Chapter 1

"OK girls, time to go to school." called Mrs. Freeman, our orphanage supervisor. It was a cold March day, our first day back to school from winter break. I sat up and began getting ready. I walked outside and got on the bus and sat next to my friend Marcy and in front of us was my friend June. They had been my closest friends since I started going to school with them in 2nd grade.

"Hey Holly! What's up?" asked June as I sat down.

"Not a lot. What about you?"

"I'm really excited because I entered a drawing and won free tickets to go see an advanced screening of Paddington next week! That movie looks really good." responded June.

"That's so cool. I wish I could go." pouted Marcy. I took my phone out of my backpack and checked my Twitter feed. I noticed a new tweet from Lin Manuel Miranda, the creator of one of my favorite musicals, In the Heights. He said that there was going to be a new surprise musical this summer, on July 13th. I wonder what it's about.

When we got to Hamilton Middle School, I walked into my first hour US History class and sat down.

"Hello all of you and welcome back from break. Today, we will be continuing our studies of the Civil War that we began before break..." I  sat there enthralled. US History was one of my favorite classes, and the revolution is by far my favorite era. The day went by quick enough and me and my friends sang Les Mis songs all the way home on the bus. I said goodbye and walked inside the orphanage.

"Hey Holly!" said my roommate Olive as I walked in. "Mrs. Freeman was looking for you. She said someone was here to visit you."

"It's probably Anne from school. She said she might stop by to say hi before she went on vacation." I went downstairs and walked to Mrs. Freeman's office. When I walked in however. There was a couple sitting with their backs to me on a couch. There was another couch across from them. For some reason, the back of the man's head looked familiar, but I couldn't figure out why.

"Ah, Ms. Matthews. Lovely. Have a seat. This is Mr. and Mrs. Miranda, they would like to meet you." Miranda? She couldn't possibly mean... The man turned around and I froze. It was Lin Manuel Miranda.

"Hello Holly. It's nice to meet you. I'm Lin. This is my wife Vanessa." He shook my hand and I sat down on the other couch and they began talking to me. "So, Holly, do you play any instruments?"

"Yeah, I play the violin."

"That's cool. What do you like to do in your free time?"

"I like reading, my favorite author is Rick Riordan, I like to listen to music, my favorite bands are Queen and Matchbox 20. I also really like hanging out with my friends."

"Nice. I like Queen too. I've never listened to Matchbox 20 though. I'll have to listen one of these days.  How long have you been here?"

"6 years. My parents died in a car crash when I was 7."

"I'm sorry. That had to have been hard." said Vanessa.

We talked for hours and they were really nice and we had a lot in common. I did spend most of the time trying not to freak out that I was sitting less that 3 feet from, and talking to one of my broadway idols. When I was about to go to sleep that night, Mrs. Freeman called me to her office again. I wonder what this could be about.

"Mrs. Freeman?" I said as I poked my head inside her office.

"Yes please come in Holly." She never called me Holly. What was going on? "I would like you to know that you will not be in school tomorrow, as you will be packing and moving to a new home."

"Another group home or orphanage?" I asked.

"No, you will be officially adopted by the Miranda family tomorrow at noon. You will be moving in immediately." I was too shocked to speak.

"Did you just say the Miranda family? As in Lin and Vanessa Miranda?"

"Yes. They signed the paperwork when you left earlier. All that's left now is for it to be finalized and then it's official."

I blinked. She was serious. I was being adopted by Lin Manuel Miranda.

A/N:

Yes, I know this is my fourth story i'm working on at once, but this is just the way the writing half of my brain works. I may or may not be publishing 1 (or 2) original works at some point. Thanks.
