Chapter 2
Albie Forbes, maybe she's the most perfect girl i have ever seen. She got the aura that attracts people, resonates with them or maybe charms them too.
She's way out of my league. That's the only thing that came to my mind. She's already everyone's favourite and I'm just someone who's joining late. But maybe if there's just a little chance, a little hope..i want to grab it.
But the next day, it became pretty clear that maybe our worlds will never collide.
Joining late means only thing, that is you won't be accepted right away and that too not by everyone. And it seems like she already have a group and a boy she always talks to.
It took me a few days to adjust and right now my friend circle isn't made up of brilliant minds but cheerful little rascals. This is the only group that accepted me.
But maybe the problem lies in me. Even though I thought to be more active and enjoy this college life, I'm the same old boy from back then, who didn't talk much. Who's humour ain't that great and who's somewhat not interested in the real world.
The only thing that I have done since joining college in these few days is to catch up to the syllabus. I never gave second thoughts to this crush of mine. Afterall reality can often be cruel. And in my case it's clear to me that she and I can't be more than friends, maybe being friends with her will be fortunate enough for me. Afterall she's to me is the most beautiful dream that I can ever have.
Well, college life is pretty fun, I only have to deal with 4 subjects a semester. And I heard that the sports festival in this college is pretty insane too. As for the professors, I can say that they are just average.
"Dave, can you answer this question?"
"Yes sir."
It's been nearly a week. A few professors actually remember my name and call out to me sometimes during lectures but I'm just a no name when it comes to students in my class. Just a face among a number of faces.
"Good job, it's correct."
"Thanks professor."
Good thing is that I'm fairly good at studies. Maybe if I keep it up I can get a good rank by the end of the year.
"Are you coming to the cafeteria?"
"What's the point of being here if it's recess now so Yeah let's go."
The one who asked me this stupid question is my friend Drake Carter. He's lacking a little in the brain department but he was the first one to talk to me and now it feels like we can be best buds. I am a quite type and he's overly enthusiastic. I won't talk and he won't stop talking, a perfect match for friendship.
"What do you wanna eat Dave?"
"Just get me something that can fill my stomach."
"Okiee, the same old answer from your side, nice i got it."
"Drake, come fast, nobody is sitting there.."
"Yeah, you go. Let me take the order."
I still sometimes can't believe how the hell he's able to befriend the whole class? He's just a monster when it comes to communication.
"So..i have a question and answer it honestly, okay Dave?"
What question does he have now? From the way he's grinning this whole time, I can guess it's something bad.
"Albie Forbes, you got a crush on her, right?"
What the f ... how does he know that. I thought he was just a crackhead who's only good when it comes to enjoying life.
"You thought something rude about me just now."
He lowered his gaze making himself look a little angry. But seriously how can he guess things this right?
"Nah, why would I think something bad about you."
"Hmmm...right, but about this Albie girl. Did I hit the nail?"
"Albie and I, nah...never gonna happen."
"Comeon dude, I saw you stealing glances at her. Don't just deny it when it's so obvious."
Oh! That's why.
"I'm just admiring the beauty, nothing wrong in that."
"Okay, deny all you want my friend. But guess what, I'm ready to be your wingman whenever you need."
"Haha, thanks bud, whenever I need help, I will call you first."
"Haha, that's more like it. By the way, what do you do in your free time?"
"My free time. Hmm...I watch some anime or write some stories on an online platform."
"Oh! You write novels, wow. Give me the link, I will read your stories."
I have been highly influenced by the anime that I started watching back in the start of high school and after reading some light novels, I actually decided to write my own novel. And here I am, writing on this online platform.
"Here, this is the book. Read it and don't share it with anyone. It's a little embarrassing for me."
"Haha, don't worry dude. Even if i share i guess nobody would laugh. Because I think it's going to be an awesome novel."
"Hehe, let's go to class Drake, time is nearly over."
"Yeah."
We came back to the class, and it seems that Albie and her friends are here too. But I don't have anything to do with them so I took my laptop out and started writing the new chapter for my novel.
It would be best if I make some online friends who share the same interest. That way I would be able to improve myself and I can get to know some amazing writers too.
"Excuse me, dave.."
My gaze shifted above the screen of the laptop onto the person standing in front of my seat. Even before looking onto the person, I knew who they were because of their voice. It made my heart go haywire. It made me nervous.
"Al..Abbie, yes..a..you called?"
Way to go duffer. Here goes your first impression. Look at her, she looks like she's discontented about calling out to me.
"Well..you don't talk very much to the other classmates. So we thought, why not come with us on tomorrow since it's sunday. We are going shopping. And you can invite Drake too."
Is this for real? I'm getting invited and that too by my crush. Maybe the distance between us isn't that great after all. But maybe that's just me, as others are coming too. It's her just being nice to me. Yeah.. she's the same with everyone.
"Okay, I will tell Drake too. Thanks for inviting me."
"Haha, no worries. By the way what are you writing?"
Suddenly she tried to peep at my laptop screen but before she could even see anything, I closed the laptop.
"It's nothing."
She looked at me with a crooked smile.
"You sure, you are not hiding something?"
"Yeah, I'm not. Look, they are calling you."
"Oh, well time and place will be posted in the group in the evening. Don't forget to tell Drake though, okay?"
"Okay, see ya."
Hanging out with friends huh, sounds fun.
After the ending of college hours. There's nothing left for me to do. Drake already left because he had something important to do. And Albie and her group are again talking among themselves. Since there's nothing more to do I decided to leave.
But after leaving the college grounds I realized that my bag feels a lot lighter, maybe I forgot my laptop back in the class. So, I checked my bag and my hunch was right.
I ran again towards my college. This might be bad, it's a new laptop that I just bought. If I lose it, my brother might get a lot angry.
As I entered the class, my panic turned into relief. My laptop was there on the desk where I forgot.
Looks like Albie and her friends left for home too. Well i should leave then but my eyes got drawn towards something that was written on the blackboard.
'Albie, I love you.'
Wait..is this an anonymous confession or was it just Albie and her friends fooling around?
Looking at this, I got agitated. Maybe it's just me digging deeper into this but maybe she sat on the bench while the other made her confession though the board. In any case I should leave before someone finds..
I felt, as if someone entered the class, I turned my head towards the door only to find out that it's Albie.
I thought to myself, why is she here? Wait...this is bad. If it's an anonymous confession she might think that it's me who wrote that. Maybe I should just tell her why I was her.
"Albie, well..i..i was here to get my bag."
She walked to the front of the backboard and her eyes shifted onto the text that was written on the board.
As she read the text, her gaze shifted towards me, she took a step back while fidgeting. Maybe she's nervous. Her ears are becoming kind of red too.
Maybe it was an anonymous confession.
She looked at me again. Her nervousness is clearly bouncing on her face. Maybe it's the first time she's confessed. Wait, she's thinking I am the one who's confessed.
Looking at her, I realized that she's going to say something. Maybe I'm getting rejected without confessing myself. I will have to do something.
