Prompt #3 - "This is a Terrible Idea"

***(Omniscient POV)***
Kai swallowed hard, the noose around his neck seeming to tighten with the motion. His clammy hands itched to reach up and pull at the uncomfortable cloth, but before he could manage to reach it, his sister Nya swatted his fingers back to his sides.
"Stop messing with that," she huffed, fiddling with the noose herself. "Your bowtie looks fine."
He tried to clear his throat so he could breathe more easily. "This is a terrible idea," he mumbled.
"It was yours, so you might be right." Nya smoothed the lapels of his jacket. "But I support you all the way. No backing out on this now, you hear?"
Kai's mind immediately raced to all escape routes. "We could climb out the window, Nya. It could be just you and me, like the old days."
She quirked a manicured brow. "I never thought the master of fire would get cold feet."
Kai blinked at her as though he were a clueless ostrich.
Nya sighed and patted his chest. "The ceremony will be starting any moment now. Get yourself together."
"But what if - "
Kai's voice died in his throat as a familiar organ tune sounded throughout the chapel. He suddenly understood why people compared this song to Darth Vader's theme from the Star Wars films.
Nya shot him a reassuring grin before leaving him up there in front of all his friends. They'd all gathered to see his demise - to watch as the life was sucked out of him by some man reading from a black book. His brother-in-law even had the audacity to wink at him as Nya sat beside him.
I don't have to tie myself down to anyone, he reassured himself, scorning his friends. I don't have to make the mistake of getting too attached to one person again. Nya and I have always had each other. Why should I feel the need to get hitched just because I've found a girl I can finally relate to on -
The double doors at the front of the chapel swung open, and his train of thought was severed at that moment.
For there stood Skylor, dressed in saucy red rather than pure white, bearing a kilowatt smile as she stared him down.
Could she really see the fear in his eyes from such a distance? Was that why she was giving him that knowing, yet amused and somehow calming expression? Because his trepidation was obvious?
No, no, of course not. For all fear had suddenly been replaced with certainty - a wonderful knowing that he was about to marry the love of his life.
There was not a hint of misgiving to be found in him any longer.
