Taehyung eyes Jeongguk as they walk into their apartment later that night. Watching him closely as he walks to the kitchen and runs himself a glass of water.
"Jeongguk?" He starts.
"Hm?" Jeongguk hums as he drinks the water, leaning against the counter when he's done. "What, Taehyung?"
"Tell me the truth, please," Taehyung says, looking down as he fidgets anxiously with the sleeves of his shirt.
"About what?" Jeongguk asks, turning his back to him as he puts his glass in the sink.
"About where you were last night," Taehyung says. "And about why you're acting so strange."
"What are you talking about?" Jeongguk asks, turning to face him with a bored expression.
"I don't know," Taehyung says looking up at him. "You just haven't been yourself for a while."
"What do you mean?" Jeongguk asks.
"Have you been taking your medicine?" Taehyung asks instead of answering his question.
"Why do you ask?" Jeongguk asks, sighing as he leans forward on the counter.
"Because you've been acting strange," Taehyung answers, he hated confronting Jeongguk about his medication. He never wanted to make him upset, or make him feel like he didn't trust him.
"Strange how?" Jeongguk asks.
"Can you answer one of my questions at least?" Taehyung asks. "I'm just worried about you~"
"Why are you~"
"Jeongguk, please, answer me,"
Jeongguk shrugs, pushing himself away from the counter before heading to the room. "I already told you, I'm tired. Is that alright?"
"I called Yoongi when you didn't come home," Taehyung confesses. "He said you didn't come to work, and that you weren't there when he got there this morning."
Jeongguk stops in his tracks, turning to face Taehyung. "You're checking up on me now? You're calling Yoongi to check up on me?"
"I was worried~"
"What the hell is the matter with you?" Jeongguk asks, he doesn't sound mad, mostly just irritated. "You don't trust me or something?"
"I didn't call because I don't trust you, I called because you disappeared on me," Taehyung says. "I was worried sick about you all night. I didn't know what to think when Yoongi told me you weren't at the clinic."
"Maybe you should just mind your fucking business then," Jeongguk says, scoffing before walking away. "I can't believe you."
"Where were you, Gguk?" Taehyung asks following him, he felt like he was going to burst into tears at any second. "What were you doing?"
"What do you think I was doing?" Jeongguk asks, stopping and facing him again. "Tell me, what do you think I was doing, Taehyung?"
"I don't know," Taehyung says. "I don't even care, Jeongguk. But if you're having an episode or if your medication needs to be updated~"
"Oh my god," Jeongguk chuckles in disbelief. "Can you please stop acting like you know everything? I'm taking the stupid medicine, that's all you need to know. Alright?"
"I think you're having an episode~"
"I'm not having a fucking episode!"
Taehyung falls silent, biting the inside of his lip before nodding his head.
"Fuck," Jeongguk curses to himself when he sees the tears forming in Taehyung's eyes. "I'm sorry, Taehyung, I'm not trying to make you upset, alright? It just pisses me off when you do that."
"Okay," Taehyung nods. "I won't do it anymore."
"I'm sorry," Jeongguk tries again, stepping towards Taehyung—only for him to step away. "Come on, Tae, don't do that. I'm sorry, okay?"
"I just want you to be okay," Taehyung says letting Jeongguk pull him into his arms.
"I am okay," He says, smoothing Taehyung's hair down. "I'm sorry, don't cry. Please don't cry because of me, Tae."
"It's okay," Taehyung says hugging him back for a moment before pulling away. "I'm just gonna sit out here for a while."
"I'm sorry~"
"It's fine,"
Taehyung walks back to the couch, sitting down and grabbing the tv remote as tears fall down his face. He hears Jeongguk walk into the bedroom. He waits until he hears the shower running before he pulls his phone out of his pocket, dialing Yoongi's cell.
"Hey, Taehyung," The older answers right away.
"Yoongi," Taehyung starts, it's evident in his voice that he's crying.
"What happened?" Yoongi asks, his tone worried.
"I think we need to have that conversation," Taehyung says, closing his eyes as a sob bubbles in his chest.
"Okay..." Yoongi sighs on the other line, falling silent for a while. "Do you want to meet me tomorrow?"
"Yeah," Taehyung breathes, wiping his face with his sleeve. "Text me a time and a place."
"Okay," Yoongi says again. "Everything's going to be alright, Tae~"
"Text me, okay?" Taehyung says quickly before pulling the phone away from his ear and ending the call. He sighs as he tries to pull himself together.
He was afraid that Yoongi was going to confirm his suspicions all along.
~
"What happened?"
Taehyung sighs, sitting back in his seat. He met Yoongi at a small diner across town, somewhere he was sure Jeongguk wouldn't run into them.
"We went to dinner with my friends yesterday and he was completely out of it," Taehyung says looking down as he stirs his water with his straw. "He went to the bathroom and he was gone for, like, twenty minutes. I don't think he even realized how long he was gone."
Yoongi nods along with his words.
"When we got home that night I tried to ask him if he took his medicine, y'know, just in case he was just having an episode or something," Taehyung continues. "He completely evaded every question I asked and he just...he wasn't himself, Yoongi. He's been acting so weird lately and he's been so tired. He falls asleep early and then he sleeps until two or three in the afternoon."
"Have you seen him taking his medicine at all?" Yoongi asks. "He could've stopped taking it. He does that all the time."
Taehyung reaches into his coat pocket and pulls out the full pill bottle, handing it to Yoongi. "Open it,"
Yoongi takes the bottle, twisting the top off and finding the bottle half filled with plastic baggies. A dreadful feeling settles over him when he see the familiar baggies. "Okay..."
"I'm sorry," Taehyung says covering his face as tears form in his eyes.
"This isn't your fault, Taehyung," Yoongi says putting the top back on the bottle. "This isn't anyones fault, not even Jeongguk's."
"I know," Taehyung sighs, wiping his face. "He's going to freak out when he realizes I found that. He's going to lose his shit."
"He won't hurt you, Taehyung," Yoongi says when he sees the fear behind his eyes. "He wouldn't do that, I swear."
"What am I supposed to do?" Taehyung asks, trying to swallow his tears. "I don't know what to do, Yoongi."
"We're going to help him," Yoongi says. "He's just as confused as we are I'm sure. And I know he hates himself right now."
"I just don't understand," Taehyung sighs. "He was doing so well, wasn't he?"
"He was," Yoongi nods. "But we can't focus on how well he was doing, we have to focus on getting him back there."
"How?" Taehyung asks.
"I don't know yet," Yoongi admits. "But I promise everything's going to be fine."
Taehyung nods, sighing as the ache in his head intensifies. He feels the urge to drink right now, and he curses himself for it.
The last thing he should be thinking about right now is drinking.
He needed to help Jeongguk, he just didn't know how.
