Matt and I Are Getting Married!

Vanessa

"Matt and I are getting married!"

Addison spat out her juice, leaving a red stain all over her white shorts as I plopped down across from her in the grass while she sucked on a tropical drink and read the latest issue of Vogue. "Shoot," she muttered, dabbing at the mark with the corner of the neon green towel she was sitting on. Her eyebrows shot up as she glanced at me. "Isn't this a little sudden? The last time we talked, you were hiding in your bedroom away from him because it hurts too much to look at his face and that gorgeous dimple. Not that I can blame you. I mean, it causes me pain as well to have to look at his dumb mug all the time."

I elbowed her. "Be nice. Ok, so maybe we aren't getting married now but we will one day. I just know it." I stretched out on the grass, feeling like a cat in the sunshine as I soaked up the last warm rays of summer. "I'm so in love with him, Addie," I said dreamily.

She gave me another stunned look, this time dropping her jaw open. "You want to back it up here and explain where all of this is coming from because I vividly recall you announcing to me not more than two weeks ago, that you were over him and now you're picking out your wedding dress?"

I sat up, excitedly clutching onto her arm. "We had the most amazing time last night."

"Yea?" She perked up and leaned forward, her green eyes sparkling. "Did you two finally do it? Or maybe he just slipped you the tongue? I know," she said clasping my knee. "There was some heavy petting action, wasn't there?" She squealed as she continued to grip onto me. "Tell me everything!"

"Oh my god, Addie it was even better than all that." My cheeks hurt from grinning so widely and my friend let out another cry of glee. "We talked!"

The smile dropped from her face, replaced instantly by a frown as she furrowed her eyebrows. "Oh."

I patted her thigh. "No, you don't understand. I mean, we really talked." I clutched at my chest. "He's so funny and sweet, Addie. He even bought me candy."

Addison rolled her eyes. "Vanessa, that's boring and quite frankly, hardly warrants any wedding bells." She picked up her magazine again, thumbing through it before pausing to raise her gaze towards me. "At least tell me you let him feel you up. Might as well use your new boobs for something," she muttered.

I crossed my arms as I glowered at her. "There's more to life than just hooking up, Addie. We actually connected. He even said I wasn't ugly and that he liked my button nose. He told me that I was like a cute bunny."

Addison wrinkled her nose at me. "Ew, he said that? God, he's so cringe. Why are you in love with him again?"

I huffed at her as I plucked a blade of grass out of the ground. "Can't you just be excited for me?"

Sighing, she tossed the glossy Vogue aside. "I would but there's nothing to be excited about. While that stuff is all well and cute, I fail to see the part where he professes his undying love for you and I swoon."

"Never mind," I mumbled, standing up and brushing the dirt off my shorts. "You had to be there. It was a perfect night even if you don't think so."

Addison tugged on my arm. "V, sit. Tell me what you two talked about. If it made you that happy then I want to hear all about it."

I plopped back down, excitedly tapping her on the knee again. "OK! So get this, he actually said that what Aaron Long claimed about me being ugly wasn't true. And then, he was like 'Oh, I know my opinion doesn't count for anything,' I said, dropping my voice low to mimic his. 'But you're not ugly.' And then I thought to myself, No, you gorgeous creature and the absolute love of my life, it counts for everything." I sighed wistfully. "He's so adorable. I can't take it."

Addison stared at me, her mouth open and her eyes wide. "Don't you think that maybe you're getting just a teensy bit carried away again and for what? Because he said you weren't ugly? I tell you that all the freaking time. No, actually, I go a step up and tell you you're pretty." She crinkled her forehead as she looked at me. "I just don't understand, V. You were over him. How did you backslide so far?"

I bit my lip. "Um, I hung out with him again and remembered how incredible he was."

She nodded at me, concern on her face. "V, don't take this the wrong way because I'm all for the two of you being a couple but just be careful, because once you get put in the friend zone, it's hard to work your way back out. I don't want to see you getting hurt again the next time he makes out with somebody that's not you or some girl with blonde hair that you feel is prettier and that you have to compare yourself to."

I crossed my arms, regretting that I had even bothered saying anything to her. She leaned forward to cup my chin, forcing me to look at her. "Who knows? Maybe I'm wrong and can expect your wedding invitation in the mail in the next 2-4 months," she said with a half-hearted smile on her face.

Giggling at her, I laid back down to stare at the big fluffy clouds overhead. "Do you ever imagine what your future husband will be like, Addie?"

She propped herself up on her elbows as she lay down beside me. "Only all the freaking time. He has to be hot, loaded, and showers me with a ton of attention. If he's not any of those things, then I'm not interested."

"What do you think he will look like?"

She bit her lip. "Like an angel. He's going to have the most beautiful blue eyes with blond hair that I can run my fingers through and golden skin. And his body, god, his body will consist of washboard abs and rippling muscles." She shivered. "I can't wait to meet him."

I rolled over to look at her as I giggled some more. "That's very specific."

She picked up her drink, taking another sip. "Picking out a husband is serious business, V and I won't settle for anything less than Prince Charming."

I smiled as I played with the button on my shorts. "Well, Matt is definitely Prince Charming."

Addison snorted, shooting liquid out of her nose this time. "Damnit, Vanessa, you really need to stop dropping these bizarre bombs on me." She wiped her face with her towel. "The only thing Matt is Prince of is pain in the asses. You really do worship him too much. He's just a regular, gross boy once you get to know him." She sighed. "Just as they all are. That's why when I get married, we aren't going to live together so we can keep the air of romance alive and I don't have to be around my husband to witness him be disgusting and do things like belch or not shower for two days." She made a face of disgust at the thought.

"Well, I disagree. I think it's romantic to know somebody at both their best and their worst. And if you still want to be with them, then that's how you know it really is true love. "Addison looked at me like I had seven heads but I knew that when she eventually fell in love, she would feel differently.
