I waited until dad came home with Peta. But when he got here I decided to wait until dinner to tell them both about homecoming. I was going to wait until Peta left the table though. Our parents were already going to react like it was a huge deal. I didn't need him on it too.

We ate in silence, it felt very comfortable. I almost wanted to just blurt out the news but I had to keep it in. Thank goodness Peta eventually filled the silence, blabbering on and on about how a girl stole his graham crackers. It was hilarious to all of us but him. He especially glared at me when I laughed since I'm his sibling, not one of our parents.

Dad cleared his throat, to mostly get Peta's attention off me. "Well Peta, I think this girl might like you." he said bringing all our attention and causing Peta's face to turn slightly pink.

"N-No, Jenna doesn't like me." Peta grumbled then quickly ate his food then grabbed his bowl, running off from the table.

I sighed in relief while dad chuckled at Peta. Mom just shook her head. Their attention went back to their food. I took a deep breath and decided it was now or never. Kind of not true but the sooner I tell, the better.

"Sooo..." I started causing them to bother look up from their bowls. "I'm going to homecoming." I said before stuffing my face with gumbo so I didn't have to say anything else for a while. And believe me, I was going to take my time chewing and swallowing.

Both of their jaws dropped. Ma was the first one recompose herself. Her face lit up and I could just imagine all the things that were going to fly out of her mouth. Dad was still in shock, staring at me.

"Ooh baby! We're gonna go out shopping. I should call your aunt-te and nan!" Ma started going on and on about how fun shopping would be.

I could only imagine the worse going out shopping, at least for clothes. Clothes for me, doesn't sound fun being stuck in a stall changing my clothes. And being in long lines to pay for everything. Dad finally got out of his shocked state and I prepared for his turn of verbal reaction.

"Who's the guy?" he asks causing me choke on my gumbo then start coughing. Ma quickly leans forward and reaches around patting my back.

"Dad." I mutter while wiping my mouth but he gives me his "dad" look while raising an eyebrow. "There isn't guy." I groan and my mom looks at me quickly, panic flashing in her eyes.

"It's not...anyone persuading you go to go...is there?" she asked and I caught the hint. She was talking about girls.

"Diara kind of persuaded me with guilt." I replied laughing nervously causing them both to relax but mom was still a bit tensed. "So, homecoming." I said causing mom to lit up again.

"Right, so don't worry! I'll make sure you'll look great." she said smiling at me before finishing her food quickly. "Let me give your aunt-te and nan a call." she practically squealed while getting up with her bowl and left the table, going to the kitchen.

When mom was gone dad looked at me. I rose a eyebrow at him confused before eating more of my gumbo. He was nearly done but it didn't look like he was going to touch his food soon, to finish it.

"Now really, who's the guy? It can't be Caleb or Diara, you always said you would never go to a dance at your school." he explains and I groan. "Is it that new friend of yours? What's their name?"

"Bex, her name is Bex." I answer and he glanced at me.

"Oh, it's a she? Well how come she's getting you to do all these things you've never wanted to do before, yet now you're doing them?" he asked.

"I only did tryouts with her, I'm going to homecoming because of Diara." I say before finishing up my gumbo so I can leave the table and this conversation behind. But he stopped me by talking again and I knew I couldn't leave if he kept talking to me.

"You're not letting others make choices for you, are you?" he asked and I shook my head. "Good, it better not be a boy you're just calling a girl or something." he says narrowing his eyes at me and I nod again before getting up with my bowl then leaving.

I roll my eyes at him once I'm out of his sight. After putting my bowl in the sink I went to the fridge, grabbing a water bottle since its what we usually have. Also it was the quickest drink to get and before dad came into the kitchen, to possibly ask me more questions. I ran out the kitchen, making a turn to the hall before running to my room. I almost made it safely, but ma caught me running and gave me a mouthful the second I stepped into my room.

The next morning I was forced to wake up earlier than I needed or wanted to. By none other than ma. It was like she was a general of soldiers, the way she ordered me to get up. Then brush my teeth and so on. She made me look "presentable" as she would call it with the clothes she forced me to wear. I wore skinny jeans, weren't a fan of them. They practically showed the outline of my body. And the shirt I was wearing was not only frilly but hot pink. Luckily the white and dark blue helped. Lastly my hair she curled a bit and I was wearing white sandals. The one that had a thing between your toe that I couldn't stand.

