13-I Didn't Know Hypocrites Could Be Motivational Speakers

Chapter Thirteen
I Didn't Know Hypocrites Could Be Motivational Speakers

"You've got everything?" Drew asked me again.

"Yes," I let out an aspirated sigh, "you don't need to baby me. I'm sixteen," I reminded him.

"I just want to make sure my baby sister has everything," he defended, obviously ignoring my baby comment.

"For school?" I asked with a chuckle, "dude, you do this everyday."

He waved away my last statement. "Well, if you need anything—"

"You're only a phone call away," I finished his sentence. "Yeah, I know." I rolled my eyes.

"Can you guys do this when I'm not here?" Audrey asked from the backseat.

"Yeah Drew, could we maybe not do this anywhere at all, actually?" I asked him.

"Nah," he smirked and wiggled his eyebrows at my friend, "she's already seen it all. Literally."

Audrey's eyes widened and I clamped my hands to my ears.

"Lalalalalalalalalala," I sang, "I don't want to hear about either of you guys' sex life!"

I quickly grabbed my bag and ran out of the car and slammed the door behind me, Audrey calling for me to wait up.

Soon I slowed down enough for her to catch up, and I narrowed my eyes at her.

"What?" She asked with a semi-smile.

"'Ya nasty," I told her and forced a shiver.

She laughed at my response. "I'll admit, what your dumbass brother said was completely uncalled for."

"Yeah," I made a gaging sound. "Now I have an image in my head that I can't un-see."

She shook her head at me and smiled, meanwhile I was choking on my own bile.

In the hall there was a big group of students, —mostly girls— screaming and jumping up and down. Audrey and I tried to get push past them, but they would only push us away.

Suddenly, my eyes widened at the terrifyingly familiar voice.

"Girls, calm down, there's only one of me," Satan joked.

I shared a look with Audrey. I had to get out of here before he saw me and made my life a living hell.

"Hold on—Skylar?" I froze in my spot and cringed. He saw me and now he was going to ruin me.

I turned around to see a smirking so-called 'Superhero,' the one and only Gold Cape in the midst of signing autographs, meanwhile all his fan girls eyed me with disgust.

"Did you get home safely after I saved you last night?" He teased me.

That lying, cocky, egotistical, horribly horrid, mean, cowardly sun-of-a-gun and horndog-y ex-boyfriend!

"I wish I could be saved my Gold Cape," one girl awed and the others awed in agreement.

"Did Gone Girl help you?" Another girl asked him and I mentally applauded her. Girl Power!

"No," he hesitated, "She was, uh, too busy."

Every girl nodded and then made some kind of mad or insulting remark while Grayson —sorry,— Gold Cape nodded in agreement.

"I bet she doesn't even have real powers," One girl remarked.

"Yeah, she's probably only using Gold Cape for his fame." Another added.

I could feel my blood starting to boil. How dare they insult me alter-ego!

"I don't think you should be insulting someone who isn't here to defend them self," I interjected and crossed my arms as I glared at all of them, my jaw clenched.

One girl crossed her arms. "I think she knows where she stands."

Literally a foot away from you, dumbass.

I sent Audrey a look for help and I think she knew what was going on because she stepped closer into the war zone.

"Dude," she called to Gold Cape, "your fly's down."

Gold Cape, along with all his fan girls, looked down to see if his fly was actually down meanwhile Audrey roughly grabbed my arm and we ran away.

"I'm wearing spandex you moron!" We could hear him shout as his voice echoed down the hall, along with the voices of his fans.

"If I'm the moron then why'd you look down?" Audrey called over her shoulder as we turned a corner and slowed down.

We bursted into laughter. "This is why you're my best friend!" I told her as I clinged to her arm.

Mrs. Jeffery had sent the whole class outside so that we could mingle around with our groups and check out all the other art pieces and try to decipher the message behind them.

Personally, as an art lover, I thought the idea seemed quite fun, especially since I get to hear the thoughts of my classmates. But the boys thought otherwise.

At the moment, we stood in front of brick wall as we watched the colours on the wall, as if we were waiting for something to happen.

"What's that supposed to be?" Sam asked us, scrunching up his nose.

We all skimmed it again. "A UFO, obviously," I remarked as I gestured to the grey disk in the night sky.

"If it's a UFO then why is it peeing?" Owen slouched and glowered while he crossed his arms in a childish manner.

"It's not peeing, you idiot," Noah commented with a scoff, "it's abducting the Statue of Liberty."

"But why?" Owen whined. "It makes no sense."

"Your face makes no sense," Sam retorted and snapped his fingers.

