a moment when he saw that, he had never seen Bucky like that, and knowing that the pair already knew each other made Tony more than a little confused.

Peter heard what Tony said and leaned heavier into Bucky, knowing that lying about this one would be more than hard. He could also hear the others in the background, talking quietly between one and another, he heard his name being dropped many times, and if he really wanted to he could listen in to what they were saying, but honestly, he had no strength right now and he honestly thought he was going pass out soon.

"We need to get him to a hospital," Bucky grumbled, his voice rough and angered. As much as Peter didn't want to, he was unable to stop the flinch at the tone of voice, scared that his brother was annoyed at him.

A whimper fell from Peters lips and he tried to pull away from Bucky, his mind flashing with the thought of the anger that was about to be shot towards him. He couldn't- he couldn't deal with that right now- he couldn't deal with the anger, disappointment and the fists about to be swung his way.

Bucky, instead of doing any of that, carefully pulled Peter closer to him, rubbing his hand up and down Peters back carefully. "Pete, I'm not angry at you at all. I promise you, you're okay, you're safe with us," Bucky mumbled quietly.

Peter wasn't sure. He really, really wasn't sure if he could believe this, but he really, really, wanted to.

"Promise Buck. Promise you're not- promise you're not angry," Peter whispered, his voice was quiet and full of pain.

Bucky honestly thought he might cry hearing his brother say that to him. Bucky glanced up at Tony and saw the same look on his face. He could tell the man was just as shocked as Bucky was, and glancing even further back, he could see the other Avengers look just as sad and upset about this whole ordeal.

"I promise Peter, we all promise. You're safe with us, you're safe," Bucky whispered back, thankful as Peter relaxes back into his arms.

"Pete, Buckys" Tony seethes the name out, although he would be lying if he said he was that angry at the man anymore, "Is right. We got to get you to the hospital, but we can take you to the tower and to the med-bay," Tony explained, still very conscious of the injuries Peter has.

Tony didn't even dare look back, he might be holding it back now for Peter, but he was pissed. Having Steve and the others so close to him was making his fight or flight kick in, and it was taking everything in him not to lash out at the Captain in anger, hurt and betrayal.

Steve watched from afar, knowing, even if he was friendly with Peter, he had no right to be there and try to take over. It was obvious Tony knew Peter well, and Peter knew Tony well as well. Even though Tony wasn't saying anything, he could tell he was tense, he knew it was because of himself and the others, but he didn't dare try and talk to Tony right now, not when it was obvious Peter wasn't okay and needed Bucky and Tony tight now.

"M'fine though," Peter whispered, he knew it wasn't true, but he didn't want to have to burden everyone with the truth. He also didn't want to have to try and explain what had happened, he was so tired of lying to the people he cared about and he couldn't stand the thought of them hating him for that.

"Kid, you're not okay. Hell, FRIDAY has just reeled off every injury and there is no way you aren't going to the hospital. I promise everything will be okay, I'll be right there. And- and if you want, Bucky and the others will as well," the last sentence uttered out of Tonys mouth was more than forced and laced with resentment, but he knew if it meant Peter was more at peace and happy, then he would allow it.

Not only that, but he knew he needed to try and fix all of the issues between himself and the Avengers, before Ross found out that he was talking to the rouges and not throwing them in the raft with no second thought. And now, with having Peter here, and seeming to be friendly with them (especially Bucky), he knew now if he were to allow them to be chucked into the raft it would tear Peter apart and more than likely make him hate Tony.

Peter glanced up from where his head was resting on Buckys chest and looked at Tony in tired hope. "Promise they can stay," Peter whispered, he knew he was asking a lot from all of them, but he was so tired, and all he wanted was for his family to be there right now.

"I promise Peter," Tony breathed, knowing it will be a hard promise to keep, but something he will be willing to try and keep from breaking. He didn't want to think about how upset it might make Peter to see from the looks of it, someone he sees as his brother being taken away.

"How are we going to do this then?" Bucky spoke, only glancing up momentarily to Tony before looking back at Peter.

"I can carry him and fly back and meet you there," Tony spoke, already allowing the suit to coil around him again, leaving his mask down.

Bucky knew it was the only realistic option. But that still didn't mean that he was happy about it. "I swear to God Stark, you better let us in when we get there," Bucky growled, unable to stop himself from believing that Tony won't just take Peter from him and not let them in at the tower.

Tony glared at the man before replying, "I won't, Barnes."

Peter whimpered at the sound of their angry voices and curled into Bucky a little more. This snapped the pair from their angered stares and comments and made the both of them shut up. With a resigned sigh, Tony spoke up again, "I promise I'll let you all in when you get there."

Bucky could hear how serious he was and decided to let it go, he knew even if Stark- Tony, didn't let him in, he would find a way in. There was no way he was going to leave his brother when he was like this.

"Okay, okay," Bucky mumbled, hugging Peter a little tighter before he slowly let Peter go.

Peter was unable to stop the whimper from falling from his lips, he didn't want his brother to leave him alone. He had barely been paying attention to what was being said around him, only the odd word here or there and he didn't want really comprehend what it was that was going on around him. The only thing he did know, was that his brother was pulling away from hm and leaving him alone, along to face the world and the hatred and the constant beatings that constantly happen to him.

"Pete, it's okay. Tony's going to take you back to the tower and to the med bay, and me and the others will be there before you even know it. I promise."

Peter sighed, but he knew he wasn't lying. Peter just wanted to sleep now. Every second the pain increases and he remembers how God damn stupid it was for him to have left his bed today. He really had thought he would be okay, what with his healing and such, but it really was the complete opposite right now.

Tony came forward after that and Bucky carefully allowed for Tony to take Peter from him. Part of him wanted to keep him right there, but he knew Tony had good intentions for Peter and wanted nothing else other than to help him, and Peter needed up right now for sure.

"I'll see you before you know it Pete, we all will," Bucky spoke as Tony carefully pulled him into his arms.

Peter tiredly hummed, his eyes slipping closed, knowing with everyone here he would be safe. He could feel the wind whipping through his hair as he allowed his mind to fall into darkness, knowing now he would be able to sleep peacefully and without the fear of May coming to hurt him.

Bucky watched as Peter and Tony left, he could feel his heart beat increase with every second that went by, seeing his little brother get further and further away.

"Bucky, let's go, it'll be okay," Steve voiced, placing a careful hand on Buckys shoulder as he does so.

Bucky snaps himself out of it, knowing the longer he stands here the longer it would take to get back to Peter and know he was safe. "Okay, let's- let's go," Bucky mumbled before moving quickly.

They all begun to walk towards the tower, hiding in the shadows. They planned to go in the back way, it was something not a lot of people knew about, but Tony had old them about ages ago, and had told them if they ever were to need to use it, then to go in the back way in order not to be seen.

Everyone's anxiety was high when they finally make it to the tower. Worried that FRIDAY won't let them in.

However, as soon as they get there, the door slides open.

'Welcome back, Mr Stark has said you can go up to the med-bay, Peter is currently being seen by Doctor Cho,' FRIDAY voices as soon as they are all in.

A sigh of relief slips from all their lips as they make their way up to the med-bay.

"Barnes, he'll be okay, calm down," Natasha spoke, looking at Bucky with a knowing look.

All Bucky could do was nod, knowing every step he took was closer to getting to his little brother and being able to help him.

What the fuck happened to his brother.
