Chapter 2
I do not own Naruto
................................................
I panted heavily, flopping onto the ground with my eyes shutting as to help me concentrate on my breathing and the pinching I felt in my chest. Shards of colorful crystal littered the ground softly disappearing as the chakra started to evaporate. My nose crinkled as I tried to take in deeper gasps of air for a couple of moments, just trying to regulate my breathing.
Slowly I opened my eyes and blinked tiredly at the star filled sky. My bangs clung to my forehead from the sweat that had gathered during my training.
Being my age and out past midnight training by myself was crazy for most. However, I suppose it doesn't matter for me as there was nobody to scold me for coming home so late. Though if there was, I'm sure my father would have done it hours ago.
Reaching down into my pouch I pulled out my medicine bottle. With the pinching growing stronger, I could feel an attack approaching soon if I don't do something now. It appeared today it wanted to hurt my chest.
Not having any water near me I just dry swallowed the pills and closed my eyes once more. I allowed myself a few moment's rest before I have to pick myself up and carry myself back to my empty house. The thought of going back to an empty home just makes me wish the Third had agreed to my plead.
Then neither Naruto nor I would have to go back to an empty home.
Nevertheless, my request for my best friend to move in with me was denied. His reasoning being that we're two children of opposite genders. Apparently it made better sense to have Naruto move in with Sasuke instead of me, but thankfully he didn't enforce that.
I bet he knows the two of them would kill each other if left alone together that long.
Once my breathing had settled, and I didn't feel like I was about to have a blood coughing attack, I pulled myself up and started making my way back home. I needed to take a shower first before going to bed. Plus I wanted to get a decent amount of sleep tonight. Tomorrow was our graduation exam, and I wanted to make sure I was ready for anything.
I had made Naruto study with me earlier. For the most part I wasn't too concerned for Naruto, he seemed to have most it all down. Well, so long as its not a test revolving around clones he should be fine, for whatever reason he's still struggling with that one.
............................................................................
My dreaming memories of me training with my mother were interrupted by the physical contact of someone poking me. Slowly the memory around me of my mother explaining my chakra type and our secret training faded and I was blinking my eyes open as another poke assaulted my cheek. The grogginess I had instantly disappeared when the realization that I lived alone snapped in me.
Finally able to see clearly I found myself staring right into big blue eyes which blinked at me as I made contact.
"Naruto-kun?" My voice was still a groggy.
"Yeah, Yuki-chan?"
My eye twitched, "Why are you in my house?"
"Oh." He answered, "Well you see, I know you have a habit of being late to school, so I figured today I would run by and get you to make sure you're on time. I didn't have to knock either because your window was left open so I just came in. Now I'm here." My eye twitched more at his explanation. He stood up and started walking out of my room only to pause. "Hey, do you have any ramen? I ran out so I didn't get to have any this morning." He rubbed the back of his head sheepishly.
I've never been a big fan of ramen. However, as my best friend is a huge fan I have a decent stock in my pantry for his needs.
I sat up, rubbing my head as my hair fell into my face. "Yeah, you know where it is. Also, Naruto-kun."
"Mhm?" He smiled at me, blinking innocently.
"Don't break into my house again-" I paused, "Actually, don't break into anyone's house. It's creepy, and gives off the wrong impression."
He laughed in response and ran off towards the kitchen. Clearly that was one of his in one ear and out the other moments. I sighed, shaking my head and getting out of the bed to grab a change of clothes. Next time he does it I'll just steal his ramen to teach him a lesson. I know it'll stick then.
I made a mental note to double check my windows to ensure I had locked them. Though I could have sworn I had locked all of my windows before sleeping.
Naruto had woken me up with enough time for me to be able to take a shower and get dressed, so that was fairly considerate as I know I would have just slept through my alarms. I placed my hair into pigtails, which I was glad I hadn't cut my hair any shorter as it would have a hard time being pulled back. After taking my medication and slipping on my shoes I went towards the kitchen to see Naruto had already inhaled three bowls of instant ramen.
He always worked fast on eating. Upon seeing me he jumped up and rushed towards the door as it was our final day in the academy and we wanted to be early.
"You ready for the exam, Naruto-kun?" I asked as I locked the door.
He flashed his signature grin, "You bet! All that extra studying you made me do helped for sure, dattebayo!" There was a slight twitch in his smile before he shrugged it off. "I know I should be fine so long as it's not the clone jutsu, I'm still struggling with that one."
That was true, but I doubt it would be his luck for our exam to be the clone jutsu. I should try and work with him later on it.
Rather than speak into his concerns I jokingly elbowed him, "Ne, if you're lucky it'll be the sexy jutsu. You'll ace the test then." Instantly his worry melted and he met my comment with a loud laugh.
............................................................................
Making it to class early felt nice. I didn't have to worry about being scolded for sleeping in, which has become a common occurrence for me unfortunately. Though I suppose that was how Naruto and I were able to first bond, as it was after my third detention he finally started talking to me.