"You look wonderful honey, I think I have some lip gloss somewhere." ma said looking through her purse while I groaned.

"Please mom, no. I think this is enough. What's the occasion?" I asked and she blinks at me causing me to rise and eyebrow.

"You wore a normal hair tie and not throw one. Go get the bow one that matches." she said completely ignoring me and I grumbled while walking out the bathroom into the room she shared with dad.

I eventually found the bow hair tie she was talking about and switched the hair ties carefully. I knew if I messed up the curls, ma would not be happy. When I entered the bathroom ma gushed when she saw me then hugged me. Instantly when she pulled away, she snapped a picture of me. I yelped a bit and covered my eyes from being blinded by the sudden flash.

"Let's go show your father baby." she hummed and practically pushed me out of the bathroom and their room. Eventually into the hallway and to the kitchen where dad was.

For once dad was cooking. But he usually did cook here and there. Mom just usually did the cooking. He was making oatmeal, bacon, and toast. A lovely combination of I do say so myself. He just needed some eggs to go with it and hopefully we had orange juice.

"Don't slob all over the food mommy#2, the food isn't just for you." he says chuckling and I huff. "So why are you wearing tights?" he asks looking at me with slightly narrowed eyes and glances at ma.

"We're going out shopping with her nan and aunt-te. And honey, they're skinny jeans, not tights." she replies kissing his cheek before stealing a piece of bacon.

He hummed giving her a playful glare. "I see no difference." he says pulling her in causing her to laugh before he pressed his lips against hers. I fake gagged at them while smiling and making a face at them.

"Go get a room." I say groaning when the kissing lasts way too long for my liking and ma finally pulls away from him, but slowly. She raises an eyebrow looking my way.

"We pay the bills, this house is our room." she says as dad chuckles while making a plate before handing it to her. "Thank you honey." she says kissing his cheek again and leaves the kitchen.

"So how are you liking your makeover?" he asks chuckling and I grumble as he makes a plate. "Does a troll live in your throat or can you speak english for me?" he says glancing at me with a smile and I groan while rolling my eyes with a smile of my own.

"I don't like the makeover very much, the shirt would be nice with less pink. Sandals with just my toes out, being free would be nice. The bow hair tie I don't mind much. But I hate the skinny jeans." I answer glaring down at the jeans.

"You and me both sister." he says handing me the plate causing me to roll my eyes again but smile nonetheless.

"Thanks dad." I say kissing the cheek mom didn't kiss and he reaches to ruffle my hair but stops when he remembers the curls. I laugh at him while leaving the kitchen and head to the table.

Peta is already halfway done with his breakfast. And he's also half asleep. He keeps laying his head on the table or in his hand with his eyes closed, before opening them again then eating slowly. Mom was eating in a hurry and I checked my phone to see it was still early in the morning. I don't see what the hurry was but I took a seat and started to eat. Not as fast as her but I quicken my pace a bit. I still took my time though so I could savor the taste.

She finishes her food way before Peta and me. I nudge Peta to wake him up as mom sends me a look before leaving the table and going to the kitchen. The look she gave me was a bit confusing. I would have asked but I decided to just hurry up with eating. That was the best guess I could make is the reason for the look she gave me. And I believe I was correct, because as soon as I stepped into the kitchen she took my dishes and put them in the sink. Then immediately she dragged me to the front door.

"Okay, we're leaving!" she says opening the door.

"Bye you two, love you both. And make sure to be safe!" dad yells the last part she drags me out the house. "Wait!" I hear him yell as we're on the porch and eventually he's in the doorway. "Goodbye kisses honey." he says looking at mom and she rolls her eyes.

"What did I leave?" she asks and he grins holding her car keys in the air in front of him before dropping them in her hand. "Thank you honey, we'll be back." she says pecking his lips and he smiles then kisses my forehead making me groan while smiling.

"See you two." he says and goes inside, closing the door behind him. When he's gone, ma drags me over to her car going on about how excited she is to go shopping with me.
