Game Over
The smoke started to clear as Jason used a towel to clear it out and Chris opened the widows. Matt was coughing.
"Matt?! You okay there!?" Called Jason.
"Yeah, yeah... I'm fine. Where's Steph?" He shouted, fanning smoke out of the air. The T.V was totally destroyed, giving off sparks. Steph was nowhere to be seen. Matt sighed and sat back.
His hand fell onto the couch, landing on something soft. Matt looked over.
Steph. She was unconscious next to him. "Steph!" He shouted. "She's back! Steph, wake up!" Matt started shaking her, and while she did stir, she wasn't really waking up. "Jason, Chris, get some water or something."
Chris nodded and got to it right away. Jason sat beside Steph and propped her up so that she was sitting straighter. She was starting to wake up a bit more.
"Steph, it's me. Wake up. It's Matt. You're out. We're back." He was saying. Her eyes fluttered, before opening.
"Matt?" She mumbled. Her eyes adjusted, seeing his face clearly. "Matt!" Filled with energy, she jumped up and hugged him, kissing his cheek. "You're okay! So it worked!"
"I know. And it's all because of you." She was smiling, but it quickly faded. "Melody."
"What?"
"Melody. I promised her. I promised that she could stay with her dad. And if she stays in that game, not only will I be breaking that promise, but this will keep happening." Steph stood up, before Matt grabbed her shoulder.
"I planned for that." He picked something up off the table. "We made this." Matt said. It was a usb stick. "It's loaded with the code for Melody's house. While we were playing the final boss, the guys also managed to get Melody and her Dad on here."
Steph cautiously took the usb out of his hands and looked at it. "But... what about the Melody in everyone else's games?"
"Fixed as well." Chris said. "I gave a emergency call to the developer of the game. Not only is he recalling the game, but he's deleting the copies too."
"He's killing her?"
"Not quite. He decided to... I dunno, merge them all into one. That way there will only be one Melody, and only one of her father." Chris explained.
"Well, two." Steph said, looking back down at the usb. "If we can load this on a computer, disconnect the internet on it, then we can give them a safe place." Steph sighed and held it close to her chest, holding it safe. "I know that she hurt a lot of people, but... she really is just a scared kid. All she wanted was her dad." She smiled. "Now she can finally have it."
"You have a big heart, Steph." Matt said, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"Thank you, Matt."
"No, thank you, Steph. You saved all of us. Even her."
"Yeah. I guess it's game over, then."
"Game over."
The End
