Lukas's PoV

"Where do you live?" I asked as we strolled down the street, an occasional street lamp brightening up the path every now and then. "Oh, I live in Town Oaks." Jesse said, pointing to a road far away. "Town Oaks, huh? I live at Border Hills." I said.

"But don't look for trees at Town Oaks, the irony is that there aren't many oak trees there." Jesse laughed, nodding to the dark houses. Then there was silence as we walked around the park, our feet crunching the leaves and the dirt. "I did something really horrible." I blurted, pushing my hands deeper into my pockets.

"You can tell me anything, Lukas." I heard Jesse say, her voice patient and a little quiet. "You know all about it, right?" I said, turning to face her. Jesse nodded, her yellow hair slide glinting in the moonlight. "Some bits and pieces." she murmured. I looked down at the ground. "Petra is.." I mentally kicked myself, hoping Jesse didn't notice I said, "is" since Petra was still my friend.. I was confused even with myself. "Look, Petra was my best friend. I didn't want this to happen to her."

Jesse nodded.  "Lukas," Jesse said, taking my elbows and making me face her. I looked at her, her green eyes so similar to the other Jesse's. "We'll find the truth, together, okay?" She smiled, "And I'll stick by you, no matter what." I relaxed a little, wondering if Jesse had some kind of power over me, to make my worries wash away.

"Why?" I could hear my voice tremble again, "Why are you being so kind? I've done some horrible things, Jesse." I felt a tear run down my cheek. "I know, and I know you can begin again, Lukas. Start afresh. This time," she nudged me with her elbow with a smile. "You have a new friend."

I nodded, not trusting myself to speak, for I might've started crying. In front of a girl. It won't look very manly. Jesse raised an eyebrow at me. "What?" I asked, making her smile wider. "Just cry. I won't judge," Jesse patted my arm. I nodded and finally closed my eyes to cry. To finally let go of the anger, guilt and sorrow inside of me.