"My face makes no sense?" Owen exclaimed with a horrified expression, "You're so ugly, when you were born the doctor slapped 'yo mama."

I clamped my hand over my mouth to stifle a laugh but failed, leaving Noah and I in fits of laughter.

"Guys," Noah choked, "I think what the artists were trying to say is that the aliens don't want us, but rather what is precious in our world."

I took in his words. I guess that made sense in a way. Personally I don't think there's always one moral. The artist could have painted the piece as one thing, while someone percepts it as another. It's really all about perspective.

Mrs. Jeffrey's whistle blew, and we all spun around to see her standing in the middle of the poorly maintained soccer field, waving us over to her.

Us and all of our classmates jogged to the centre of the field. We all crowded around her as she waited for us all to quiet down.

"Principle Moore has requested a school assembly," Our teacher said as she eyed us all. "So if we could all please get into a line so that we can head straight to the auditorium, that would be great."

She turned on her heels and started walking back towards the building, while we all followed after her, not one of us bothering to get into a line as per usual. At least she's not like Mr. Miles. He basically forces us into a straight line and every time we fall out he'll scold us all for being first graders.

We entered our oh-so joyful school— note the sarcasm —and trailed down the hallway, one after the other as we joined our peers.

Suddenly I fell to the ground to due to the amount of weight that was just dropped on my ever-so weak back.

"Hellos there, friend!" My idiot of a best friend's voice rang through my ears as I struggled to get back up, my wonderful and caring classmates walking over me.

"Let me help 'ya," Audrey grinned and grabbed my hand in hers as she forcefully yanked me back up to my feet.

"What the heck was that for?" I whined and shoved her shoulder.

"Oh, I'm just happy," she cooed and jumped up and down.

"About what?" I questioned as we resumed our adventure down the crowded hall.

"I get to miss Science!" She sang to me, skipping further down the hall, adding a small twirl as she went. I laughed at her behaviour and jogged to catch up to my friend.

When entered the auditorium along with the rest of the students and took a spot in the middle of the pack.

All conversations came to a halt once Mr. Moore stepped up to the stage. He waited patiently for the rest of the room to fall silent.

Once it did, he opened his mouth to speak, a grin plastered on him pale face.

"Good morning," he said into the microphone, " a dear hero of King's Town has agreed to join us today."

My eyes widened. Nonononono this was the call for my ultimate doom.

"Please help my give a warm welcome to Gold Cape," the room boomed with an applause.

The Super with the idiotic cape strode onto the stage and the cheers got louder. The devil smiled at the girls who were screaming their asses off, jumping from one foot to the the other.

"So that's why he was here this morning," Audrey realized as she narrowed her eyes at the boy.

"Thank you," Gold Cape said and the voices slowly started to fade. "I'm so glad I can be here today. Your wonderful principle here—" he motioned in the direction of Mr. Moore. "Has asked me to come speak to you all, so here I am."

"There are three things I want to talk about with you," Gold continued, "One; courage. Two; trust. Three; honesty."

Was he for real? Was he for real?

"All things you don't have," I growled low enough so that only the people around me could hear, earning me dirty looks.

Audrey leaned over to whisper in my ear. "I didn't know hypocrites could be motivational speakers," she scowled and eyed him distastefully.

"I guess they can now," I replied with an eye roll.

"Courage," Grayson took a step to the right of the stage. "Is what makes a true Super. Courage, is what guides you through your hardest days and deepest fears. Courage is what gets you through your everyday life."

Gold Cape took a dramatic pause and smiled at the crowed. I think I heard a few girls swoon.

"About a year ago, we had an earthquake," I could spot a few students nod in agreement as he continued, "That earthquake caused one citizen to fly off the top off the terrace of King's Tower, leaving him hanging onto the rail for dear life."

I remembered that day. I was in school, obviously so was Grayson. Everyone felt the earthquake, but right afterwards, that's when we felt the trouble - on the top of King's Tower, the tallest tower in the city. Grayson was first out the door, -curse super speed- along with many other Supers, I presume.

"In the few seconds that the Supers weren't there in the presence of everyone watching, there was fear. So much fear. But Simon Urie," he addressed the guy who was hanging off the tower, "had no fear. He had courage. He was calm enough to pull himself back up without any help. He saved himself."

There was a small applause and a series of whistles that echoed throughout the room.

"That's courage. But it's not just the obvious acts, it's also the small ones. The small acts of kindness. That takes courage too." He smiled again.

"Trust," He sighed and looked down.

"I have people who trust me," He said while his eyes skimmed the crowd. "Others who don't." His eyes landed on mine.

I looked away and crossed my arms.

"Someone can only trust you if you give them a reason to. Someone can't trust you if you give them a reason not to." His face shifted into a frown.

