Level 8 - First Boss

Now they had almost the full party. Steph, (and Jason,) counted the players in their heads. Melody, the player. Steph. John, the rouge. Nate. Nameless old man, the mage. Jason. David, the basic fighter. Jack. And there was one more left. Alicia, the charisma machine. That had to be Rosanna.

"Where would she be?" Asked Steph.

"Upstairs in the banquet hall. She may not like the fact that the king hoards all his riches, but she sure loves her treats." Jack said.

"Some things never change." Steph chuckled.

"You know Lady Pansino?"

"Um... I've heard of her. Her family is from my kingdom."

"Which kingdom is that?"

".... America."

"I've never heard of that."

"We're kind of off-the map."

Jack shrugged it off as they kept going. They had been ducking guards as best they could, but they knew that their luck was bound to run out. Sure enough, it finally did.

As soon as they made their way out of the twisting dungeons, they found themselves in a grand hallway, lined with red curtains and a silver chandelier. They were immediately spotted by a young woman in a long, dark robe. Her face was obscured by her hood, but they could see a sly smile across her face. They knew her instantly. But in different ways. Jack drew his sword.

"Morgan." He narrowed his eyes. "Come to finish the job?" He asked.

She chuckled. "I was hoping that you wouldn't recognize me." She pulled down her hood to reveal her blue hair. Morgan Want. "But then again, I guess you wouldn't confuse your sister with anyone else."

"Sister?" Steph raised an eyebrow.

"We're twins. Unfortunately." Jack said. Funny, they looked nothing alike, and were clearly different ages, but the game decided that the two of them were twins, so twins they must be.

"Who is this?" Nate asked, drawing his dagger. Clearly, he didn't recognize her either. It was especially ironic for him. He might have laughed to see normally sweet-natured Morgan suddenly evil.

"Why, I am Morgan of Delbreak. The most fearsome sorceress who has ever lived. And the rightful heir to the throne of Delbreak." She narrowed her eyes at Jack.

"You would have gotten it if you hadn't tried to kill our parents!"

"Are you really surprised I tried, brother? I was tired of waiting for them to die, so all I did was try and speed up the process. I was supposed to be queen; our parents knew that I was more powerful."

"Wait, this isn't how politics work-" Jason slapped a hand over Steph's mouth to keep her from getting them in trouble.

"But just because I tried to take what was mine, they banished me. Poor fools couldn't kill their own daughter. So I came here. Showed off my powers to the king; soon became his right-hand-man."

"You caused a war!" Jack shouted.

"It's true that I may have suggested that the King attack Delbreak, but only so that I could take back my kingdom." Morgan gave a little chuckle and a shrug.

"Not if I kill you first." The grip on Jack's sword tightened.

"Just try, dear brother." Morgan raised her arms and started to float. Her eyes clouded over with blackness, turning them into empty voids.

"Corruption! Get down!" Nate shouted.

"Corruption?!" Steph yelled back. Jason pulled her down behind Jack's shield.

"Corruption is like the dark version of what you have. It's evil stuff." Jason explained.

"Then what do we do?" Asked Nate.

"We do what my parents couldn't. We kill her." Jack dropped his shield into Nate's hands, who ducked behind it, in line with Steph and Jason. Jack jumped up his sword drawn to aim for Morgan's head. With a simple flick of her wrist, Jack was flung hard against the wall.

"Jack!" Steph ran out of her hiding place and to Jack's side. He was groaning in pain. "How do I fix this?" Suddenly, just when she needed it, her glow returned. It engulfed Jack on the ground, but when it dispersed, he was still there, just healed.

"Whoa." Steph stumbled back in shock.

"What is this? Innocence? You have the power of Innocence?" They all looked up at Morgan, still floating in the middle of the room. Her cloak was now billowing out on all sides, as a black glow appeared in her hands. "Adorable. Your power is technically equal to mine. But innocence can be turned to corruption, and I control that." Her voice was layered on top of itself, and it sounded echoed and strange.

Morgan telekenetically lifted Steph up by the throat. Floating high in the air, Steph clawed at her neck, loosing air quickly. She came face-to-face with Morgan. "You're a bit stronger than I thought. But any innocence can be corrupted." She looked around and spotted Nate and Jason, still behind the shield. "Watch this." Morgan summoned a sort of black fog in her hands and aimed it at the two men. She shot it from her hand and it hit the shield, destroying it.

"No!" Steph kicked out and managed to nail Morgan in the shin, breaking her concentration and sending Steph falling to the ground.

"Steph, hold on!" Jason channeled his code and summoned one of his powers, slowing Steph's fall and bringing her down safely.

