"Adira, honey, it's time to get up. We wouldn't want you to be late for your first day of school." She heard her mother say through the door of her bedroom.

"Coming, Mom," she said, getting up and pulling on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt she had picked out the night before.

She hadn't hardly slept the night before. Too nervous, she concluded.

"There are eggs in the kitchen," her mom said as she walked past her towards the bathroom to brush her teeth and do something with her unruly brown curls.

She stared at herself in the mirror. Her hair was sticking out at all weird angles and she has circles under her eyes.

She sighed before grabbing a brush from the drawer and attempting to calm her crazy locks.

At last, she had gotten her hair to the point where it was at least manageable. She stole one last look at her reflection in the mirror before heading downstairs.

"How many eggs, dear?" her mother said cheerfully, making Adira wonder what was up with her.

"I'll have cereal," she said before opening the cupboard and grabbing the box of Frosted Flakes.

"Alright," her mom said while pouring herself a glass of orange juice. "We leave in 15 minutes."

Adira scarfed down the entire bowl of cereal before setting it into the sink and running warm water over it.

"Time to go, sweet!" Her mother shouted from the other room, grabbing her keys.

Adira sighed, grabbing her bag and trudging out the door towards the car.

"Here is fine," she said to her mom when they pulled up to the building.

"Alright, sweetie, have a great day, if you need to ask the big kids where things are"

Adira sighed, jumping out of the car. Her gaze traveled to the looming building in front of her. It was huge! How did they expect her to find her way around there!?

Adira walked slowly towards the large doors of the school, stopping when she heard a voice.

"Hey, Adira! It's me, Kenzi! You know, from camp?" A tall redhead walked towards her, smiling.

"Oh. Hi, Kenzi," Adira said, relieved that she had been found by someone she knew rather than asking complete strangers for directions.

"So what do you have first period?" Kenzi asked, waving at a tall brunette who walked by.

"Math...." Adira said half-heartedly. Her gaze had fallen onto a cute blondie walking by. "Who's he?" She asked, motioning to the boy.

"Oh him. That's Josh," Kenzi said, smiling eviliy. "Why? Do you think he's cute?" Kenzi said, raising her eyebrows.

Adira blushed, looking down.

"Oh my gosh! You do!" Kenzi squealed before dragging her towards the lockers.

"Here is your locker." Kenzi said proudly.

"How did you know my number...?" Adira was looking at Kenzi in confusion.

"Oh. It was on your paper," she said, nodding to the paper in her hand."Go up that hallway and the third door to the left is your math class. Good luck. I've got Science first period," Kenzi said walking off.
