Chapter 36 - Junior time

The alarm clock has a spasm at 8:20. We all groan. Even though we don't have to wake up early anymore, it still sucks to wake up. We all slowly hop out of bed and walk towards the bathroom as if we're zombies.

We all get ready and dressed, me specifically in a grey tank top and beige riding pants. Abby gets dressed in a pair of grey riding pants and a red tee, while Scarlett puts on a yellow tee with beige pants.

"Ugh I'm so tired!" Scarlett groans.

I let out a little laugh. "Same."

"I'm exhausted and I don't even know why!" Abby says a little annoyed.

We all let out a laugh. Then we head to the stables. We quickly tack up and then go to enter the arena. Scarlett is in front of me and Abby is behind me.

Scarlett mount up and I do to, and soon we are all on our Horses. We start by just walking around. I notice somebody who looks like a very good rider.

"Who is she?" I whisper to Abby and Scarlett.

I point to the dark haired girl with her light bay horse. Abby and Scarlett lock eyes in her.

"Oh that's Carmen." Abby says.

"She's Sherri's daughter." Scarlett explains.

Is she a barn brat?" I ask quietly.

"No, well...um..." Scarlett stutters. "She keeps to herself."

"What do you mean?" I ask confused.

"She doesn't talk to anyone and she stays with her mom." Abby whispers.

"Oh." I say. "Why?"

"I heard that Victoria and her friends were her friend once." Abby says sadly. "They were just her friend to get insites on everything going on. Then they started being mean to her."

"Yeah it was really sad." Scarlett says with sadness in her voice.

"Oh." I say. "That is sad. I'm going to talk to her afterward."

"Okay I'll talk to her too." Scarlett says.

"Same." Abby says.

Just then Derek walks into the lesson. "Trot." He says.

I get Dreamer to do a good trot and I look over to see Carmen. She gets her horse to listen so well, it's amazing. Soon we're cantering, and then doing lead changes. Dreamer listens so well and I give him a pat.

After a while of cantering, Derek makes us trot. Dreamer listens in a blink of an eye. He's such a good boy. Just then Derek tells us to drop our stirrups. I drop them and forget that Dreamer hasn't done this before. He raises his head alert because of the stirrups lightly hitting his sides.

"Good boy." I tell him and he relaxes.

No stirrups is barely a problem for me, even though I've done it before, it's still difficult.
We trot on for a little while longer before Derek tells us to walk.

"alright!" He says clasping his hands together. "You are now going to do a very small course."

He starts to explain the course. He tells us that we're going to start in the far corner and go down the line before turning and then going up a second line. The jumps are around 2.5 ft, some look higher though, but for some reason looking at the jumps doesn't make me nervous.

I've jumped 4ft already so this seams like nothing. The only part I'm worried about is that it's a course.

"Calli, your up first." Derek day as looking at me.

I nod and ask Dreamer to canter. He does, and he picks up the right lead too. We canter along the fence until I turn him to go over the jump. He jumps the first one beautifully, but then when he realizes we're doing a second one he raises his head and slows down. I give him a squeeze and he goes back to his calm self. We jump this one nicely too.

I turn him to go up the next jump and I can feel him slow down again, so I give him another squeeze. He jumps this one pretty nicely too and for the next one he doesn't seem scared at all. He jumps it beautifully and I get him to slow down to a walk behind the other riders.

I see that's Carmen is looking at me. She has a blank look on her face. I smile at her and she glares and turns away. My smile drops. Weird.

"Well done Calli!" Derek says. "Carmen next."

I watch as her and her horse tart to fly over the jumps, they do it gracefully and it looks like it took them no effort. They make it over the last jump and then the bay slows down to a walk.

Soon the lesson is over, and we're all mounting off of our horses. After Carmen had jumped, everyone else got a lot more turns to go and I guess that's because there were only about ten of us.

I walked Dreamer out of the arena and gave him a pat. I walk him to his stall before quickly talking off his tack and putting him in the stall. I look around and find Carmen a couple stalls down from us and head off in her direction.

I reach her and she's putting her horse away. She closes the door and looks up at me. She puts a hand on her hip.

"Hey!" I say smiling.

She looks me up and down. "What do you want?" She says annoyed.

My smile drops. "I just wanted to say hello since I've never seen you before."

"I know what you really wanted." She says and I look at her confused. "You wanted insites on what's happening around here. Well trust me I'm not telling."

She starts to storm off but I grab her wrist. "Wait-"

She swiftly moves her wrist away. "Leave me alone!" She starts walking away again.

"I just wanted to be your friend..." I whisper under my breath, so quiet because I don't want her to here me.

She freezes and turns around. "Why would you want to do that?"

My eyes widen at the fact that she heard me. "You look like you could need one." I say quietly.

Just then Abby and Scarlett come up behind me "or a few." Abby says smiling.

Scarlett, the happy person she is, goes over and hugs Carmen. She pulls away. "Hi, I'm Scarlett!"

Carmen looks surprised with our friendliness. "Are you...are you anything like Victoria?"

I can't help but let out a laugh. "Definitely not. I hate her." I say.

Abby chuckles with me. "We couldn't even act like her if we tried."

"I can." Scarlett puts on a scary looking smirk and starts walking funny. "Hi I'm Victoria and I like to be an inconsiderate jerk!"

All four of us start laughing. Then Carmen looks at us seriously. "You guys aren't just trying to get in sites?"

"Heck no."

"Definitely not."

"Nope."

"Oh..." Carmen says surprised. "That's nice."

"Do want to go on a Hack sometime?" Scarlett says excitedly.

Carmen shrugs. "Why not?"

Scarlett squeals. "Yes! Another person in the 'Victoria sucks' group!"

"Ok, we'll see you later." I say and we start to walk away.

"Wait-" we all turn to see Carmen walking after us. "Would you maybe show me where your dorm is?"

"Of course!" Abby says and we all walk together to the dorm.

We laugh along the way, because Scarlett starts to make funny impressions of Victoria. Soon we're at the dorm and I unlock is. I step in first and look back to tell Carmen to follow, but all three of them are frozen like stone. Worry is sewn on there faces. I look to our room to find what there looking at.

Holy cow...