"Alright, now that that's done," Nate pulled out both his daggers. "Let's kill ourselves a witch." Nate jumped up and managed to get around Morgan before she could properly react. He managed to cut her cheek deeply.

Steph suddenly had a strange feeling. She looked up above Morgan's head to see a few flashes of a health bar, and it depleted slightly. It was gone just as fast. They could hurt her.

Morgan started screaming in fury. A black aura surrounded her and spread to the rest of the room, leaving the group blind and unable to see each other, and Morgan.

"Steph!"

"Jason?!"

"Where are you all!?"

"Where's Nate!?"

"I'm right here!"

"WHERE?!"

Morgan laughed in the darkness. "Try fighting now! You'll most likely kill each other before you even get close to me!"

"Think again!" Steph channeled her code again and lit up. They all were able to see her from a mile away. They made a beeline towards her, and once they all reached her, the room lit up again. Morgan gritted her teeth.

"Alright, fine. We'll do this the hard way." This time around, she summoned a fireball and aimed it right at Jack. Jason managed to knock him out of the way, but burned his hand in the process. Steph channeled the glow into her hand and quickly healed Jason's wound.

"Let's try together." Jason said. Steph nodded. Even if this WAS Morgan, she still had to be stopped.

"Alright, you guys come up with a plan, and I'll distract her." Jack whispered. He raised his sword and once again jumped at her to try and swipe at her. He missed almost every time, but little by little, her health bar started going down. He couldn't keep it up forever though.

Nate looked up at the chandelier. "I'm going to need some help." Nate said. "Promise to catch me?"

"We'll try." Jason said. Nate nodded and thrust his daggers into the wall, using them to climb up. Meanwhile, Jason started telekenetically picking up pieces of the broken shield and launching them at Morgan. Most missed, but some hit. It wasn't enough to damage her, but it was a good distraction.

"What should I do?"

"Nothing. Innocence can only heal and protect. It can't hurt. And anyone this powerful can't be engulfed by the light." Jason explained. "But you can help me distract her."

Steph clenched her teeth and grabbed a sharp piece of the broken shield. She held it in her hand, just tightly enough for it not to bleed. "Jason, help me up." He nodded and carefully floated her up behind Morgan, still preoccupied with Jack. She reached out to hit Morgan, when Morgan's cloak wrapped itself around her wrist. Morgan didn't seem to notice that her cape was defending her, so Steph took the sharp piece she was holding and chopped it off, freeing her hand.

And after so much fighting, Morgan finally grunted. The cloak! It was her armor! But now Steph had Morgan's attention. Morgan turned her her, the inky blackness still in her eyes. "You should not have done that." She said flatly. Now face to face with Morgan, Steph was met with a terrifying sight. She held the sharp piece right in front of her with both hands, attempting to aim for Morgan's chest, but her arms wouldn't move. Nothing would. Steph struggled against the spell, maganging to almost touch Morgan's neck, but she came to a full stop.

The darkness in Morgan's eyes was dripping. There was so much corruption that her body wouldn't contain it. So she shed it willingly. They fell from her eyes like tears, onto Steph's hands. The blackness covered her hands in a solid black case. Now it was her turn to be engulfed. It spread across her arms and up to her face, trying to get to her eyes and infect her as well. As it was about to reach her mouth, Steph shouted down to Jason.

"Drop me! Jason, drop me!"

"But I won't be able to catch you-"

"DROP ME!"

Jason dropped Steph, who naturally started to fall towards the ground. Since the sharp piece was placed just above the black tie that held Morgan's cloak closed, Steph was able to use it to her advantage. Even though she couldn't move, her hands were still in the right place, and as she fell, the piece cut through the cloak, removing it and leaving it immobile. Morgan screamed, as Steph, gasping for air on the ground, summoned every last bit of light she had to get rid of the corruption on her. As soon as it touched the darkness, it was gone. Plus, she also healed herself.

"Fine, you got rid of my armor. But you still can't kill me." Morgan huffed.

"We can't, but he can."

Morgan looked up. Nate had managed to get up to the roof. He was sitting on the chandelier. Smiling, he cut one of the ropes and it crashed to the floor, right on top of Morgan.

Nate, now on the ground, was gasping for air, the wind knocked out of him. Steph ran forward and healed him.

"I-" They all looked down to see Morgan right pinned under the chandelier. The blackness drained from her eyes. "Nate? What's going on?" She coughed, her face bloodied from the battle.

"Have we met?"

"Nate, it's me... Morg... Morgan."

"We've never met before."

"We... wait... no...." Morgan trailed off, loosing strength. "I should never... have... played that.... game...." And with that, she ran out of life. They just killed Morgan. And even worse, in her last moments of life, she could remember.
