Chapter 9. Why Can't We? * Edited *
2352 Words
POV Jack
There was a clear stream of sunlight trying to penetrate my closed eyes. But it wasn't a harsh light. It was really gentle, calming, a real refresher to the morning. My eyes slowly peeled open to meet the awaiting gaze of the stream, and it greeted me with delight, and happiness as I looked into its soft interior.
The crawled across the walls, leaving its beautiful residue all over the surfaces it touched, filling the entire room, and house with the beauty of the morning. I have always been a morning person, considering that I am afraid of the dark. My room is painted so that in the dark, it doesn't seem that dark. My brother and I are so different. His room is painted black, with yellow, reflective trim around the corners. I really don't understand how he even gets around that room without crashing into what's around there.
Mr. Fong's house is really nice, and bright. The room that we are in right now is cream colored, with dark, mahogany colored furniture lining the corners, besides the dark chaise that we're lying on right now. Everything matches beautifully, and all in the light contrast of the color scheme. Mr. Fong really knows his colors.
I let my eyes roam around the lightly lit room, seeing everything that I had missed before. As I took the room into a greater detail, the light, delicious aroma of coffee lingered into the room, and tickled my nose. I don't drink it, but dada, and Mark do, so the smell is always in the air, but its different than what Mr. Fong is drinking. Dad's and Mark's is darker, a more rich smell to it, Mr. Fong's is lighter, and sweeter. The difference between Mr. Fong and dada is astounding, but yet, they're so similar in many aspects too. I guess that's what makes them good friends.
I tense my muscles as my arms raise above my head, my legs stretch out, and my back caves in as I let go of all of my cracking muscles at once, as I got ready for the day. My horrendous cracking noises woke up the sleeping angel on my lap, and she looked up to me with her beautiful, drowsy, green eyes, and smile spilling across her face, making her look even more beautiful than she really is. And that is saying a lot.
"Good morning sleepy-head!" I smiled to Sarah, and pulled a flaming chunk of her hair out of her emerald orbs, her sleepy smile was shining bright through the light room.
"Good morning Jack! Did you sleep good?" She asked, taking a big stretch.
"Um, yeah. I did! How about you?" I asked, as she sat up, and her hair was a fire-y blaze of tangles, and curls.
"Yeah! You're comfy!" She smiled, trying to shove her hair back down to where it normally belonged.
"I'm glad! But did you really sleep with out Mr. Kindles?" I asked, as we both stood up, to get ready for the day.
"I guess I did. You slept without Freddy?" She asked, as the soft pitter patter of our uncovered feet slapping against the hard, cold, hardwood flooring that lay beneath us.
"I never thought I would, but I did! Where is your dada?" I asked, trying to make my feet a little softer, so in case he was sleeping, we wouldn't wake him up.
"I think he's In the kitchen!" She smiled, and started to pick up her speed, so she would see him faster. I quickly followed her.
When we entered the room, the sweet smell of his coffee filled the air, and sending happiness through my body, and bringing a smile to my face.
"Daddy!" She smiled, surprising Mr. Fong, and bringing a smile to his face, as he bent down, and outstreached his arms, to take in her embrace. She snuggled up tight into him. and he tucked his nose into her shoulder, loving her tightly.
"Hello beautiful! I like your hair!" He smiled, plucking a strand of her gleaming hair from her lips, and tucking it behind her ear.
"Hey dad! Thank you! I like your hair too!" She smiled, running her tiny fingers through his long, pointy hair. He laughed, and set her in his lap. I smiled at those two, and noticed the scrapbook on the table, with the page where he was holding Sarah, and there were a few tears on the soft plastic.
"Hey Jack!" He smiled, patting his other leg, offering the spot to me, if I wanted to sit there beside Sarah. I smiled, and he grabbed me with one arm, and pulled me onto his lap, and smiled. We were both laughing, as Mr. Fong started to bounce, and sway us to and fro, were a giggling mess.
Once we were all giggled out, we were tired again, but not nearly enough to sleep, just tired.
There was a nice little ring tone that shot through the air.
(Cuz I, love to live, and I live for you. I live to love, and I love you)
That was such a sweet song. I bet Andrew would preform that well! Mr. Fong picked up the phone, while still having us in his arms.
"Good morning, this is Evan," He said, with happiness lingering in his voice. There was intelligible talking on the other line, but I watched Mr. Fong's chocolate eyes dart to and fro, as if he was watching an invisible fly zoom around the table.
"Oh, alright! I'll be there a bit! See ya soon Vinny," He smiled through the phone, making everyone feel all happy, except Sarah's face dropped, as she knew what this meant.
"Hey Jackaboy, that was your dad, he called, and said that its time to come home, so if you want, it would be good to collect all of your stuff up, and we'll get ready to go," He smiled, helping me off of his lap. I smiled, knowing that it was time to go.
"I'll help him!" Sarah smiled, then hopped off of his lap, and led me to her room.
"Alright guys! Five minuets, and we'll leave!" He smiled, picking up his coffee cup once again, and taking a long swig from it, as we padded across the floor again to her room.
She threw all of my clothes into a lump, and shoved them into my backpack, and tried to zip it, as I grabbed Freddy. It was weird, he felt really cold, distant. I'll have to see what's bothering him later.
"You ready Jack?" She smiled, holding my backpack to me.
"Yup!" I smiled, tucking Freddy underneath my armpit, letting him get all warm and everything. She took my hand, and we walked out to the porch again.
"You guys ready to go?" He asked, with his jacket draped over his shoulder.
"Yup!" We chimed together.
He opened the door for us, and we both stepped out, and he walked us to the car, opened the door for us, and buckled us both in.
