Riley's POV
Am I stupid for what I'm about to do? Probably.
Am I going to do it anyways? Absolutely.
It's been a few weeks since alumni weekend, and I would be lying if I said Sophie hasn't been on my mind constantly.
It's been like a movie reel almost. Wake up, think about Sophie. Go to the studio and write songs about Sophie. Go to bed, looking to my right thinking that Sophie should be next to me, not an empty spot.
I've thought about reaching out to her multiple times, but Scarlett's words from the last time I saw them kept replaying in my mind, so I've left it alone for now.
However, a few days ago none other than Justin Moore called me about doing a song with him. After we had talked about the song, and started recording it, he told me he had gotten a call from Joey Logano about doing a tour of the shop and invited me to tag along knowing I'm a fan of the sport.
Of course I said yes, not even thinking about the fact that Sophie and Joey worked out of the same building and that she could possibly be here today.
Justin knows about Sophie, hell everyone in my close circle knows about her. However, he doesn't know that she's probably sitting inside of this building right now.
After walking into the building and checking in with the receptionist, we waited for Joey to come in from the shop.
"Do you have any other races planned this year?" Justin asks, leaning against the desk nearby.
"I don't know yet honestly. I have to take a look at the schedule here soon and decide" I respond.
He gives me a nod, before looking around the waiting area at the cars sitting around.
"I was thinking about Daytona in a few months, maybe Atlanta. Maybe we can figure something out, maybe get a group together or something" he responds.
A door opening up on the other side of the room draws our attention that direction, where we see Joey walking towards us a smile on his face.
After brief introductions, Joey takes us around the building, before finally leading us into the shop.
"It's a little chaotic here today. They're working on getting everything prepped and in the trucks for the race this weekend so the haulers can head out" Joey explains, opening up the door to the shop.
Joey leads us around the shop, showing us different areas of the shop and random things they use.
"Joseph Thomas Logano"
"Ryan Michael Blaney"
"Fuck" Joey and Ryan say in unison.
I look across the shop floor to see Ryan standing on the other side of the room, thankfully not noticing me there yet.
"What did you two do?" Paul, Joey's crew chief asks.
Hearing doors slam, I look up to see Sophie and the girl who needed her help at the race a while back standing on the landing, arms crossed over their chests.
"It was all Joey's idea Soph, I had nothing to do with it" Ryan exclaims, pointing over in our direction.
"It was Ryan's idea I swear. I had nothing to do with it" Joey responds.
"We thought it would be funny to wrap everything in their offices in bubble wrap this morning. So we got here early, and got the crew guys in on it. Hilarious stuff." Joey explains, looking back at us, a slight smirk on his face recalling his prank.
I watch as Sophie walks down the stairs and across the room to Ryan, while the other girl walks over to us, anger flowing off of both of them.
The girls steps falter, her eyes meeting mine before darting over to Sophie.
"Oh, she's going to murder you, Joey. I'm talking dead, 6 feet under. Better call the wife up and tell her you love her now because your life is on the line at the moment" she states.
"Lila, this is Riley and Justin. Guys this is my head of PR Lila" Joey introduces.
"You're a dead man walking" Lila states.
Joey gives her a confused look, before we hear footsteps running in our direction.
"I'm calling your wife, you just signed up for dish duty for the next two months" Sophie states.
"Why am I in trouble for what Ryan did to your office?" Joey asks Sophie.
"Oh please, we all know this was a scheme between the two of you, Ryan has his two months' worth of punishments too" Sophie responds.
I let out a small snicker at Sophie's comment knowing that her version of punishment for a prank is basically being her bitch for a few months.
When some guys on the football team pranked her, I was on the receiving end of that one for three months. Whenever she needed something, I had to go and get it for her, not that I minded it one bit.
My snicker caused everyone to look in my direction, some confused, while others just glared towards me.
"What are you laughing at? And what the fuck are you even doing here?" Sophie questions.
I watch as Ryan steps closer to Sophie, almost as if he's a shield to her, protecting her from no matter what may happen.
"I just feel bad for Ryan, we all know what your form of punishment for pranks is, and I would hate to be on the receiving end of that one" I respond.
"As for me being here, Joey invited Justin, and Justin invited me" I add.
"Wait a minute, you two know each other?" Joey questions.
Ryan rolls his eyes before motioning over towards me.
"Joey, I know you're smart, use your brain here" Ryan tells him.
Sophie's POV
I watch as Joey looks between Riley and myself, confusion on his face, before it finally clicks in his head.
When I met Joey, he quickly became an older brother figure in my life, seeing as how I am an only child. Hell, even his parents consider me another child, just like mine see him. If you ask anyone in NASCAR, Joey and I are siblings, even if it isn't by blood. So when Davis and I broke up, I told Joey everything. Everything about Riley, everything about why we broke up and how it still haunts me to this day.
Maybe it's petty of me to still be holding onto it, but when the person you envisioned spending your life with just exits your life so abruptly and moves on like you never existed, it fucking hurts. It's something that makes you question everything about yourself.
"Well shit, I didn't think about this one clearly" Joey states, looking over at me.
"I'm so confused, what's going on?" Justin Moore questions, looking at the scene in front of him.
Joey lets out a chuckle, before motioning over to me.
"Right. This is Sophie, my little sister, standing next to her is Ryan Blaney" Joey introduces.
I see the moment that the name, along with everything that has been said the past few minutes clicks in Justin's head.
He looks over at Riley, before looking over at myself.
"Well, this just got a lot more interesting" Justin responds.
"Soph, why don't we go back upstairs. Ryan and Joey can clean out our offices later" Lila suggests.
I give her a nod, looking over at Ryan.
"My office will be clean by the end of the day" I tell him, narrowing my eyes in his direction.
"Both of your offices are already cleaned out. I had the guys go ahead and get it done, there's lunch on both of your desks as well" Ryan responds.
I give him a thankful smile, before following Lila up the stairs towards our offices.
