Chapter 35

A/N: This point onward, the last arc will not happen has it did in the manga/anime, so don't expect the ending to be the same. It'll be sad. But it'll be happily ever after. Similar to Lucy losing Aquarius sadness. (The only teaser I'm willing to throw at ya hehe)

After Zeref's taunting and Mavis' words, Lucy had came up with a dangerous plan. Gray had infiltrated a dark guild called Avatar. From that infiltration, Lucy realized how much of a treat Zeref had planned. The plan Avatar had wasn't so bad, but Lucy knew better. Zeref is better than this.

They're just pawns. Expendable. And Lucy needs to figure out what Zeref plans to do to them. Have them be exploding soldiers like he did with Hades?

The young stressed blonde stood alone in the large room, overlooking the map on the table. Trying to find a best way to defeat Zeref without anyone dying. But deep inside, she knows that there has to be some casualties, but she dared to try to find a way around that.

"Maybe a night sleep will do you some good."

Lucy perked up at the sound of a familiar voice. She turned around to see Master Makarov standing at the doorway, looking just as tired as she was. "No rest for the wicked, so no rest for me."

Makarov chuckled a little before growing serious. "I need to tell you something."

Sensing the sudden tone in his voice, Lucy leaned against the table and waited for the old man to talk.

"Normally I shouldn't even tell you this. However with everything we had gone through, what you had gone through, I believe it's time to show you."

"Show me?" Lucy asked.

"Makarov and I had a little debate on whether or not we should tell you." Another voice chimed in,

Lucy turned around to see a sneaky little ghost. Her eyes going from the ghost to the old man, easily guessing what they wanted to talk about. Their expression are easy to read."If it's about whatever's beneath the guild, I already know."

"I suppose it's one of the benefits of your growing power." Makarov dryly chuckled, covering his surprised look.

The young blonde nodded and turned to Mavis. "Going to tell me everything this time?"

The young ghost nodded sternly, filled with determination to reveal what was promised.

Lucy sighed and leaned a bit more onto the table. "Alright then. I sense this will be a long discussion. So let's sit and talk. Oh.... wait you can't." Lucy glared at the ghost.

Mavis gave the blonde an emotionless look as she stood still. Makarov's eyes grew large at Lucy's words in ager, but opted to say nothing. He knew full well that her anger was well justified. This was between Lucy and Mavis.

No need to get in between.

Lucy sighed and brought out the amulet that she had received from Zeref and placed it on the table. "This is your chance to tell me about this amulet. You spoke of a dragon slayer. You know who?"

Mavis moved her eyes to the amulet. "A powerful, yet ancient dragon slayer. He's no friend, but he's no foe. Not to you at least."

The young blonde straightened herself and stepped closer to the ghost. "For a very long time, I had played the prophecy game. It's riddles, vague answers and questions. I had enough of it!" Lucy clenched her fists hard that it became white. "I am tired of this shit. So god help me, and tell me exactly what the damn amulet is for. No more games."

Lucy normally doesn't let her emotions pour out like this. But in all honesty, she was slowly breaking. All of these uncertainties, all of the questions left unanswered, and leaving more questions than answers. It was slowly unraveling Lucy to the core. And she had enough.

And Mavis truly understand what was she was going through. No more secrets Mavis though.

"The dragon slayer that was responsible for the disappearance of most Fairy Tail's members for 7 years."

"You mean?..." Makarov's mind went back to that moment when those long black wings covered the sky above him, raining down destruction. "How does he...He's a dragon. How can he be a dragon slayer?"

"Unless he can transform." Lucy guessed.

Mavis nodded. "He started out human, Then became a dragon slayer. And after killing so many dragons, he became a dragon himself."

"Ok, but how does he ties into the prophecy?" Lucy asked.

"That I do not know. But I do know that he has the power to unlock what lies inside that amulet."

"Know what the amulet can do?"

"Your mother mentioned that it was to boost your power. Or maybe..." Mavis mumbled uncertainly.

