Chapter 7: Spaceship ride
"So this would be the front door, and this would be the back." Megan said, pointing to two opposite sides of the cave.
"The cave is actually the whole mountain. It was hollowed out and reinforced by Superman and Green Lantern in the early days of the League." Wally explained, trying to impress M'gann.
"Then why abandon it?" Superboy asks confusedly.
"The caves secret location was compromised," Aqualad told us.
"So they traded it in for a tourist trap?" Robin said sarcastically. "Makes sense."
"If the villains know about the cave, we must be on constant alert." M'gann says, straightening up.
"The villains know we know, that they know about the cave, so they wouldn't think to look here." Robin tried to explain, but I think it came out wrong, leaving us kinda confused.
"What he means is," Wally cuts in, "we're hiding in plain sight."
M'gann nods with a look of realization. "Ah, that makes sense."
Suddenly, Superboy perks up, sniffing the air. "I smell smoke." He said shortly, and M'gann gasped.
"My cookies!" She shouts, and flies off quickly, towards the kitchen, us following. She flew to the oven, opening it and letting out the remaining smoke. She pulls out a tray, with small blackened circles, the remnants of M'gann's cookies, on it.
She places it on the island/counter thing, and sighs sadly. "I was trying out Grammy Jones' recipe from episode 17 of-" She stops talking.
"Heh, never mind."
"I bet they would have tasted great," Robin said kindly. "He doesn't seem to mind."
Wally was quickly going through the blackened cookies, shoving three into his mouth at a time.
"What? I have a serious metabolism." He says defensively, with cookies still in his mouth, chocolate chips spraying everywhere when he talked.
I walked over, and took a cookie, biting into it. If you looked past the burnt taste, it was actually really good. Robin and Aqualad looked at me skeptically, almost asking what is this weirdo doing? While Superboy seemed uninterested, staring boredom into space, while M'gann stared at me expectantly, waiting for my opinion.
"If you didn't burn them, they would have been really good. And besides, they're ten times better than when Hal tries to cook."
M'gann nods, unsure if that was a compliment or not. "I'll make more?" She asks hesitantly.
"It was sweet of you to make any." Aqualad assures her, smiling kindly at her.
"Thank you Aqualad," She said, still smiling.
"We're off duty, you can call me Kaldur'ahm." He told both her, and us. "Actually, my friends call me Kaldur."
"Wally." KF announces, smirking. "See? I already trust you with my secret I.D., unlike Mr. Dark Glasses over here." He features to Robin, who only glares.
"Batman's forbidden Boy Wonder over here from telling anyone his real name."
"As you guys already know, I'm Alya, Alya Vivani." I wave sarcastically, jumping onto the island, sitting on it. "See? I could be James Bond."
"Well, my name's no secret. It's M'gann M'orzz. But you can call me Megan, because it's an Earth name, and I'm on Earth now."She bounces off the floor, flying.
I saw Superboy lower his head out of the corner of my eye, clearly sad about not having a real name. I feel really bad, knowing what being like an outcast feels like.
Suddenly, Superboy shouts in anger. "Get out of my head!" He screams, in Megan's direction.
Megan knits her eyebrows in confusion. I felt a poke inside my head, like someone was trying to look through my thoughts. Then, I got an excruciating headache, and heard a voice, M'gann's, in my head. 'What's wrong? I don't understand. Everyone on Mars communicates telepathically.' I put my hands on my head, trying to get the pain out.
"M'gann, stop. Things are different on Earth. Here, your powers are considered an extreme invasion of privacy." Aqualad tried to explain to her, through his own pain.
"Plus, Cadmus' creepy little physic gnomes left a bad taste in his brain." Wally comments, putting his hand to one side of his mouth, and what he said was, as always, completely irrelevant.
"I-I didn't mean-" she tries to apologize, but Superboy angrily cuts her off.
"Just stay out!" He huffs, and skulks off into the corner.
M'gann deflates slightly, but perks up when she has an idea.
"Hello Megan!I know what we can do!"
She flies off again, leaving us no choice but to follow.
She brought us to the hangar, where planes, and apparently spaceships, land. She flew over to an ostrich-sized red egg, and started petting it, the egg pulsing with blue light at her touch.
"This is my Martian Bio-ship." She said proudly.
"Cute," Wally said in a condescending tone. "Not aerodynamic, but cute."
I flicked the back of his head, annoyed that a person could be so ignorant.
M'gann was proud of this, so we should be more respectful, and not hurt her feelings.
"It's resting, silly. I'll wake it." Megan says, giggling. Her eyes glow green, and the egg-like thing expands, becoming a huge spaceship.
"Woah," I mumble, touching the side. "That's awesome." The ship seems to respond to my touch, releasing a short pulse of energy.
