Level 7
Jason removed a stone from the roof and moved it aside. They climbed up into what appeared to be a dungeon cell. However, a castle guard was standing right in front of them.
"Hey! What are-" He was cut off by a loud thud. He seized up and fell to the ground, unconcious. Behind him was Nate, his hands shackled in front of him and holding a cast-iron pot.
"Nate!" Steph shouted.
"Glad to see you again, kid. And whoever this guy is." He pointed to Jason.
"Hey Nate." Jason gave a small wave.
"Have we met?"
Jason bit his lip. "....No."
"Anyway, can you get us out?" Steph asked.
"Step back." Jason and Steph leaned up against the back of the wall as Nate pummeled the lock with the bot, eventually breaking it off. The door swung open on it's hinges, sending Steph and Jason running out into the corridor. Steph immediately hugged him.
"I'm glad you're okay." Steph said. "Now come on, we're going upstairs."
"To where?" Nate asked.
"The royal sorcerer. He has an office in one of the two towers. The ones high above the rest of the castle." Jason pointed up. "We can find something to help us."
"Wait, the towers? That's where Cristina is."
"See? We can work together. We can head up there together."
"I'm in." Nate said. Jason nodded in response. Determined as ever, the three rounded the corner, bumping right into another man.
"J-Jack!" Steph shouted. Jack covered her mouth tightly to keep her from shouting. He was dressed finely, almost like a prince, right down to the epaulettes.
"You want us to be found? Shh!" He said. He slowly removed his hand from her mouth. "How do you know my real name?"
"What?" Steph whispered.
Jack looked around, nervous, then pulled her to the side. Jason and Nate followed cautiously. "My name is Jack. But I've been going by Sam to hide my identity."
"Why would you need to?" Nate asked.
"...I'm the prince of Delbrek."
"WHAT?!"
"SHH!"
They all shut up.
"Delbreak?" Steph whispered.
"It's a country we're at war with. But why would they send in the prince?" Nate explained.
"It was supposed to be a peaceful matter. I was sent in as a suitor for princess Cristina, but the king preferred the more tyrannical suitor and tried to have me executed. I managed to escape, but I've been ducking guards left and right." Jack explained.
"Have you gotten any help from the inside?" Jason asked.
"Yes. The royal adviser, Lady Pansino." Jack said.
"Wait, as in Rosanna Pansino?" Steph asked.
"Yes, her. She's a trusted ally of the King's, so she has more freedom than anyone else. She's the one hope that we have for a coup. Plus, she's the only one in this stupid castle who's kind enough to say hello to servants."
"Well then, I guess we'll have to talk to her, won't we?" Steph said. "Jack, want to help us save this kingdom?"
"It would be my pleasure." Jack placed his hand on his sheath. He was ready for blood.