The young blonde sighed and leaned back against he table in frustration. "Ok. Then with all of the information I've been gathering, they been centered toward our guild. Or more specifically, what's beneath it."

When the two old masters didn't say anything, Lucy started prancing around. "With the intel I've learned, I couldn't stand around and do nothing. I had to check it out. So snuck back to the guild. And searched for what lied beneath the guild."

Lucy grew silent and stared at the ghost.

"And for some reason, I thought Zeref had followed me there because I could sense him. But then I saw your body. You had the same exact powers just like him, Don't you Mavis?"

Mavis stood still, like she was caught trying to steal a cookie from a cookie jar at night.

"Is Zeref going after you?" The young blonde asked.

"Zeref wants my power to end life, because life took everything from him. Last time I spoke to him, he told me, 'If I can't enjoy life, then no one will enjoy it'. Then he met me. And I somehow gained the same powers as him."

"Did he try to kill you?" Makarov asked, growing more concerned.

Mavis dryly chuckled at that. "No. But then after finding out, I realized... that I had the potential to steal magical powers. Or more specifically Zeref's powers if I wanted to. That's my best guess on what Zeref is doing."

"He's trying to steal your powers to become more powerful and take out life?" Lucy concluded.

Mavis nodded.

"Then... I mean no disrespect what so ever, but I'm on my way to destroy your body then."

Lucy started out to the door, but Makarov appeared in front of her with an enraged look. "I will not have you disrespect the dead like that."

The young celestial blonde took a deep breath and stared at the tiny old man. "In any other circumstances, I wouldn't even dream of disturbing the dead. But understand this, if that body was my own Mother, I would still do it. I will do anything to prevent what Zeref plans to do."

"I will not have you do this." Makarov was firmly planted on the floor.

Lucy stared at the little man, realizing that he will do anything to prevent her from leaving this place. "If you have any other great suggestions that is better than mine, I am more than willing to listen. But I am tired of taking chances, and being optimistic that things will go our way."

"Lucy's right."

Makarov turned to Mavis. "You can't... This is wrong."

The large door suddenly slammed opened, followed by two dragon slayers, Rogue and Sting. And it looked like they had something dreadful to share. "Bad news!" Sting panted.

Lucy turned to the dragon slayers. "What happened?"

"Caracolle Island. Demons." Sting panted in between.

"Our members that were infiltrating the Avatar guild had somehow ended there are fighting the demons as we speak." Rogue added.

"We need to go then." Makarov said, eager to protect his dear children.

Lucy paused, wondering why the demons would be attack such a far away place. Not just because Fairy Tail was there. Or maybe it was. She walked back to the table and looked at the map.

Caracolle Island. Of course.

"Mind telling us what's on your mind?" Mavis asked, seeing the hard look the blonde was wearing.

Lucy turned back to the other mages. "It's the only island in the middle of nowhere, between us, and Zeref's main army." Then she focused her gaze on Makarov. "But you already knew that didn't you?"

"I'm lost." Sting admitted, and Rogue sighed exasperatedly.

"And I'm guessing you knew that that island was filled with Zeref's minions."

Makarov paled as realization hit him. "Or... those brats decided mess up their investigation."

Lucy chuckled, not because he was sprouting nonsense. But because he was right. She had been refusing to give Fairy Tail big missions regarding this. She didn't want to risk it. Major mistake. "Damn. Natsu's fault... definitely his fault."

Lucy motioned her hand and a void appeared next to her. "I'll be back. Stay here." Before leaving she turned to Mavis, "We'll continue our conservation at a later time."

Makarov and Mavis tried to say something, but the young celestial mage was long gone.

...

Lucy expected a smooth transportation to where Caracolle Island is, but something disrupted it. Something went terribly wrong because one minute she was on the ground back home, and now she's thousands of feet in the air, free falling.

Free falling would be fun if she wasn't in a serious situation with a certain demon planning on exterminating humans. Lucy tried her void again, but this time she couldn't use it. Something was definitely disrupting her powers.

"Mother Funker."

Lucy took a deep breath before calling one of her spirits that provided her the ability to fly. Thankfully, nothing stopped her from using her celestial powers. She'll have to think back on why she couldn't use void.