As we were on the ride home, Freddy started feeling even colder, so I slightly pushed him away from me, so I wouldn't feel the chill. No one noticed.
At the Fredbear House
"Thank you for staying with us Jack! It was nice having you!" Mr. Fong smiled, and waved out the window of his car.
"Thank you so much for letting me stay with you! Have a nice day Mr. Fong, and I'll see you soon Sarah!" I smiled, waving to them, while Freddy lie in my arms, and my backpack draped around my shoulders.
"See ya soon Jack!" Sarah smiled. I waved once more, then started to walk back to my house. As soon as I stepped inside, Mr. Fong drove away. And I was filled with the chill of my house again. The cold grey, and blue paint lining the walls sent shivers up and down my spine, the feeling of uncomfort was harsh in the air. I walked past Mark, and saw that there was a huge bruise on his face, in the shape of a hand.
"MARK! What happened to you?!" I asked, squeezing Freddy. Mark's chocolate eyes were nothing like Mr. Fong's. His were happy, bright, and beautiful, Mark's are filled with hate, anger, and longing. He was clearly mad, and I hope that I didn't disrupt anything. He turned to me, and looked even angrier than he was. He stood up from the table, and stomped harshly to his room, letting the floor tremble underneath his heavy footsteps, then there was a loud slam on the door. I clentched my eyes tightly, and tried to make myself small again. Even though he couldn't see me, I would never want to stand above him.
"Hey Jackaboy! You're home!" My dad's happy voice smiled in the air, and I ran to greet him, he wrapped me in a large embrace, holding me tightly, and me, melting back into his arms.
"Hey dada! I missed you!" I smiled, holding him tighter, remembering the soft fabric of his suit again.
"I missed you too Jacky! Did you have fun at Sarah's?" He smiled, holding my sides, pressing me into a little sandwitch.
"Yeah! It was so much fun! We had pizza, and looked at a scrap book, we went to the store, and we slept on the chaise, while Mr. Fong wen-" I went on about my night at Sarah's, but I was interrupted by Mark, yet again, stomping around the house, but this time, he was leaving.
"Mark, were are you going?" Dad interrupted me.
"Out."
"Out where?" He asked, trying to get an answer from him.
"Like you actually give a fuck. I'll be back tonight. Just leave me alone," His dark voice pierced the air, and left me feeling frozen yet again. He stared at Dad, then slamed the door as he walked out. Dad's hands started to clench a little tighter around my arms, and his face resembled one of deep pain, and regret.
"Dad?" I asked, wondering if he would actually tell me what happened.
"Jacky, (sigh) Don't worry about it Jack. Mark and I got into a little fight over the weekend. It will all blow over soon, I don't want you to worry about it." He said, letting go of my arms, and standing up. Dad is really tall.
"Um, Alright. Hey dad?" I asked, trying to ignore that whole scene.
"Yeah Jack?" He asked, running his fingers up and down his face.
"Do, we have any, um, like, old scrapbooks?" I asked, looking down to my untied shoes.
"Do you want to see momma Jacky?" He asked quietly.
I didn't dare say anything. I just looked down to my feet. I didn't want to hurt dada by bringing up momma, and old memories that he had with her, but it was hurting me that I keep forgetting her beautiful face.
"Jack?" He asked again. I nodded my response. A long sigh escaped his throat, and made me go small again.
"Yeah, I think we do. How about you go unpack your stuff, while I look for it, ok?" He said, trying to lighten his voice again. Happiness bubbled throughout my entire body, and a smile erupted over my face.
"You mean it?!" I asked, with excitement taking over my voice.
"Haha! Yeah! I don't see why not!" He smiled, running his long fingers through my hair, and tousling it around.
"Yay! Thank you so much dada! I love you!" I smiled, hugging him tightly again.
"I love you too Jacky!" He smiled, hugging me again, and then letting me run off to my room. The first thing I looked at, was Freddy after I lugged my heavy backpack off of my shoulders.
"Hey, Freddy, are you ok?" I asked, looking into his eyes.
Silence.
"Did I do something wrong?" I asked, not really wanting to know the answer.
Silence.
"Freddy?"
"If you're going to ignore me, why cant I ignore you?" He said, angrily.
"Freddy, I was going to come grab you, but I didn't want to disru-" I started, but he cut me off.
"Excuses, Excuses, EXCUSES! Everything that you're saying is an excuse! Give me a reason! No, actually, don't, I don't even care. I'm fine. I mean, after all I'm just a teddy bear, arnt I?" His black, shiny eyes started to get really shiny, and actually looked, grey, with a white center. This took me off guard, making it unable for me to answer for a few seconds.
"Freddy, no! You know you are so much more than that to me! You know how much I love you!" I said, running my finger over his ripped ear.
"Then why were you spending so much time with Sarah?"
"Well, because I was at her house!"
"You know what, so was I! You could have played with Mr. Kinldes and I, but no, you spent all of your time looking at a scrapbook, and eating pizza, while I was left in the bedroom all alone. You have been alone your entire life, and now, when you finally have someone who is always with you, you leave them alone?!" He asked, with anger filling his eyes, while tears were filling mine.
"Freddy, no! I didn't mean to leave you alone!"
"Sean, but you did."
"What can I do to make it up to you? I am so so so sorry Freddy! I promise that I will never leave you again! I promise!" I cried, begging to him.
"Do you promise?" He asked, trying to subdue his anger.
"Yes! With my entire heart, I promise!" I sobbed.
"Alright, you really hurt me Sean," He said, looking down.
"I know, and I will never ever do it again, I promise. I am so sorry," I sobbed again.
Freddy's voice turned dark, angry, and slightly demonic. His next sentence left me frozen in place.
"I know you wont, I'll make sure of it,"