"Sure, yeah, I'm a Superhero," He shrugged, "But I still screw up."

He pursed his lips for a moment, his eyes sparkled like he was deep in thought.

"I'm not always a Super," He says, "I am also human, with a human life. And in that human life I have a girlfriend."

I sucked in a breath. Is he going where I think he's going with this? He better not be.

Whispers about 'he has a girlfriend?' and 'I wish it was me' traveled through the audience.

"Uh, long story short, I screwed up. Big time," He bit his lip and looked down with regret, "I betrayed her trust, and I think you can all figure out what that means."

Most people gasped, including me.

He was admitting his mistakes? He was admitting to cheating? In front of a public audience? I thought he would have cared about his ego.

"Shit just got real," Audrey nudged me.

"I know what you're thinking, and that's okay. I'm not as good of a person as you thought I was," He shrugged, "and I lost her trust. That's all on me. So please, I advise you very much to not do what I did, because It will put you in a very bad situation." He gave me a sad look, "especially with her."

I could feel Audrey shaking so I try turned to see her clutching her stomach, trying not to laugh. Bitch.

Even though people were talking about what he just said, he continued talking.

"Honesty," he put on a small smile, "Following what I just said, I was honest about it. But unfortunately I wasn't the one to tell her what I did. Another other guy was."

I heard a few guys from my class snicker behind me, calling him pathetic.

"One of my many mistakes." He nodded and pursed his lips. "So moral of that story is if you're keeping something from someone then you should tell them or someone else will."

"Moving on," he let out a small laugh, "I decided to speak about these things because they are important in life, and those things will help you get through your day." He nodded his head and waved. "Thank you."

People erupted into cheers, and rushed to the stage for an autograph as he walked away. Except me.

Instead I rushed out into the hall where it was quiet. Or at least quieter than inside the auditorium.

I let out a long breath and leaned against the wall as I placed my hands in my heads.

Did he seriously have to speak publicly about that? I mean, sure, they don't know my name, but they know that Gold Cape is dating Gone Girl, so I feel as if his tiny speech was almost like a small glimpse into our personal life.

But at the same time I don't know how to feel. He looked like he regretted what he did. He sure spoke like he did.

But the way he behaved when Static told me confuses me. Yes he was honest about it but he acted as if it was nothing when it was everything to me. He betrayed me.

"Sky?"

I opened my eyes and let my hands drop. Sam was standing by the door, watching me with worry.

"Hey," I rubbed my eyes and forces a small smile.

He returned my gentle smile and slowly made his way over to me.

He leaned up against the wall, right beside me and let out a breath, just like me.

"That was unexpected, wasn't it?" He asked quietly.

"Mhm," I nodded.

I could hear him swallow. "How did it make you feel?"

I paused and thought for a moment. How did it make me feel?

"Angry," I decided, "conflicted."

Sam didn't say anything. "Do you think you would have preferred of he didn't come?"

I shook my head. "I wish he didn't, but at the same time I'm glad to know what was going through his head"

Sam nodded. The doors to the auditorium opened and students spilled out along with the booming noise.

I caught a glimpse of wavy hair and Audrey popped up.

"Hey," she smiled at me, "you okay? That was quite something back there."

"Yeah," I assured her, "I'm alright."

She looked over at Sam then back at me. "I'll see you later?"

"At home," I told her. She nodded and left, leaving me with Sam.

"Okay," he raised his voice so I could hear him over the noise, "so I'm assuming I've gotten you to like me now," Sam said and I laughed.

"Yes, I like you now," I told him.

"Good," he smiled, "and I know this is sudden and all, but do you want to hang out tomorrow?"

I narrowed my eyes at him and grinned. "Are you asking me out?"

He rolled his eyes and failed to suppress a grin. "Technically."

"Hm, I don't know. Will this date be boring?" I teased.

He rolled his eyes again at me. "I will try my hardest to make sure it's not."

"Okay then," I smiled, "when do you want to pick me up?"

"Would four-thirty be okay?" He asked.

"Yes," I answered him, "sounds like a plan."

He nodded at me. "Until then."

Alright, so I'm terribly sorry if this update is a bit late. I have moved to a different continent, literally. I'm not saying that I'm visiting because I moved, I'm literally staying here for one or two years. But basically i moved from Canada to Egypt so yay!

But also I always thought the stereotype about Canadians being so apologetic was exaggerated but i never realized until I was completely out of the country how true it is lol. I literally say sorry all the time meanwhile no one even acknowledges me.

ps—I will try and revise the other chapters, and from now on I will be writing in past tense and will read over the chapter before posting it :)

with love
