Secret Magic of the Flowers

Secret Magic of the Flowers

by Bia_2008_ (Sithmi)

Lily was a kind-hearted girl. She was pretty with curly blond hair and azure blue eyes. She lived in a cottage with her father, whom she called Papa.

It was Lily's birthday. She was turning eight. But she didn't have any celebrations. Instead she and her Papa visited her mother's grave.

Lily's mother had died from a tragic accident on the same day Lily had turned one.

Lily couldn't remember her mother very well. But she remembered her sweet voice singing her to sleep

.

West wind blow

Over the meadow

Brings the sweet scent

Of all the bloom

Brings the nice charms

And brings all the joy.

West wind blow

Over the meadow

Brings all your wishes

And carries off your brood

West wind blow

Over the meadow

Brings back your happiness

Carries off your sorrow...

West wind blow...

Every time Lily thought of her mother's singing, her eyes filled with tears.

Lily placed the bouquet of flowers, which she had collected on the way, on her mother's grave.

She sat there with her Papa, enjoying each other's presence. She saw a tear rolling down her Papa's cheek.

Lily wiped it off of her Papa's face and whispered, ''I don't like to see you sad, Papa.''

''And why would that be,'' her Papa whispered back.

Lily thought for a moment and replied, ''It makes me sad too.''

Her Papa smiled. ''You are just like your mother,'' he said and placed a kiss on Lily's forehead.

Lily hugged him and said, ''I love you Papa.''

''I love you too, Lily...''

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was very late when they had come back to their cottage that evening. Lily instantly fell asleep.

She dreamt of a lovely meadow, full of greenery with flowers of every colour.

Lily was there holding hands with her mother. She looked like an older version of Lily, with the same curly blond hair and azure eyes.

They walked around the meadow, hand-in-hand. Her mother sang, exactly like how Lily remembered, sweet and melodious. Lily joined her. It was their song.

But, there was something different about it this time.

As they walked, every flower they passed by seemed to listen to them. The wind blew strong yet calm, and Lilly felt happier than ever.

''Lily, you seem to be holding some sorrow within you, I want to see you happy,'' said her mother in her sweet tone.

''Mama, I miss you so much,'' replied Lily.

Her mother smiled sadly.

''I miss you too, darling, but I know how to cheer you up... Promise me you'll go to the meadow and sing our song, all your wishes will come true,'' continued her mother.

''I will Mama,'' promised Lily.

With that her mother disappeared, leaving Lily to deep sleep.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The next day, Lily got up early and thought about the strange dream she had seen. She remembered every bit of it. It felt real enough.

In the late morning, she went to the meadow with her Papa.

She just walked around while her Papa went to the close by wood to collect some firewood.

She thought about what her mother had said. Suddenly, the wind blew strong but calm, just like in her dream.

Without any hesitation Lily sang her Mama's song. Their song.

The wind blew, bringing the nice scent of flowers and the flowers listened, swinging in the blowing wind.

Lily made a wish, she wished for her Mama to come back.

Then, time slowed down.

A charming gleam emerged from the flowers.

Just within a flash, time reversed until It was Lily's first birthday.

That time, her mother didn't die, as a charm was placed on her, by Lily herself.

Lily grew up, she was happy, Happier than ever.

On her eighth birthday, she and her mother went to the meadow and sang their song, strengthening their special bond.

They remembered every bit of their past. Only them. Their secret.

The secret of the flowers.

''I love you Mama.''

''I love you too, darling, I love you too.''