Everyone was chatting around the room animatedly. Clearly Naruto and I weren't the only ones excited for the graduation exam that would officially make us ninjas.
Sitting down I paused as I looked in front of me at Shikamaru. There was no doubt, he had to be sleeping. Beside him sat Choji, who always seemed to have chips ready as even now he was munching on the crunchy snack. A frown pulled at my lips as I realized our teacher should be arriving soon.
Leaning over the desk, I poked Shikamaru in the back. My frown deepened when he didn't respond and I poked him again. "Ne, Shikamaru, sensei should be here soon, you may want to get up."
Finally he groaned, his back vibrating from his complaint as I had resorted to softly shaking his back. "I'm up, Yuki." He responded, lifting his head to look at me with half open eyes. "But I'm surprised you weren't late or almost late today."
Rather than show annoyance to his comment, I grinned and nodded in agreement. "Of course, this is our last day in the academy, and all I need to do is pass this exam then I'm finally gonna be a ninja."
"If you pass it." Shikamaru corrected, then shrugged. "Though it's not you that I doubt so much."
Before I could respond, Naruto stood up abruptly and began waving his hand widely. "Sakura-chan!" He grinned, his voice carrying over all the passive conversations throughout the room. I looked over towards her only to frown as she didn't even so much as acknowledge Naruto, which unfortunately was normal. He carried on grinning and sat back down, somehow looking satisfied with whatever he thought he had gotten out of that.
The door slid back open and instantly the chatter died down as Iruka walked in with a clip board in his hand. He looked us all over and smiled, "Hello class, today's the graduation test. We'll be testing you on the clone jutsu."
I felt myself freeze as if ice water had been dropped over my head. Instantly my head jerked to look towards Naruto, who's eyes were wide and he was pulling at his hair. He slammed his head on the desk and groaned in misery earning a few looks from other students.
Apparently Naruto has bad luck.
Iruka didn't pay any attention to Naruto's breakdown, and instead called out the first student. Unfortunately, that happened to be me.
I stood up and paused to look down at Naruto worridly. Rather than let me see his worry, Naruto raised his head and grinned at me, though his grin was strained. "Good luck, Yuki-chan!"
A sympathetic smile crossed my face as I nodded, "Thanks, Naruto-kun. Good luck to you too."
Though he was smiling at me, acting fine now, I knew he was not. Neither was I, as I wasn't sure if he was going to be walking out of the exam with a headband. All I can do for now is take my exam, hopefully pass, and then hope that Naruto passes as well.
.......................................................
It has been a couple of hours since I passed and got my headband. I've been waiting outside the academy, waiting for Naruto to walk out. Either to celebrate with him, or to work on cheering him up. Either way I was waiting for him.
However, almost all of our classmates have already taken their exam, most of them passing and were now outside. Their families had shown up to congratulate them, which was starting to fill up the exit of the academy grounds. The sides were left empty, as no families crowed over here, which left me alone waiting for Naruto.
Sasuke had taken the test after me, it didn't come to a surprise to me that he had passed. Though unlike me he had just left after he got his headband. I didn't blame him, if I wasn't waiting on Naruto I would have left as well.
A frown pulled at my lips as there was a sharp pinch in my stomach that traveled towards my chest. My hand went up and softly thumped my chest, as if I was trying to warn my body to calm down. Instead of listening to my wishes, my lungs squeezed and a cough escaped me. My hand flew to my hand, covering my mouth as warm liquid splattered onto my hand and painted it crimson.
I clenched my teeth and clenched up my hand in annoyance as more pain filled me. Apparently it was time to take some medicine, which was home because I had forgotten it with Naruto showing up abruptly. I wasn't going to be able to stay, even though Naruto needed someone right now.
Swiping my hand along the bottom of my shirt, I wiped the blood off and tried to make my way through the crowd. Thankfully it hadn't been too hard to make it through the families, I guess my coughing had something to do with that.
Just as I barely made it out I had bumped into another person. Stumbling backwards, I threw my hands out to catch myself as I fell to the ground. Looking up, I mumbled an apology, then blinked as I noticed the silver gravity defying hair. Only one feature of his face was uncovered by his mask and headband, said eye blinked down at me in shock as he put the orange jaded book away as he realized I had fallen to the ground.
Where had I seen him before?
I'm assuming he saw some sort of trace of blood dripping from my mouth as he looked down at me in concern. "Are you okay?"
I nodded quickly, stumping up and starting to walk off. "Yeah... Thanks, sorry for bumping into you." I managed to get out without my lungs deciding to squeeze.
I didn't have time to wonder where I had seen that man before. At the moment I was minutes away from a full blown attack, which would not end nicely for me. Due to my own stupidity I had forgotten my medication earlier, and with the attack approaching I needed the medication now. The last thing I wanted was to have to go to the hospital for any reason, which meant I needed to run home now.
Afterwards, I'll make sure to run by Naruto's to check up on him.