"She likes you," Megan grins at me.
"She's not the only one," Wally speeds behind me, whispering into my ear, while putting his arms around my waist. I shove his arms off me, while Robin laughs, being used to KF's flirting ways.
"Well, are you coming? Strap in for launch." She orders, hopping into the ship doors.
We board the bioship, and Megan sits in the pilot chair, with two glowing white circles on either side of her, to steer probably.
"Red Tornado, open the bay doors please," She instructs, talking on the intercom system, as we hovered off of the ground. The minute we sat down into chairs, seatbelts had magically appeared, forming an x over our bodies.
"Incredible," Robin murmured to himself, examining the walls of the ship.
"She sure is," Wally sighed dreamily, staring at M'gann. He realized what he said, and immediately tried to get out of it. "The ship, like all ships, is a She."
"Fast with his feet, not so much with his mouth," Robin turns to me, smirking. I snort, covering my mouth when it happened, my eyes widening.
Wally and Robin burst out laughing, almost falling out of their chairs, holding onto each other for support.
I glare slightly at them, and turn away, towards Aqualad, who was watching the whole interaction with a small smile.
We locked eyes, and I felt my cheeks heat up. He smirked, clearly noticing my cheeks, which were as red as Wally's hair at that point.
"I thought it was cute," Kaldur said, which only made my blush worse. I covered my face with my hands, hoping I would be sucked into a hole, where I could die of embarrassment.
I looked around the bioship more, and my eyes landed on M'gann, who looked quite sad. I had an idea what that was about: Superboy shouting at her. She must feel bad that she invaded our minds, not knowing what was wrong. I didn't blame her, that's what she grew up learning.
I stood up, the seatbelt retracting automatically, and walked over to M'gann, leaning on the side of her chair. "He'll come around," I assured her, patting her arm.
"I hope so. I really didn't mean to do that. It was an accident." She rushes out.
"I know. I think that he just doesn't trust us yet. But he will, eventually. We just have to give him something to trust."
"Hey," Wally calls to Megan, cutting off our conversation. "Why don't you show us a little Martian shape-shifting?"
She eagerly nods, standing up from her pilot seat, and putting the ship on autopilot. I hope.
She stops in front of KF and Robin, and suddenly she doesn't look like Megan anymore. She looks like a female version of Robin, clothes and all.
"Woah," We mumble, amazed. She then changes into a female version of Wally, who gets up to inspect his female form.
"Is it weird that I think I'm hot?" He asks us, and we just ignore him.
"Impressive. But, you know, you're not gonna fool anyone with those disguises," Robin told her. She nods sheepishly.
"Yes, I know. Mimicking boys is a lot harder."
She turns to me, and changes into me. A carbon copy. We look exactly alike, down to the last hair. I slowly circle around her (me?).
"No Wally, it's not weird. I think I'm hot too." I call to him jokingly, laughing with Robin and Aqualad.
"For the record, I think you're hot as well," Wally shouts back, smiling brightly at me. I laugh, taking it as a joke.
"But seriously, damn! That's what I look like from behind. Those squats Hal made me do really worked out for me."
I stopped for a second, thinking. "Can I see what I look like with my suit on?" I asked her, eyebrows furrowing. I've always wanted to see if I look heroic when I have my suit on, like Hal or Superman.
Superman has always been my favorite Leaguer, besides Hal of course.
He constantly supported me, helping me with my powers, and even letting me meet Louis. Yes, I found out his identity. Come on people, all he wears are glasses. See through glasses.
She nods, pulling me out from my thoughts. "Yes, but you're gonna have to change into your suit, because I can only copy what's in front of me."
"Okay." I say, and begin to recite the words I have to say every time I change into my suit.
"In fearful day,
In raging night,
With strong hearts full,
Our souls ignite.
When all seems lost
In the war of light,
Look to the skies-
For Hope burns bright!"
With the last sentence, I throw my right hand, the hand with the ring on it, into the air, my suit emerging in blue energy, engulfing my body and changing my clothes. My mask came on, too.
Everybody stared at me in awe. "That was so cool," Wally whisper-shouts, like an eight year old.
"I know, Lantern's are the coolest beings in the universe," I said cockily, walking forward and tripping over Wally's shoes, that he just had to take off. I sprawled out on the floor, on my face. Smooth.
"Sure." Robin said sarcastically, as he stands above me, cackling his signature laugh.
"Shut up," I grumble, getting up off of the floor, and sitting back into my chair, like the dignified person I was. Not.
M'gann changes into my suit, and we're back to looking like extremely identical twins. "Wow," I whisper. "You can fill in for me, when I don't want to go to school."
We all laugh, and I think that that was the first time we actually bonded. As a team. I guess Red Tornado was right.
