4 - House of Horrors

The smell of popcorn and fairy-floss was strong in the air, it almost made me sick to my stomach. Bright colours and flashing lights. Preschool children squealing. "Of all the places you could have taken me," I muttered my eyes scanning the place

"I love amusement parks my mum did too ..." he trailed off.

I got the feeling that his mother wasn't alive anymore but I wasn't going to ask him about it. That could bring up painful memories for him and I know we all have those kinds of memories. If anything happened to my mother... I didn't want to even think about that. I looked at him, he looked sad. "Come on let's go have fun," I said to Flame to try and cheer him up.

He smiled and started walking through the gate. I followed. It had been here just a few days before with my brothers before they had to start school again. It was a fun day and even though we had skipped school, something I had never done in my life it seemed like a fun place to come. But as soon as Flame passed through the gate his smile disappeared. He looked around as if he had lost someone.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"Go home it is not safe here," he suddenly snapped at me.

"What?!" I looked back and forth between him and the fair. He was unrelenting.

"You need to get out of here now it is not safe for mor ...," he got flustered  "you shouldn't be here," He said while pushing me gently out the gate. There was deep concern with his eyes.

"I don't understand, why do I have to leave?" I asked while being pushed.

"Trust me there is something very bad going on here," He replied and saw that he had pushed me out the gate "Go back to your home or somewhere just don't follow me."

He ran back into the amusement park leaving me alone standing at the grand entrance, smiling flowers looked down upon me. Why was it too dangerous for me but not for him? Is he some kind of superhero or something? Well with the strength he has some kind of advantage. And maybe he would be fine...

I turned around to start walking back home but something wouldn't let me. I looked back at that gate with those flowers, the lights flashing around them. My heart rate quickened, I turned around and ran back into the amusement park.

I couldn't explain it, maybe it was fear, panic. But I couldn't stop my legs from running. Maybe it was the thought of Flame in danger maybe I had finally lost my mind. All those years of bullying had finally gotten to me.

There were people everywhere going about their business in a normal way, what had Flame seen in this crowd that had been so alarming? I scanned the crowds for Flame's fiery hair but could find none. I ran further and further into the park: still no Flame. I started to panic and tears formed in my eyes. A whooping sound came over the speakers, over and over again it seemed to drill into my very mind.

Chaos erupted in the crowd and the employees went into action mode, escorting anxious people to the nearest exits. I froze stiff, people were running around me but I was still. My mind, however, was in disarray.  Is Flame ok? How did he know this would happen?

I suddenly I pulled myself out of it. I had to find Flame.

Running around I was screaming out for Flame. There was no reply. Maybe he could even hear me over the alarm but that wasn't going to stop me. I kept running and running until I was out of breath and in a dark corner of the amusement park.

Tears rolled down my cheeks, Where is he?

My lungs were burning and my legs screaming. I lent on something to catch my breath, the soft and stringy texture or it had me jumping away.

The spider webs of a haunted house, just the place I wanted to be right now. I almost laughed despite the tears still streaming down my face.

"No need to cry dear," someone said. I jumped again and looked up. A woman who looked like she had just stepped out of the display of the haunted house smiled at me. Her deep mysterious blue eyes smiled at me in a haunting way but her skin... her skin was a deep green. She had an aura around her of absolute despair.

I was frozen in fear unable to move. Was she working here? She came over and put her hand on my back trying to comfort me but a jolt of electricity shot through my body. The woman gasped "Oh so sorry sometimes I forget."

"Where's Flame?" I asked her trying to hide my fear.

"Flame?" she said to herself, she looked at me again, "who is that?"

All of a sudden there was a rush of burning orange fur that dashed past my line of vision and thundered into the lady. It looked a huge fox, but it was merely a blur of orange fur as it grabbed the lady in huge jaws of gleaming white teeth. Knocking me off balance in the process. I fell to the ground hard and as my vision started to fade I thought... no that's not a fox. That's a wolf