Once she was safe on the ground, she noticed battle scars on the ground. Destroyed buildings, unconscious soldiers.

Then she felt a familiar magical surge behind her. She turned to see a hooded figure.

"Got something to report?" Lucy asked, knowing exactly why this person was here.

"Your friends are attacking the palace." The hooded figure said, assuming that Lucy knew what palace she was talking about.

Exasperated, Lucy tried opening her void, but to no luck. "Something disrupting space magic?"

"Marin must still be here. He did seem pretty pissed with the guys. Even have a redhead trapped in his dimension."

"Alright. I'll find him. Now get out of here. Or your cover will be blown."

The hooded figure nodded before turning around. "Till we meet again on the battlefield friend."

Lucy nodded and watched her mysterious hooded friend disappear.  Couple minutes later, it wasn't long till she could pin point Marin. It was abnormally large amount of magic power compared to the place she calls home. Wonder how Zeref managed to get them so beefed up. Steroids perhaps?

Marin was just cruising along the sidewalk, seemingly to try and get things out of his mind.

"You."

Marin stopped and turned around to see an angry blonde behind her.

"Yo, seems like you passed with flying colors by stepping into my sights." Marin grinned.

Lucy only glared in annoyance.

"Marvelous women like you always pass with flying colors. Only disgusting men deserve to be blown to bits." He muttered with distaste at the last sentence.

"Seems like you met one of my friends. A redhead. I would like to have her back."

"Oh that beauty. She's definitely a lovely addition to my collection."

"Bring. Her. Back. Now." She angrily spat.

"You'll see her again, once I add you to my collection."

Lucy gritted her teeth. She knows that this man somehow controls space-like magic. So she needs to avoid using it. Only problem is that majority of her powers of space-centered magic.

"Only question is... Will you pass with flying colors?"

"Now... Shall we start the test?" Marin began and then disappeared from sight. "I'm a space magic specialist. It all bends to my will!"

Marin's words started echoing all around her. His voice was really starting to sicken Lucy.

The young blonde looked down at her fist, where her prized golden ring rested on her finger. She hated using this tactic, but it was her only option left.

"So what's the trick in your sleeve, blondie?" The voice was right behind her, forcing the blonde to jump away from the man.

"It wouldn't be fun if I just told you." Lucy watched Marin disappear again, and she took that opportunity to stealthily remove the ring on her finger and pocket it.

"Sounds like you're close to passing."

Sensing the voice behind her again, she turned around sees Marin being laid back. "You're not taking this seriously aren't you?"

"Why would I?" Marin cocked his head to the side.

Lucy sighed angrily. How did he capture Erza? And how did the other mages escape this dude... And why would they leave her like this? "Like hearing yourself talk?"

"I just like to pass, and help lovely women pass with flying colors. Don't see anything wrong with that."

Lucy dryly chuckled and quickly punched him in the stomach, and brought her other fist to his face as hard as she could.

Marin was sent to the nearest building and violently clashed against it. The blonde cracked her fists and walked toward the man slumped against the building. "Did that hurt?"

"Well... You certainly passed with flying colors. And that felt like space magic." Marin grinned, thinking he had her in his trap.

But before he could do anything, Lucy had her hand wrapped around his neck and held him against the wall off the ground. "Release my friend now." She ordered, tightening her grip around Marin's neck.

"You're quick..."

Another punch was met to Marin's stomach.

"Release her now. I will not ask again." Lucy sent her a death glare and that was the moment Marin started fearing his life. He relented and decided to do what she demanded.

Without another second, Erza appeared not too far away from where they were. Seeing that Erza was back in this world Lucy punch him in the stomach again, making him pass out and dropped him to the floor.

"Sicko."

The blonde muttered before turning around and walking toward her redhead friend.

Erza was still recovering from the creepy room was she was in. She was ever so happy to back where she belongs. As she stood up, she spotted a familiar cute blonde walking towards her. And she did not look happy.

A/N: Geez, overprotective much Lucy?
