Becoming a Fangirl
Martin lay next to Ben. He'd been their many times before. He lay awake listening to Benedict's breathing. Occasionally, he looked over to check if he was still there. He always was, cheekbones and all.
"Morning." He whispered into Ben's ear.
"Morning John." Benedict croaked back.
Every morning they woke up calling each other something different. They ran out of names quickly as the list of characters they'd played was quite limited.
"I'm going to go and make breakfast." Martin said suddenly.
"What's the time?"
"10:26."
At first, Benedict panicked because he thought they had work. He then realised that they had finished filming the season all together. Their relationship had lasted as longer than the filming did.
"Okay. You might have to go to the shop. We don't have much."
"Okay. I'll be back soon darling."
"Okay."
"Okay."
"Okay."
Martin leaned in and kissed Ben on the lips, "Okay."
He left the flat and walked to the shop whilst Ben slowly woke himself up. Once he has changed, there was a knock at the door. He walked over to the door sleepily and opened it.
"Amanda?"
"Ben..." Amanda replied through tears. She had been crying. Her face was red and puffy.
"What's wrong? Come in!" Benedict sat her down on the sofa and made her some tea.
"It's Martin," Benedict's heart dropped at the mention of his name.
"What happened to him? Is he okay?"
"He's fine. It's just... We've been fighting a lot recently and I just don't think that it's fair for either of us or the kids. I just don't love him the way I used to. He's more like a friend than a husband. I want to get a divorce."
Benedict looked at her, shocked. Divorce?! What had he done? He knew it most likely wasn't his fault but he suddenly felt extremely guilty.
"Can Martin..." Amanda continued, "stay here until we get it sorted out?"
"Of course. But... Divorce?! It's a bit drastic, don't you think?"
"Ben, I've met someone else..."
"I'll just add that to the list of reasons you are getting a divorce. You fight, you prefer him as a friend and you've met someone else. Amanda..."
"Martin would want the same thing." She interrupted.
Benedict suddenly felt sorry for her. He leant towards her and hugged her tightly.
"I'll always be here if you need me." He whispered in her ear. He stroked her short, brown hair and kissed her on the side of her head.
"I better go. I'll... Tell him later. Are you sure you're okay with letting him stay here?"
"Amanda. It's fine. Honestly. As long as this is what you want to do."
They both stood up and began walking towards the door. Benedict, being the gentleman that he was, opened the door for her. She turned around and hugged him.
"He really loves you Ben." She said. That was the last thing that happened before she left the flat quickly. Ben was confused about what had just happened. He leant against the wall and slowly slid down to the wooden floor.
He checked his phone for any messages:
One new message
Amanda:
Can you tell him please? I can't face talking to him. I'm sorry to get you involved but you're his best friend.
Benedict waited until Martin got back to tell him. 'I should never have got involved' he thought to himself.
The seconds felt like minutes and the minutes felt like hours. Suddenly, the door opened.
