"Warm" Welcome

"Wake up Mels," I heard Cole say, "We're here." Picking my book bag off the floor I stepped out of the truck and into the hot summer air. The brown leaves of the fallen leaves laid on the trail leading into the clearing and house.

In the middle of the clearing was a big cabin-like mansion with a lot of glass windows. In between each window was about a foot long piece of wood. The second floor had many windows, but not as many as the first. I think the glass was indestructible, I mean why would a house have a glass when it could easily break?

Walking up the path and to the right, I noticed a pool, half indoor and outdoors. The baby blue color reflected off the glass, causing me to look into the house at a shining chandelier.

The Crystal-like shapes of the glass reflected the sunlight making the room light up in colors. The black leather sofa and loveseat matched the black curtains covering most of the windows. A small glass coffee table with a flower vase on top sat in the middle of the room. Above the chandelier.

Looking around the room I noticed to the far right was a huge tree inside the house, matching the cabin like walls. Moving towards it I realized it was a large canopy tree, the spiral staircase wrapping around the tree leading to the second floor.

Moving up the stairs, I reached my hand out to touch the tree's bark. Its gray smooth texture matches the black theme color of the house. Dragging my hand along the tree as I made my way up the stairs, Cole called out, "I call this room. Yea I know you and dad get the master bedroom like always." He said to our mom.

Arriving at the top of the stairs I saw cole pointing to a door at the end of the hallway. "That one's yours," He said smiling while walking into his new room. Walking past the door to the left, which Cole claimed as his, I realized the master bedroom was across from his on the right.

I guess he only cared about how it looked on the inside, not that he was across from our parent's room, I thought, chuckling. Going to the end of the hallway, I looked at the paint on the walls, its zebra-striped panels matched the white marble floor.

Opening the door of my room, I walked into the wide-open space. The room was made like a log cabin. The floor was black wood panels with streaks or red, with walls matching the streaks of the paneling. There was a loft above the sitting area.

In the lower part, there was a ladder leading to the upper part of the room which had a railing on the edge. Boxes filled with my stuff littered the side of the main room.

In the middle of the room was a big black rug with a red leather sofa on top. The main floor had a black wooden desk on the right side of the room with a matching red leather chair. The wall itself on the left was completely glass, black curtains hung on the side of the wall. Walking to the side of the wall I pulled the curtain closed and went to turn on the light.

Looking above me I notice a pretty chandelier, the glass-like crystal caught my eyes as it began to sway. Looking to the left of the room I saw a door leading into a place under the loft. Going inside the room I saw a beautiful bathroom.

The beautiful marble floor reflected off the walk-in shower, beside it was a huge jacuzzi tub. Marble was everywhere, from the beautiful white flooring and ceiling to the red walls with a white and black accent. The sink on the right side of the room was a big oval shape with a stainless steel faucet.

Walking further in the bathroom I noticed another door that led to the white toilet. Walking back into the main room I decided to climb the stairs. Just like the desk, it was made of black wood.

The railing on the side of the loft was made from the same material as the steps. Walking up the steps I saw a matching chandelier. Located in the middle of the room I noticed a King size bed with black sheets and a red comforter, unlike most beds that were rectangular this one was a circular shape, like a mermaid shell.

On each side of the bed was a window with black curtains and a matching set of nightstands made of black wood. On the right side was a small vase with dirt, I wonder what plant is gonna grow, I thought to myself.

Walking to the side of the loft I noticed a huge walk in the closet. Racks covered one side, while rails covered the other, large shelves were at the top. Walking back out of the closet I went to go bring the boxes up the ladder to unpack.

Using my vampire speed, unpacking didn't take long. Hearing a knock on my door I said, "Come in." as I finished putting a pair of boots on the rack. "Nice room Mel, I love it, I shoulda claimed this room instead." He said with a chuckle. Laughing with him I asked him how unpacking was going.

"I just finished actually. I was wondering if you wanna spar with me and then go hunting?" Sparring and hunting was my favorite thing to do besides flying with my brother. "Oouu ok bet," I said with a devilish smile. Walking down the stairs into the living room, with my brother in tow,  we headed out into a small clearing near the house in the woods.

