Level 14 - 3rd Boss
Matt took Steph by the hand, guiding her to the throne room. He sat her down at a table near the wall, and sat across from her.
"I can't imagine what it must be like, loosing your brother. I lost my father a while ago." He said.
"Oh, um... I'm very sorry." Steph said.
"Don't be. I had him executed. Treason."
"Oh."
"In the meantime, why don't we get to know each other?" He asked. He rested his chin on his hands; like Monika from DDLC. "Where are your parents?"
"They're... not with us." She said, biting her lip nervously. She looked away, but Matt took a light grip on her chin and slowly pulled her head back to face him.
"Stephanie, you need not be afraid of me."
"I know. That's the problem." She said, under her breath.
"What?"
"Nothing. Nothing important. Just... little thoughts and worries." She started nervously messing with the ends of her hair. "Um... I just can't believe that I'm actually meeting royalty."
"Well, you're not the only one who's had that reaction." Matt have a small laugh. When he opened his eyes, the laughter faded slightly, as he squinted his eyes at Steph. Her eyes went wide, the nervousness welling up inside her.
"You seem... familiar." He said.
"I've been told I have one of those faces." She said. She was getting ready to jump out of her seat, if need be.
Matt noticed it in her legs. He stopped her by grabbing her chin again, this time a bit tighter. "No... not your face. I would recognize a face this beautiful anywhere. But you yourself... something about you feels... familiar."
"I don't know what you're talking about." Steph said. Her hand raised itself, ready to strike with a blast of light. Or at least what she could do with it.
"You just... remind me-" Steph cut him off. The light from her hand grew brighter and bigger, swallowing up herself and Matthew, until they were standing in white void.
There was nothing around but a sort of white, misty substance. Steph traced her hand along it. She was struck with sudden realization of where she was. "I'm IN the innocence."
"Steph?" She turned around. Matt was standing behind her, only looking much more confused.
"Matt?" She saw him. Even though he looked exactly the same as the evil prince, she knew who it was staring back at her.
"Steph!" He ran towards her, wrapping her in the biggest hug he could, before planting a quick kiss on her lips. "You- you're here! Did you get my note?"
"Yes, yes! I didn't listen, but yes!" She was still hugging him. "The innocence. It brought you back. Like Jason, he remembers everything!" She stopped, remembering what happened to him. But she couldn't afford to care at the moment. She just had to get Matt out of there.
"Matt, this power; the innocence. It's what connects our two worlds. I took the place of the player character, Melody. I can figure out how to send everyone back."
"How?"
"I don't know! I've tried everything except...." She gasped, putting a hand to her mouth. Matt knew what she was thinking. He started shaking his head slowly. "Matt, I have to try. It may explain it."
"And what if you don't come back?" He said, placing his hands gently on her cheeks.
"Matthew, I-" Suddenly, he doubled over in pain. "What's wrong?"
"The code... the prince... he's coming... back." Matt managed to spit out a garbled sentence.
"Matt!" She went over to his side, but Matt shoved her away.
"No! Steph, you have to run!"
"Matt, please! Not again!"
"Stephanie..."
"Matthew, don't do this."
"I love you."
A black aura surrounded Matt and expanded over the room, as far as the eye could see. When it finally cleared, Steph was back in the throne room. And on the floor, was a very angry Matthew... prince Matthew.
"Oh, I see how it is." Matt said, drawing his sword. "They sent you in to try and kill me. Well, not today. I can see through you from a mile away."
He rose his blade to her. Steph's hands balled into fists, before resting. She slowly walked up to Matt, with grace and calmness. Matt seemed a bit shocked, but still had his guard up. She raised Matt's arm so that the sword pointed at her chest. "Matthew... I'm sorry. But this is for everyone's sake."
And she plunged the sword into her chest. She took a gasp of air, before falling to the ground, dead. Matt suddenly froze in place, no more than a game model that looked like her husband.
Slowly, the floor fell beneath her. It slowly, gently lowered her into a black abyss, covered in neon green numbers. The code. She was going into the code.
