Sophie felt more secure about the party now that Scurvy had finally arrived. The only reason she agreed to attend this party is that Scurvy had promised to be there. Sophie still felt like a fish out of water but now she had company and that made it bearable.

She was laughing and finally having a good time being with Scurvy, but their good time together was about to come to an end.

"Sophia," Milton's voice came ringing in her ears. He had walked up to her with a look of worry on his face. "Are you alright?"

"Yes, I'm fine, Milton," she said and couldn't understand why he looked so distraught.

He looked down to see the dog that was standing next to her. Scurvy bared his teeth at the young man which made Milton jump back. "That dog is vicious." He grabbed Sophie's hand and tried to drag her away from the odd- looking dog.

Sophie jerked her hand away from him easily annoyed by his behavior. "Milton, Scurvy is my friend."

"Well, I don't think he likes me," he said and kept his distance from the dog.

"He doesn't know you," Sophie said as Scurvy jumped up one of the empty stands that was mostly used for displaying sculptures. He eyes were still fixed on the young man who had moments ago manhandled Sophie. "Scurvy, this is Milton." She tried to introduce them civilly but Scurvy still had a low growl. "Please, be nice... for me."

Fine, but I don't like this idiot, he said staring at him intensely.

"How can you say that?" she asked. "It's not nice to call people names."

"Wait a minute," Milton said with a shocked look on his face. "Are you actually talking to that dog?"

"Why, yes, Scurvy is quite intelligent," Sophie said as she put his hand on the top of Scurvy's head.

More intelligent than him, he said which made Sophie laugh.

"Would you stop saying things like that," Sophie said, but she was laughing at his statement just as Scurvy let out a sneeze.

He wears too much man scent too, Scurvy said and Sophie had to look away before she embarrassed herself any more.

"You're actually talking to that dog, and you're acting like you understand him," Milton said.

"Of course, I understand him," Sophie said, but then Milton grabbed her and pulled her away from Scurvy. He tried to drag her away from him which made Scurvy angry.

"Milton, stop it!" Sophie demanded, trying to free herself.

"You're acting crazy," he said as Sophie struggled to get free.

This was angering Scurvy, and he ran towards him forcing him to let go of Sophie. Milton ran off trying to outrun Scurvy, while Sophie looked on in horror as Milton jumped off the porch railing with Scurvy running after him.

Sophie stood there stunned, but just when she decided to go after them Amelia approached her. "What happened?"

"Milton tried to drag me away, but Scurvy stopped him," Sophie said, looking rather worried.

Amelia was horrified as she gasped. "Don't tell me he...."

"Not yet, but that doesn't mean he won't," Sophie said and walked out the door. "I have to find him before he does something stupid."

Sophie ran off the porch and across the yard. Amelia looked on to see her heading for the stables.

Amelia returned the party acting like everything was normal. She hoped her sister could get the situation under control before anyone suspected that anything strange was going on.

She had the musician play extra loud in hopes of drowning out any noise from the outside. Still she looked back and saw only darkness and heard only silence, but that didn't mean that hell wasn't about to break loose.

In the next scene Milton is going to discover that Scurvy is no ordinary dog. Will it be the last thing he ever learns?
