Chapter 27 - Being a beginner

I wake up to the sound of my alarm clock and groan. I don't want to wake up! Its to early... I slowly hop out of bed anyways and walk to the front of my dresser. I take out a red t-shirt and my riding pant and put them on.

I quickly get ready in the bathroom. I brush through my hair and brush my teeth. Then I quickly put my hair in a braid and put on some mascara. When I'm done I walk out the door and towards the stables. I walk up to Dreamers stalls and he lets out a little neigh.

I giggle to myself and open up the door. I rub  him on the nose before I grab his tack. I walk to the building and unlock my locker.I grab the tack, before returning to the stable. I hang up the tack and take up Dreamer.

I quickly brush him down and tack him up. He doesn't mind tack at all anymore, in fact, he acts like he doesn't even notice it. When I'm done doing up the girth, I see Kris, who I haven't seen in a while, walk up to me.

"Are you a beginner now?" She asks.

"You bet!" I reply, smiling.

"Oh that's great!" She says excitedly. "Maybe you'll put Victoria in her place."

I look at her confused. "What do you mean?"

"Oh, it's just when's someone's doing well she goes it of her way to make people screw up." Kris sighs. "She only just joined yesterday, and Derek hasn't been happy with anyone's performance."

"Oh that's so frustrating." I say angrily. "That means that no one will have a shot at becoming a junior!"

"That's exactly it!" Kris says, raising her arms in the air. "Dereks only complementing her!"

"Oh that really makes me mad." I say gritting my teeth. "I'll teach her a lesson in the arena."

"Oh thank god. I'll try to help you out in anyway I can." Kris says.

"Thanks." I reply. "Anyways we should probably go now."

"Yeah for sure." Kris agrees.

Kris and I walk towards the arena with our horses. We wait our turn to use the mounting block to mount. Kris mounts before me and then it's my turn. I hop up a Dreamer doesn't mind at all.

I get him to walk and he listens. Everyone is walking around the arena, but some people are still joining the lesson. I spot Victoria enter the arena and she spots me too. She shoots me a glare and I glare at her back. She's definitely going to get her "revenge" today.

She breaks eye contact first when she gets to hop on her horse. She mounts and walks on. My eyes trail along to the gate, which is opening. Derek steps through and is carrying a poll. Just then do I notice the stacks of polls in the middle of the arena.

He walks over to the middle and starts setting up jumps. He sets up three verticals. One small on in the middle of the arena on and angle, and then next to it, two higher verticals on the straight. The one on the left look about 2.2ft and the one on the left is probably just reaching two ft.

I tense up a bit, realizing that these jumps are high for me and Dreamer. I have jumped way higher before, but doing it on Dreamer makes me a little nervous. Then I remember how me and Dreamer jumped over a stream, and my nerves calm a bit.

Derek asks us to do a posting trot, and every one gets there horse to listen. Wow it's going to be a little bit hard to become a junior. You know what though? I'm up for the challenge.

I smile to myself as we do a beautiful trot. I get Dreamer to go at a perfect pace and we trot along staying at that speed. Other riders have there horses listening to, but some of the riders positions are a little off. Some of them could have there heels down more, or longer stirrup length. It's not that big of a deal, but being a beginner now, every little bit matters.

We're asked to Canter, and Dreamer does an amazingly transition. Soon we're switching leads, which only a couple students have trouble with, but barely any. I notice Victoria clearly turning to almost run into a rider. This causes the horse to spook. Derek yells at the girl who's horse spooked and not at Victoria. I grit my teeth and look around the arena. Me an Kris lock eyes and I know we're thinking the same thing. Victoria strikes again. She's such a jerk.

Soon we're asked to walk, and then we start taking turns going over the jump. Derek asks me to walk over to him.

"If you need to do something smaller just tell me." He says, And I nod my head.

I walk around the arena until it's my turn to canter over the jump, just like the last time I jumped. We canter, and I steer Dreamer towards the jump. He lifts his head up a little bit, but other then that he doesn't show fear of the jump. We jump it gracefully and land. When we do though, Victoria steers her horse pretending to pass another horse, but actually cutting me off.

"It's your job to stay away from other riders!" Derek says.

This results in a smirk from Victoria, but I just glare at her. I make a plan in my head. I slowly start passing people until I'm right behind Victoria. This took a couple of jumping rounds,
But it will be worth it. Now we've moved on to the highest jump, and Dreamer is jumping it nicely still. He isn't showing any fear.

I wait until it's Victoria's turn to jump before I disrupt her. She starts to canter towards the jump, and I get Dreamer to canter shortly after. I purposely get him to Canter a little to close to the horse. Not close enough that Dreamer could get bucked I the face, but close enough. This causes her horse to spook, just like I planned. Instead of her jumping, the horse turns away and gives a little buck. Victoria was very clearly not ready for that, even though her horse gave some clear sighs it didn't plan on jumping. Victoria falls off to the side away from the jump, so I jump the jump anyway.

Derek grabs Victoria's arm and pulls her up. "Why did you not put your leg on!" He yells. "You could tell the horse wasn't going to jump!"

Victoria looks afraid for a second but then her face is taken up by anger. She turns around and points at me.

"YOU PURPOSELY GOT TO CLOSE!" She yells at me.

I give her a confused look. "What do you mean?"

"YOUR DAMN JORSE WAS TO CLOSE TO ME!" She yells again, and almost looks like a tomato with how red her face is.

"I admit I was a little to close, Dreamer sped up a bit, but I didn't think it was close enough to cause your horse to spook." I say pretending to say it apologetically.

I'm pretty sure I see steam come out of her nose. "LIAR!"

Derek grabs her shoulder. "Do not talk to other students like that!"

Victoria looks stunned at what Derek just said. "But she-"

"Go walk your horse out in another arena."
Derek says frustrated. Victoria looks at him confused for a moment. "Go!" He yells, pointing to the gate.

Victoria walks towards the gate, grabbing her horse who stopped after she fell off. She leaves the arena an I loom towards Kris.

I'm grinning and she's grinning too.
