Chapter Two
"Antoine! I didn't expect to see you here." I said with actual surprise.
This academy was intended for intelligent people. I'm not saying he's dumb, but he doesn't seem to know the definitions of simple phrases such as "leave me alone" or "no, I don't want to feel your muscle" or even "yes, I'm sure that I don't want to marry you."
Believe me, I didn't tell him those things only one time.
I secretly think that he just paid an abnormally large quantity in order to attend this school. After all, his family is rich beyond belief. That's another reason that practically every maiden in the village swoons over him, besides his looks.
I'm probably the only lady who isn't blinded by those two details and sees him for who he truly is. An arrogant snob.
Of all people, why'd he have to take a liking to me? Now he constantly follows me around; as if that's going to make me reciprocate his feelings
"Ah, yes. Many people have be surprised when I informed them of my enrollment in this academy. Mother is good friends with the dean of this academy, and they easily reserved me a spot, knowing of my superior medical knowledge."
I blinked. "You actually want to be a doctor? I thought you preferred inflicting pain rather than preventing it."
He chuckled. "Oh Elliana, how I love your sense of humor. Of course I strive to be in the medical field."
Something's not right. Antoine is definitely not the type of person who would become a doctor. He told me himself, a little over a year ago.
Flashback
I was sitting in my chair, quietly reading my high school textbook in the library, when all of a sudden it becomes hard to read the page of the book I am on because a person that came up behind me towered over my sitting figure and blocked the light from reaching my book, causing a shadow to be present.
I instantly knew who it was; for he hadn't left me alone all day.
Without turning around, I acknowledged his presence.
"What do you want, Antoine?" I sighed.
He snatched my textbook off the table, and held it upside down in front of his face.
"How do you find interest in these words scribbled on paper? It's preposterous! What language is this even written in?" he said while furrowing his eyebrows.
I bit my lip in order to stop myself from laughing.
"English." I say while flipping the book in his hands right side up.
"Oh." Antoine mumbled. "Well you don't need this ridiculous waste of time." he says and tosses it into the nearby trash can.
"Antoine! I need that! I have to study if I want to get into Highstead." I explain while fetching the textbook from the trash.
"So you're studying to be a doctor? Well the option is still open if you'd prefer being my assistant for--"
"Yes, I'm going to be a doctor. And like I said multiple times before, I decline your offer. I'd rather not spend my time as..."
I don't even want to explain what it was.
"You know, other--"
"Girls would love to do that job? Well I'm not one of them." I finished the sentence that he's said so many times before.
His mouth opened and closed like a fish, about to say something but thinking against it at the last moment.
"Well I, for one, think that you shouldn't get a medical career, because there's already way too many people with those kinds of jobs."
"And how is that a logical excuse?"
"Because there are other careers that need you to fill their place." he reasons.
"What could possibly be a better job option than saving people's lives?"
"I don't know..." I felt him place a hand on my shoulder and I tensed up.
He's really irritating me right now. If he doesn't get his filthy hand off me in the next minute...
"Maybe a chef, or an athlete." His hand moved from my shoulder and I was relieved, but that only lasted for a second because he lightly stroked my cheek. "Or a housewife."
I stood up from my seat and faced him, my head looked up since he was a few feet taller than me. "Sorry to ruin this little fantasy of yours, but I choose what I want to do with my future and right now, that future will not have you in it, okay? I will not let my dreams die just so that I can be a housewife and if I end up as a housewife, then it most certainly will not be in your household." I say, beginning to gather my things."You're lucky that I even stayed for this absurd conversation."
I head over to the exit, in which Antoine quickly steps in front of me succeeding in blocking my way.
I sighed. "What now?"
"So what you said was... You might change your mind?"
I scoffed at his ludicrous statement and because of my slender figure, I easily slipped through the open area underneath his right arm and out the door.
End flashback.
Oh, I understand now. He just enrolled in Highstead because I had mentioned that I wanted to be accepted in this academy and he knew I would be here. When will he take the hint and comprehend the fact that I don't want to be with him?
Besides, following someone everywhere they go isn't the best way to win them over.
Suddenly I see a familiar face of someone who is scurrying towards us.
"Timothee! Where have you been? Have they transported my items to the classroom yet?"
Timothee breathed heavily for a few seconds before responding. He was a little on the chubby side and running long distances was a new thing for him.
"No, not all of it sir. " He says.
Timothee was Antoine's best friend. Everyone knew that, although Antoine treated him like a servant."Oh, Elliana! I hadn't seen you there. G'day m'lady." he says with a bow.
I giggled. Unlike Antoine, Timothee was always polite and really nice to me.
I curtsy in response. "Good day to you too."
Antoine pushed Timothee out of the way in order to have the attention focused on him once again.
"What is that horrid thing you have on your back?" He asks with a look of disgust on his face.
In order to save money, I had to create my backpack by hand. It wasn't the prettiest of bags, but it was easily distinguishable as a backpack.
"It's called a backpack. It holds my belongings...." I say as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. Which it is.
"Why would you, or anyone for that matter, want to wear this filthy thing?" he says, pulling it off my shoulders.
I groaned. Antoine began to remove the contents from my bag.
"What are you doing?! Stop! Leave that there! Ugh."
He didn't listen to me and proceeded to dump the remains of my items on the floor.
"Timothee! Take Elliana's stuff to her class. Now!" He orders. Timothee quickly scrambles to gather all my things. I start to bend over so that I could help him pick them up, but Antoine stops me.
"Why do the work when someone else can do it for you?"
"Because helping others is the cordial thing to do." I retort.
I just realized something. How does he know where my class is?
"Wait, how did you... Nevermind."
I didn't want to know.
I notice that we are in the office for a long time, and I have to get to class, or else I'll be late.
"I really need to get to class, so could you just move over to allow me to open the door?"
"But if I do, then you'll leave."
No dip, Sherlock.
"I know" is my answer.
"Well we can't have that happening, now can we?" He says with a smirk.
"Please move."
"Can I have a kiss first?"
I blink.
Is he insane?
"What? Of course not!"
"Then you aren't leaving here."
"Ugh! Antoine, I'm not joking! You better move right this second, or else--"
He cuts me off with a loud guffaw.
"Or else what? What are you going to do? Say please?"
I sighed in defeat. I couldn't do anything. He was too large for me to push out of the way and I couldn't kick him or else the lady at the front desk would see.
Although, I'm surprised she still hasn't taken notice of all of this that has happened in the past ten minutes.
"Okay fine, you win. I'll give you a kiss if you'll let me leave afterwards. I can't imagine why that's what you want, but okay."
It seemed to take him by surprise.
"So you have finally come to your senses, eh? Well alright then." He says with his head held high, then adjusts his collar, looking quite pleased with himself and how clever he thinks he is.
Because of my height, he has to lean down, so I use that to my advantage by stepping out of the way and pushing him further towards the ground, causing him to fall over. I quickly escape through the open door, silently praising myself.
I'm not giving in that easily.