After taking my shirt off and tossing it to the side, I noticed Cole did the same thing. While I was wearing a black sports bra and a matching pair of leggings, he was wearing shorts with his hair in his eyes. I decided to put my midnight black hair into a tight ponytail so it won't get in the way of my movement.

"Would you like a hair tie?" I said to Cole laughing. Nodding his head, I went over to him and handed him the last one on my wrist. Walking back to where I was standing I turned around and saw the familiar gray eyes of my brother, no longer with his hair covering them. With a small pigtail at the top, he got into his fighting stance.

He reminded me of a scared cat, its eyes wild and fur sticking up. "No matter- how- many- time- I -I saw- your- small pigtail- I can't- stop- laughing," I said laughing and holding my side.

Something hard hit me causing my body to slam into the tree behind me. I could feel the bark break and a loud thump was heard beside me. Looking up to where I was standing before, was my brother smiling. "You didn't even say start, you cheater," I said with a glare.

"Enemies won't say start now will they?"  He said. Standing up and ripping a branch of the fallen tree I threw it at him and grabbed another. Dodging the first one he ran up to me and tried to punch me in the jaw.

Moving my head to the side just enough to avoid him, I pulled the branch from behind me and hit him full force like he was a baseball. His body flew and as it slammed into a tree, his body disappeared into the shadow.

"Bruh. Really? Shadow powers? You're annoying." I said while looking around mindlessly. "So not-" A sharp punch to my stomach stopped me from finishing my sentence. Swinging my arm around, his head bobbed as he ducked down, grabbing my leg he pulled me off my feet and threw me again.

Landing on my feet I ran towards him, at the last second, I slid under him and kicked him in the back. Landing on his stomach, he let out a loud grunt. "Not cool Mel, so not cool."

Grabbing his arm I pulled back trying to get him to tap out. Rolling underneath and out of my grasp, he grabbed my hair and punched me dead in the face. The pain was nothing compared to what I would do to him.

Grabbing his hand I twisted it and pulled it behind him. Twisting out my grasp he stood straight in front of me. I grasped his head and slammed it into a tree trunk, causing the wood to shatter to pieces. "Damn you have a hard head," I said laughing, looking down at him I noticed that I knocked him out cold.

A little bit of black blood came out of a scratch on his head. Three points for me. We always have a point system for our spars, a knockout is two points and a blood wound is one point.

That's what he gets for punching me in the face. Hair spilled down as I took the rubber band off. Deciding not to put it back up, I let my wavy curls bounce as I made my way into the forest. Cole's version of hunting is very different from the regular version. Instead of hunting for an animal or human, Cole goes to town and has a small feast.

It's a tradition that we do after moving. I always go with him to make sure nothing happens, but mostly cause I just like being around him.

As I walked into the woods I could hear and smell a herd of elk not far from where I'm at.

Walking silently towards the herd I stopped behind a big oak tree a little way from them. After looking around a bit I found the perfect elk to drink. Crouching down low I crept up behind the herd and hid behind a bush.

Throwing a rock on the other side to get the herd's attention, I jumped onto my chosen meal. My fangs slid out as I clamped my mouth onto their neck, my teeth driving into their flesh and fur.  Blood oozed into my mouth as I felt the familiar warmth of the vein. I could feel the life of the elk below me drain out as I feed off it.

The herd ran deeper in the woods, not yet full, I rushed after them hoping to get another elk. Jumping onto an elk that was further behind than the others, I dug my fangs in deeper than before.

Blood rushed into my mouth as its body heat started to fade. Blood splattered onto me from the messy kill. My black hair had tips of red blood, while blood dripped from my chin. A loud howl was heard in the woods as I licked my lip.

No really caring I ran after the herd of elk one more time just for fun. As I caught up to them I could hear the howl getting closer. Still not caring I pounced on the biggest elk I could find. My fangs pierced its skin as it withered around under my grip. Not letting up I dug my fangs deeper into the elk until it stopped moving.

Hearing a tree branch snap, I looked up quickly to find a lone wolf. Not paying attention to it, I turned back down to finish my meal. Feeling a sharp bite to my back, I spun around and kicked the thing that bit me into a tree.

A long crack traveled down the tree trunk from the impact. The mutt looked at me, as our eyes connected there was only one thing I knew for certain. My mate was a werewolf, and not just a regular wolf, an Alpha Werewolf.
